With deep appreciation for a lifetime of leadership, generosity and friendship.

Bill deeply cherished his memories of St. Francis Prep. His devotion was evident through his active participation in numerous alumni events and his family’s extraordinary generosity to the school. A proud SFP Hall of Famer, Bill and his wonderful wife, Aimee, furthered his legacy in 2025 by establishing The William D. Maroney ’55 and Family Performing Arts Center at SFP.
During his time at St. Francis Prep’s Brooklyn campus, Bill excelled both in the classroom and on the track, earning various medals in track and field. His academic achievements led to a scholarship to St. Francis College, where he graduated with a BA in Literature in 1959 and was a distinguished member of the Duns Scotus Honor Society. Throughout his life, Bill remained a steadfast benefactor to many institutions, always holding his beloved St. Francis Prep close to his heart.

For more than five decades, Peter J. Callahan ’59 was a devotedfriend and extraordinarily generous benefactor of St. Francis Prep. Peter graciously welcomed fellow alumni into his home in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and in later years hosted memorable gatherings at his golf club near Palm City.
A steadfast supporter of the Prep’s mission, Peter sponsored every capital campaign at the leadership level. The St. Francis Prep Physical Education and Athletic Training Center—dedicated to Coach Vince O’Connor—stands as a lasting testament to the generosity of the Callahan family.
In recognition of his dedication, Peter was inducted into the St. Francis Prep Hall of Fame in 2000.
Peter passed away in May 2024 at the age of 82
HIS LEGACY OFFAITH, FRIENDSHIP, AND GENEROSITY CONTINUES TO INSPIRE THE PREP COMMUNITY.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred, let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
O Divine Master, grant that I may
Not so much seek to be consoled as to console
To be understood, as to understand
To be loved, as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
And it’s in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it’s in dying that we are born to Eternal Life
Amen.

Dear Members of the St. Francis Prep Family,
It is with immense gratitude and abiding pride that I welcome you to the St. Francis Prep Red & Blue Terrier Ring of Honor Gala as we gather to induct and celebrate our fourth distinguished class of honorees.
Tonight, we recognize and applaud nine exceptional coaches and moderators, dedicated athletic directors, 42 outstanding studentathletes, and five championship teams whose achievements have brought great honor to our beloved school. Their commitment, discipline, teamwork, and integrity reflect not only athletic excellence, but the very spirit of St. Francis — a spirit rooted in humility, perseverance, and respect for one another.
Our coaches and moderators have done far more than guide teams to victory. They have mentored young men and women in character, faith, and leadership. The players we celebrate this evening have worn the Red & Blue with pride, demonstrating courage in competition and grace in both triumph and defeat. The championship teams enshrined tonight remind us that success is built not only on talent, but on unity, sacrifice, and shared purpose.
This celebration is only possible with the steadfast support of so many who believe in the mission of St. Francis Prep. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our devoted Board of Trustees and Alumni Board for their leadership and vision; to my fellow Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, whose presence and prayers sustain our ministry; to our dedicated administrators, faculty, and staff members who form the foundation of our daily work; to our faithful and generous parents; to our wonderful student body, whose enthusiasm gives life to our halls; and, especially, to the Ring of Honor Committee and the countless “Friends of Prep” whose loyalty and generosity ensure that our mission endures.
For more than a century and a half, St. Francis Preparatory School has sought to educate the whole person — mind, body, and spirit. Athletics has always been an integral part of that formation, teaching lessons that last long after the final whistle. Tonight’s honorees stand as living testimony to what can be accomplished when talent is guided by faith, discipline is shaped by character, and competition is rooted in respect.
To all of our inductees: congratulations. You are forever part of the Terrier legacy, and we are deeply proud of you.
May God and our patron, St. Francis, continue to bless you and St. Francis Prep.
“On for Ol’ St. Francis”,
Bro. Leonard Conway
Brother Leonard Conway, O.S.F., President St. Francis Preparatory School

