Sunday Scripture Reflections Reading 1
Habakkuk 1:2-3; 2:2-4
Habakkuk is a prophet of God who lives within a privileged relationship with the Lord and who is entrusted with vision and insight beyond the reach of the rest of us. Yet this prophet wrestles with the same ancient question that plagues so many: Why does evil occur right before God’s eyes? Why does God not prevent or at least erase the evil done? Habakkuk wondered whether God was really in charge. When the Lord responds, it is not with a solution, but a promise. Habakkuk is to record the splendid vision of deliverance and restoration he has seen. God promises the vision will be fulfilled. But it will take faith and patience to reach that day and only the “just”, not the “rash”, will get there.

Habacuc 1:2-3; 2:2-4
Habacuc es un profeta de Dios que vive dentro de una relación privilegiada con el Señor, y a quien se le ha confiado con visión y perspicacia fuera del alcance del resto de nosotros. Pero este profeta lucha con la misma antigua pregunta que atormenta a muchos: ¿Por qué el mal ocurre justo antes de los ojos de Dios? ¿Por qué Dios no prevenir o al menos borrar el mal hecho? Habacuc se preguntaba si Dios realmente estaba a cargo. Cuando el Señor responde, no es una solución, sino una promesa. Habacuc es grabar la espléndida visión de liberación y restauración que ha visto. Dios nos promete la visión será cumplido. Pero va a tener fe y paciencia para llegar a ese día y sólo el "justo", no el "rash", conseguirá allí.
Lectura 2 Timoteo 1:6-8,13-14 Reading 2 Timothy 1:6-8,13-14 Paul encourages Timothy to find again the faith that first flamed within him when he was baptized so he can remember the sweet taste of that for which he may have to endure bitter trials. Paul assures Timothy he will have to bear his “share of hardship for the gospel”. Paul trusts in the goodness of God and reminds Timothy that God has given us his Spirit, who burns within us not with fear but with “power”. That same Spirit endows us with “love” and “self-control” so we can proceed down life’s path with confidence and peace. Now he must “guard” that “rich trust” to ensure it remains pure and true even to our day, as we must guard it for those who follow us.

Luke 17: 5-10
In todays’ Gospel we hear Jesus teach about faith and service to God. There are two related teachings that Jesus offers to his disciples when they cry out for an increase in faith. The first is the reminder that faith, even just a little (“the size of a mustard seed”), will enable the followers of Jesus to do wondrous things. The second teaching is a caution about knowing one’s place in God’s plans. The disciples of Jesus are to understand themselves as servants to God and his plans. Jesus illustrates the concrete form faith takes and that form is service. He presents a master who expects servants to do their work without having to thank them for simply doing their duty. Faith changes us into servants who do what is necessary—love, give witness, repent, forgive—no matter how hard the task. And they do it expecting nothing in return. Discipleship is its own reward.

Evangelio Lucas 17: 5-10 En el evangelio de hoy escuchamos a Jesús enseña acerca de la fe y el servicio a Dios. Hay dos enseñanzas que Jesús ofrece a sus discípulos cuando ellos claman por un aumento en la fe. El primero es el recordatorio de que la fe, aunque sólo sea un poco ("del tamaño de una semilla de mostaza"), permitirá a los seguidores de Jesús a hacer cosas maravillosas. La segunda enseñanza es una precaución sobre el conocimiento del lugar en los planes de Dios. Los discípulos de Jesús se entienden a sí mismos como siervos de Dios y sus planes.