Patrick J. McLaughlin
Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends,
It is my great honor, as Principal and as a proud alumnus of the Class of 1973, to welcome you to the Red & Blue Terrier Ring of Honor Gala. Tonight, we gather not only to celebrate achievement, but to affirm the enduring mission of St. Francis Preparatory School — to form young men and women of faith, integrity, compassion, and excellence.
At the heart of the Prep experience is our commitment to educating the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. Athletics and co-curricular life are essential expressions of that mission. On our fields, courts, tracks, and sidelines, students learn lessons that shape their character as much as any classroom instruction — resilience in adversity, humility in victory, discipline in preparation, respect for others, and trust in teammates.
This evening, we proudly induct and celebrate our outstanding student-athletes, coaches, moderators, and championship teams. Their accomplishments reflect far more than wins and titles. They embody courage — the willingness to compete with heart and to persevere through challenge. They demonstrate passion — an authentic love for their sport, their teammates, and their school. And they model dedication — countless hours of practice, sacrifice, and commitment in pursuit of a shared goal.
Our coaches and moderators deserve special recognition. They have served not only as strategists and mentors, but as educators in the fullest sense — guiding our young people to grow in confidence, leadership, and character. Their influence extends far beyond a season; it shapes lives.
As we celebrate our championship teams, we are reminded that true success is never achieved alone. It is built on unity, accountability, and a deep sense of purpose. These honorees have strengthened the proud tradition of Terrier athletics while remaining faithful to the values that define St. Francis Prep.
Again, congratulations. You have brought great pride to your families and to St. Francis Prep. More importantly, you have lived our mission through your courage, passion, and dedication. May the spirit of St. Francis continue to guide you, and may you always carry the lessons of the Prep with you.
Thank you for being part of this special celebration and for helping ensure that our mission continues to thrive for generations to come.
With pride and gratitude,
Patrick J. McLaughlin
Patrick J. McLaughlin ’73, Principal St. Francis Preparatory School

Growing up in Howard Beach, Jack Allen learned early about seizing a chance. Cut from the JV baseball team, it was Brother Robert Kent, who gave him an opportunity on St. Francis Prep’s Varsity squad, a chance that led to All-City honors and a blazing batting average of over .500. He took that momentum to Fordham University, where he became an unstoppable force, setting the school’s alltime stolen base record with 173 and leading the nation in steals in 1985. An inductee into the Fordham Hall of Fame, Jack translated those lessons of “never giving up” and “taking every challenge” into a successful career as the Director of IT at BCM One. Today, Jack lives in Orlando with his wife, Tonya, and their children, Nick and Sydney, having dedicated 10 years to coaching youth baseball. For Jack, his nomination is a tribute to the brother who believed in him, Brother Robert Kent, and it is a testament to the power of opportunity.

Ryan Bacci was born and raised in Bayside, Queens, along with his brother Connor ’15, by their parents Kelley (Hughes) ’83 and Daniel ’82. Enrolling at St. Francis Prep in 2006, he continued a proud family tradition that includes not only his parents and brother, but
Ryan began swimming competitively at the age of eight and continued during all four years on the varsity team at St. Francis Prep. During his time at the Prep, he qualified for both the YMCA Short and Long Course National Championships individually in the 50, 100 and 200-yard freestyle, 100 and 200yard breaststroke, and 200-yard Individual Medley as well as a member of multiple relays. He competed in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle at the New York State High School Championships as a junior and senior. His standout achievements as a Terrier were gold and silver medals in the 50-yard freestyle at the New York Catholic High School Championships during his junior and senior years in 2009 and 2010. He was a three-time team MVP from 2008 to 2010 and served as captain during the 2009 - 2010 season, his senior year.
After graduating from Prep in 2010, Ryan attended Iona College on a full academic and athletic scholarship, competing all four

years on the Division I swim team in sprint freestyle, breaststroke and individual medleys. He was a member of the MAAC All-Academic Team and a MAAC Championship Finalist, both individually and as a relay member, all four years. He was a member of the MAAC Championship silver and gold medal-winning men’s 400 freestyle relays in 2012 and 2014, respectively, and held multiple school records—some of which mirrored those held by his teammate and future wife, Kerri, on the Iona women’s side. He graduated from Iona’s Honors Program in 2014 with a B.A. in International Studies and French.
Ryan then attended King’s College London in the United Kingdom, where he earned an M.A. in international relations with a concentration in international law, political violence and terrorism. While at the university, he competed for King’s Swimming and Water Polo Club and played in the 2015 BUCS National Championship.
Ryan is currently a vice president of financial crime risk in the investment banking division at Morgan Stanley in New York. He is also an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Ryan lives in Floral Park, where he is a member of the volunteer fire department, with his wife, Kerri, and their daughter, Sienna.

Between 1999 and 2001, Jessica Baker dominated high school gymnastics in the Nassau Suffolk Catholic High School Girls Athletic Association (NSCHSGAA). Her performances were nothing short of extraordinary. She earned the prestigious “Perfect 10” Gymnast of the Year Award three consecutive times from The Queens Courier, Brooklyn Courier-Life, and Bronx Times, a testament to her consistent excellence and technical mastery.
As team captain in both 2000 and 2001, Jessica led by example, setting the CHSAA vaulting record in both years. Her technical precision was evident across all events, with top high school scores of 9.35 on vault, 9.75 on bars, 9.25 on beam and 9.6 on floor exercise. Her senior year in 2001 marked the pinnacle of her high school career when she captured first place in the All-Around competition at the NSCHSGAA Individual Championships, sweeping first place on floor exercise, uneven bars and balance beam. She was also a USGA Region VI Junior Olympic Level 10 qualifier and earned All-Long Island selection honors three times, establishing herself as one of the most decorated gymnasts in the region’s history. Today, as an educator, wife, mom of two, coach and advocate for children battling cancer, Jessica continues to live out the values instilled in her at St. Francis Prep.

Born in New York, Rashad Bell’s journey was built on a foundation of discipline. Guided by his parents’ devotion, he entered St. Francis Prep in 1998. In his senior year, he shattered the SFP single-game scoring record with a 52-point game against Molloy and was the CHSAA’s leading scorer, earning Brooklyn/ Queens Player of the Year and All-City Honors.
That momentum carried him to Boston University on a full scholarship, where he led the Terriers to the NCAA tournament and secured back-to-back All-Conference honors. But the world was waiting. From the courts of Finland and Hungary, where he was crowned league MVP, to championships in Iraq and Greece, Rashad became a major player in international professional basketball. Today, returning to his New York roots, Rashad serves as the dean of students at Promise Academy in Harlem, investing his legacy into the next generation of leaders.

Robert Byrnes ’71 passed tragically in 1975. However, the legacy he left has been an inspiration for the countless track athletes who have run for the Prep for more than 50 years. A team captain, Byrnes, graduated from the Prep, having recorded the second-fastest time in school cross country history and 55 years later, still holds the eighth position on the record list.
Additionally, he finished 12th in the individual New York State Cross Country Championship and was an individual City Champion on the track. Following his time at Prep, Byrnes attended Fordham University. There, he would become a two-time All-American and the individual two-mile Metropolitan Champion, while leading The Rams to their first-ever NCAA Championships in cross country.

Coach Robert Capen, an honorary member of The St. Francis Prep Class of 2025, has a long and storied coaching career. A court officer in New York City from 1982-2010, Coach began his affiliation with The Prep in 1994 as a coach in the Summer Basketball Camp. Soon, he would find himself working the sidelines with the Prep JV team, and before long, he would add both baseball and football to his coaching responsibilities. During his long tenure at St. Francis, Capen has coached many all-league athletes across all three sports and has led his teams to numerous BrooklynQueens and CHSAA Championships. He is greatly respected by his players and colleagues alike.

By age eleven, Nick Caputi found his calling as a goalkeeper, a move that turned the tide at St. Francis Prep. During the 2003 playoffs, he anchored a historic run, recording crucial saves in back-to-back scoreless penalty shootout victories. Nick’s pivotal save in the City Championship against Holy Cross helped propel the Terriers to their first City Title in 20 years, followed by the program’s first State Championship.
A CHSAA MVP and All-City honoree, Nick returned to Prep to coach. His passion for digital media, sparked by a championship video, led to a successful career in marketing. Today, Nick is dedicated to his wife, Kelly, and two sons. He spends his time coaching youth sports, passing on the values of confidence, sportsmanship, and respect he learned on the field.

At his graduation from the Prep in 1986, Rich Carroll had earned varsity letters in track and field, swimming and rugby while developing his love for what he considered the greatest team sport, football. But for him, St. Francis Prep was never just about football; it was about learning to play for something bigger than yourself. From a gritty team captain in 1985 to the right-hand man of the legendary Vince O’Connor, Rich absorbed a legacy of selflessness and honor.
Today, holding the torch passed down by his mentor, Coach Carroll uses the game to build character, molding boys into men of grit, and creating a link between Prep Football History and today. At the Prep, the tradition lives on thanks to Head Football Coach Rich Carroll.

James Cassano, a self-proclaimed “basketball junkie” by the age of 9, graduated from The Prep in 1974. A three-year varsity starter. The Prep Captain averaged 25 points per game as a senior and was awarded Parade All-American Status. He credits Coach Tim Leary with playing a key role in his basketball development, and Bro. Robert Kent was a great influence in his life.
Following his success on North 6th Street, James was offered a scholarship to Fordham University by Coach PJ Carlisemo. Unfortunately, a serious ankle injury during his freshman season would bring his playing career to an abrupt halt. Jimmy went on to an outstanding career as a journeyman carpenter, and along with his wife, Noreen, has three children and four grandchildren. He continues to coach on the youth level today at St. Margaret’s, Middle Village, as he has done for over 40 years.

A 1987 graduate, Adrian Chirici burst onto the scene as a sophomore at St. Francis and quickly made his presence known as he assumed the First Singles position on the Varsity Team. During his illustrious High School career, Adrian won multiple individual Brooklyn/Queens and City Championships, as well as the Combined Public/Catholic/Private Schools Title. He also led the Terriers to the Team City Championship each year at SFP. Adrian continued his Tennis career at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he won back-to-back individual championships and led the Knights to three conference championships.
After spending some time playing on the ATP World Tour, Adrian began coaching and mentoring highly ranked junior players in the metropolitan area and has been named USTA Coach of the Year twice. He continues coaching today on Long Island, where he lives with his wife, Liz and their two children.

As the head volleyball coach for both the girls’ and boys’ teams, Kevin Colucci has been a fixture at St. Francis Prep for 27 years. In dominating the Brooklyn Queens League, his Varsity Girls Program has produced 11 Diocesan Titles and has made 19 finals appearances. Additionally, his teams have won two City Championships and one New York State Championship, reaching the state finals five times. During this dominant era, he has been named the CHSAA Coach of the Year multiple times.
Outside of Prep, Kevin is highly respected as a club volleyball coach of elite athletes and the director of Dawn Patrol Beach Volleyball Club. Off the court, Kevin can be found spending time with his wife, Jackie, and their children, Donnie and Louise.

Growing up in Flushing, Marybeth Colucci built her foundation at St. Francis Prep. She was a powerhouse athlete, lettering in track, basketball, field hockey and softball. In 1979, Mary Beth captained the girls’ softball City Championship team. That same year, she was named MVP and The SFP Girls’ Athlete of the Year. Prep taught her valuable lessons: communication, discipline and the crucial concept that success, win or lose, depends on the entire team. These skills, alongside her family’s values of faith and community, fueled her career after earning degrees from Marist and St. John’s. Marybeth soared through the ranks of Consumer Marketing and Executive Management, holding key roles at several major companies, including Disney. Today, Mary Beth enjoys spending time with family and friends, many of whom she first met on the playing fields of St. Francis Prep.

Shinann Featherston is clearly one of the most dominant tennis players in St. Francis Prep and New York City history. Following in her sisters’ footsteps, Shinann made the daily trip from the Rockaways to Fresh Meadows. As a four-year number one singles starter, she captured title after title, completing an undefeated high school career in 2008 with an 88-0 individual record.
During her four years, her Terrier team was also undefeated; part of a 20-year run in which The Lady Terriers amassed over 140 straight match victories. Upon graduation, Shinann headed south to the University of North Carolina, where she would become a two-time All-American ACC Team Champion and ACC MVP. Following a four-year coaching stint at Chapel Hill, Shinann has worked as an attorney at Major League Soccer.

Bill Ficke has been a shining example of Franciscan living in action. A standout basketball star of the late 1950s, Bill would make the daily trip from Long Beach to North 6th Street. As the big man in the middle, Bill helped lead the Terriers to the CHSAA Championship Tournament at Fordham University for two consecutive years under the leadership of Ring of Honor Coach Chick Keegan.
Bill would go on to play at Belmont Abbey College (where he is a member of The Hall of Fame) under legendary Coach Al McGuire before entering the Air Force and eventually settling in Colorado. In addition to a successful coaching and scouting career in the NBA, Bill has been an incredibly visible business owner in the Denver area.
Through The JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation, founded by Bill in memory of his wife, JoAnn, and “Big Bill’s Annual Day of Giving,” nearly 2.5 million dollars has been donated to local and national cancer charities since 2009. Today, Bill’s time is spent working at his Denver restaurant, Big Bill’s New York Pizza, and at the JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation. Most of all, he loves being with his son, Dan and his wife, and spoiling his four grandchildren.

It began as a family legacy at St. Francis Prep, but Kelly Flynn, Class of 2013, quickly carved her own path. A varsity captain, two-time All City First Team selection and the 2012 NYC Player of the Year, she was a force at the net. That drive carried her to Lafayette College. Balancing Division 1 volleyball with a Chemical Engineering degree, Kelly graduated as one of the program’s all-time greatest blockers. Today, her instinct to protect reaches the stars. As a NASA ETHOS Flight Controller, Kelly manages life support for the International Space Station. Recently honored with the NASA Exceptional Public Service Medal, Kelly has gone from blocking shots to keeping astronauts safe as a real-life

A 1983 graduate of The Prep, Sal Fischetti started teaching at St. Francis Prep in 1987, turning a love for sports into a legendary career. From 1989-96, he led the powerhouse girls varsity basketball team, which dominated the Catholic league landscape. His leadership culminated in a New York State Championship. He was also awarded Coach of the Year Honors. After years of teaching, Sal became the director of athletics and tirelessly built a model program. Colleagues describe him as the “first one in and the last one out,” always prioritizing the students and staff in his charge. With his guidance and leadership, St. Francis Prep continues to be a force every season across all sports, winning numerous league, city, and state championships year in and year out. Today, Sal continues in his roles as athletic director and chairperson of the Health and Physical Education Department. He is the loving husband to Denise and devoted father to Jessica, Lauren and Victoria.
A three year varsity starter, he ranks third on the All-Time scoring list at St. Francis Prep. As a striker on the Terrier squad, he led the team to the City Championship and a run at the New York State Final. Twice an All-City Selection, the Terrier Soccer Captain would lead the CHSAA in scoring his senior year. Continuing his career at SUNY New Paltz, the 3 year college captain went on to be named to The SUNY Athletic Conference All Decade Team. Now a Member of the New York City Fire Department, the lifelong Queens resident, lives in Whitestone with his wife Julia Ann and their three children.

A key defender on a City Championship winning soccer team, he helped the Terriers to The New York State Championship Final. As a prep team captain, he was a 3 time AllLeague selection and in his final season at St. Francis, was New York City Player of the Year. Upon graduation, he continued his education at Villanova University. There he was a 4 year starter and captain his junior and senior years for the nationally ranked Wildcats squad before embarking on a professional career landing him in Sweden, Ireland, and eventually for several years in The MLS with Rio Grande, Tulsa and Houston. Today Kevin resides in Washington D.C. and serves as a player in The MLS.

Born in Springfield Gardens, Dr. Cyril Gillman’s early passion was baseball, where he learned the vital lessons of accountability and leadership. At St. Francis Prep, he shifted his focus, transforming him into a nationally ranked middle-distance runner, even sacrificing baseball for the track. This commitment continued at the University of Maryland, where he competed as a high Division 1 athlete.
His focus led him next to medical school at UVA and a career as a dedicated Emergency Medicine physician. Working alongside fellow Prep alum, Dr. Paul Alleyne, Cyril applies the same teamwork and discipline from the track to the demanding, high-stakes environment of the emergency room.
Today, he pays it forward by coaching and mentoring young athletes, embodying the St. Francis Prep tradition of dedication, leadership and service. Cyril’s life shows that success comes from relentless preparation, effort, resilience and sacrifice.

From the Little League fields of Queens to the halls of St. Francis Prep, Monique Gillman was forged by discipline and community. A true scholar-athlete, she excelled in everything from concert band to track, eventually competing at the Division 1 College level. Her college accolades include placing third in the Big Ten long jump while earning honors as an Arthur Ashe Scholar. But her drive didn’t stop at the finish line. Monique returned home to New York for medical school at SUNY Brooklyn Medical College, traded her spikes for a white coat, and began a career in service. Today, in Houston, Texas, she’s known as Dr. Gillman. Whether she’s delivering care as an OB-GYN or training for her next marathon, Monique embodies the spirit of a champion— balancing medicine and movement with the same perseverance that started in New York.

Nicole Gillman’s journey began in Queens, New York, where the Cambria Heights Sports Association ignited her passion for athletics and teamwork. At St. Francis Prep, she excelled as a two-sport athlete in track and softball, while also performing in the concert band. She continued her athletic and academic career at the college level, majoring in biology while also competing as a sprinter and long jumper, earning Academic All–Big Ten honors and the Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award. Nicole went on to graduate with honors from Meharry Medical College. A dedicated physician, mentor and volunteer, she now serves the Greater Houston area. Still an avid athlete, Nicole credits her family and St. Francis Prep for the foundation of hard work, perseverance and leadership that has guided her remarkable path.

Originally from Howard Beach, 1994 graduate, Jessica Grossarth was a dominant two sport athlete at St. Francis Prep. While excelling in the classroom during her years at the Prep, she was four year starter at shortstop for the Lady Terrier softball team and a versatile inside/outside threat on the basketball court. During the mid 1990’s she led The Prep to multiple league titles in both softball and basketball. Out of high school, Jessica was recruited to play basketball at Division I Fairfield University. There she would again thrive as both a student and athlete before heading off to law school. Today Jessica is a practicing attorney and lives in Connecticut.

Anthony (Tony) Grimm grew up in Brooklyn’s Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish and attended Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School before earning a B.A. in philosophy from Cathedral College and continuing to Immaculate Conception Seminary. After voluntary military service, Tony was commissioned as a U.S. Navy officer. In his 31 years with St. Francis Prep, he has led The Seraph newspaper, moderated the Chess Club for 27 years, and guided both varsity and JV Chess Teams to multiple city titles. Tony has also coached varsity and JV handball for 16 years. Over that span, he has guided the Terriers to an extraordinary combined 30 undefeated city championships. A lifelong learner, Tony’s journey reflects dedication to education, leadership and service.

A three-year varsity baseball team starter, he was one of several dominant forces on the 2007 City Championship-winning team. In leading the CHSAA in homeruns and RBI’s, he would be named Brooklyn Queens Player of the Year and was a first-team All-City selection. He would continue his baseball career as a four-year starter at St. John’s University before being selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball draft by the San Diego Padres.

Kara Kelly-McCarthy’s inspiring journey began in Middle Village, moving from Our Lady of Hope to St Francis Prep, where her passion for cheerleading was born. She excelled as a captain at Hofstra University and quickly began coaching back at Prep. Returning as Varsity Head Coach in 1999, Kara transformed the SFP program over nearly two decades, building championship teams that would compete nationally and nurturing a sense of Franciscan community among her cheerleading squads.
Today, Kara serves as Principal of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Academy, right where she started. Though she’s traded pom-poms for a principal’s desk, Kara remains a true cheerleader, now supporting her students, staff and the entire school community, and of course, leading with the same dedication and heart that she did while coaching at The Prep.

Attending “Prep” was a dream come true for Susan Logan ’89. She embraced both the academic rigor of the school and the competitive sports programs she yearned to be a part of. At St. Francis, she spent all four years playing softball, basketball and soccer. Under the leadership of coaches Joann Wagner and Jane Modry, Sue’s Prep Varsity basketball team dominated the CHSAA during the 88-’89 season, ultimately winning a New York State Championship. Her outstanding four-year varsity soccer career led her to four more years at the collegiate level playing for the University of Scranton. Today, Sue continues to support others through her work as a nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She and her husband, John, are parents to two adult sons.

Reagan McGorry was a four-sport star at St. Francis Prep, excelling in basketball, cross country, track and field, and volleyball. Her leadership and skill led to an undefeated basketball season, a City Championship, and, in 1989, a state Championship. On the track, Reagan soared, setting a school relay record and claiming the City Championship in the 400 Intermediate Hurdles two consecutive years. Her accomplishments earned her the prestigious Al Powers Scholar Athlete Award. At the University of Scranton, she continued to shine, captaining two sports and leading her basketball team to the NCAA Final Four before heading to law school.
For 15 years, as a vice president at IMG, she negotiated celebrity and athlete contracts and currently works as a freelance consultant and actress while advocating for the elderly. She now lives in Westchester with her husband, Matthew, and son, Aidenn.

Greatness is built on consistency. At The Prep, Andrew Meditz wasn’t just a swimmer; he was the heartbeat of the team. A four-year standout and 2004 captain, Andrew’s “teamfirst” mentality earned him the CHSAA’s Most Outstanding Swimmer award, setting the stage for a legendary career.
At Adelphi University, Andrew broke school records in the breaststroke and freestyle relays. Graduating Magna Cum Laude, he earned the prestigious Presidential Award for excellence in academics, athletics, and service.
In 2011, Andrew returned to The Prep to lead the next generation. A two-time Coach of the Year, he guided the girls’ program to its best finish in school history. From record-breaking athlete to championship coach, Andrew Meditz embodies the true spirit of The Prep.

Natale “Nat” Modica’s journey is defined by discipline and teamwork, values forged on the field. Growing up in Ozone Park, Nat’s path to St. Francis Prep was paved by the sacrifice of his mother, Rose. It was there he was recognized as the Business Student of the Year, but truly shone as a key member of the Prep Football Team, a team that made CHSFL Triple A Championship. This foundation carried him to Iona College where he became a force in Division I football, earning a starting role as a freshman and quickly making history with his performance. Today, Nat applies that championship focus as an executive director at JPMorgan Chase. The resilience and commitment from the gridiron still drive him, inspiring his community leadership and continued support for the St. Francis Prep legacy.

One of the most well-known graduates of St. Francis Prep, Marlon Morris hit the Prep football field in 1980 and instantly became a star running back and the most loyal teammate. His speed earned him the nickname “Mercury” as well as All-City accolades. He was a cornerstone of the undefeated 1983 Championship team, a team ranked #1 in New York State and #25 nationally. On the greatest stage of his High School Career, Marlon would carry the Terriers to victory, scoring three touchdowns in the Metro Bowl.
Marlon’s impact went far beyond football. He was a beloved, long-standing member of the SFP Alumni Board, and he cherished his connection to the Prep community. To the Alumni that he spent so much time with, he became known by yet another nickname, “Mr. St. Francis Prep”. Above all, Marlon was the proud father of his twin daughters, Sophia and Lyla, the true joy of his life. Marlon sadly passed away last spring and is sorely missed. The wonderful memories, the joy he brought, and his remarkable legacy, however, will last forever.

Born and raised in Rockaway Beach, Nicole Nelson played four years of varsity softball, winning three City Championships and two State titles. In 1997, she batted over .700, made no errors and was named NYC Player of the Year. Nicole received a scholarship to attend and play softball at Providence College.
Battling a serious infection that nearly caused her to lose her leg, Nicole returned to the field and earned both her B.S. and M.B.A. degrees. Nicole would go on to join Arch Insurance Group, rising to regional vice president within 10 years. The Prep’s lessons of teamwork, communication and dealing with pressure became her blueprint for success.
In 2022, she seized a new opportunity, moving to St. Petersburg, Florida, to expand her company’s footprint. Recognizing strengths, having fun and rising to the occasion are characteristics instilled in her while she was at St. Francis Prep— characteristics that have made her the person she is today.

Tom Nevitt’s journey is defined by unparalleled excellence. At St. Francis, he was a dominant three-sport athlete, playing football and rugby, and throwing for the track and field team. He was a senior cocaptain of the nationally ranked 1976 Football Championship team, a NY Daily News All-City selection, and a National Champion shot-putter. He continued his football career at the University of North Carolina and then as a three-year starter and All-Ivy selection at Columbia.
Off the field, Tom built a formidable 40+ year career on Wall Street, rising to partner and board director. He now serves as managing director at Raymond James, all while dedicating time as a mentor and benefactor to multiple charities. Most importantly, Tom has been happily married for over 40 years to Maria and is the proud father of three daughters. He is a man who embodies success

A native of Rosedale, Kathy Noonan-Finnerty ’85, entered Prep thinking that she would play tennis. That idea changed quickly when she was recruited out of gym class to come out for the track team by Bro. Richard.
Kathy enjoyed an outstanding career running, but was even more dominant in field events. During her time at St. Francis, Kathy won a number of titles in individual events and set several school relay records. This helped the Prep team capture several Brooklyn Queens titles during her tenure and the CHSAA Intersectional City Championship in her senior year. To close out her storied High School career, Kathy was crowned a double City Champion, winning the High Jump and Triple Jump while setting the New York State Triple Jump record.

Chris Pickel is a name synonymous with St. Francis Prep football excellence. Following his three older brothers, Chris defined the program with leadership and grit, earning All-City honors and the New York Post MVP in 1985 while captaining the Prep to a CHSFL Championship. Additionally, Chris was named New York Magazine’s Athlete of the Year. After earning three Varsity Football Letters and his degree from Rutgers, Chris traded the gridiron for public service. For 25 years, he served with distinction in the U.S. Park Police, providing security at four Presidential Inaugurations. Today, Chris and his wife, Marianne, are proudest of their two children, Christopher and Meghan. A true leader, dedicated son and family man—the Prep spirit lives on in Chris Pickel.

James C. Pickel, Jr. ’07 is a second-generation Prep graduate, the son of James C. Pickel ’82 and Elisa M. Pickel ’82, as well as the brother of Cody Pickel ’10, and the nephew of fellow Ring of Honor members Bill Pickel ’77 and Chris Pickel ’86. James met Kathryn ’07, his wife and captain of the championship tennis team, while at Prep.
While at Prep, James was a member of the Varsity Men’s Swim team, becoming captain in his senior year. As a student-athlete, James was also the captain of the Science Olympiad and a semi-finalist in the Intel Science Talent Search.
After graduating from Prep, James attended St. John’s University, majoring in Government and Politics, and graduated with honors in two and a half years. James then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, graduated with honors and was a member of the Law Review.
Kathy is currently an OR nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she relies on the lessons of preparation, teamwork and time management learned at the Prep. She and her husband, Colin Finnerty, have three adult children and live in Woodside.
Currently, James is a practicing attorney in New York and is a member of the board of trustees of The Holy Child Academy in Old Westbury. James resides on Long Island with his wife and children. James credits his success both personally and professionally to the lessons he learned in the halls of Prep and in the pool – that to be successful, you must push yourself both mentally and physically, and to lead by example.

Ariel Pierre is a proud 2007 graduate of St. Francis Preparatory School, where her foundation was shaped by family, athletics and a deep commitment to community. A member of the St. Francis Prep volleyball program, Ariel led the Lady Terriers to the Brooklyn Queens Title and to the New York State “Final Four” on two occasions. A fouryear Varsity starter, Ariel was named team MVP and Newsday Player of the Year. She is still the all-time program leader in kills. Ariel went on to attend Temple University, where she competed as a Division I volleyball student-athlete. Balancing elite athletics and academic rigor strengthened her ability to perform under pressure, collaborate across differences and persevere.
Before embarking on a distinguished professional career in financial services, Ariel returned to coaching, spending five years mentoring youth and high school athletes. Through coaching, she supported character development, confidence and resilience, particularly for young women navigating academics, athletics and personal growth. Ariel credits her family for modeling leadership through service and discipline. She lives in Westchester County with her husband, Brant, and their two children, Amelie and Bennett.

John Pomarico’s passion for football began when he watched his older brother, leading him to St. Francis Prep, where he captained the team and earned All-City honors in 1976. A full athletic scholarship to CW Post was overshadowed by a sudden, fierce battle: a diagnosis of Stage IV cancer during his freshman year. For two years, John endured grueling, experimental treatments. Yet, driven by his credo, “Work hard. Don’t cut corners. Do everything the right way,” he fought back. John returned to the field and was later inducted into the CW Post Athletic Hall of Fame. Today, John, a successful pharmaceutical sales executive and father to a West Point alum, embodies the perseverance learned on and off the gridiron.

Michael Prendergast ’82 is from one of the “First Families” in St. Francis Prep history. A First Team All Brooklyn/Queens and All City honoree, he was a backcourt star under the guidance of coach Tim Leary. Matching up against the likes of future NBA star Kenny Smith, the Prep floor general led The Terriers to multiple remarkable seasons during his varsity career. After a brief stop at Loyola of Maryland, Mike headed to Manhattanville College, where he would eventually be inducted into the Hall of Fame. At Manhattanville, he would go on to score over 1,000 points and finish his career as the all-time leader in steals. After graduating, he joined the FDNY, where he played internationally on three of their World Olympic Teams. Mike has been married to Mary for 35 years and is the father of three sons, Connor, Ryan and Aidan

Coach Franco Purificato’s soccer coaching career began over 30 years ago, leading the JV team to a City Championship before taking the reins as Head Varsity Coach in 2000. Since then, his leadership has defined the program, accumulating an incredible 302 wins. Under Franco, the Prep soccer team has secured 10 Brooklyn/Queens Championships, six Varsity City Championships, a State Championship and a Mayor’s Cup. His success has earned him CHSAA Coach of the Year Honors. As Athletic Director Sal Fischetti says, Franco takes talented players and “molds them into a great team.” He doesn’t just win; he develops players and has created the best NYC team over the past 25 years. Away from the field, Franco shares his life with his wife, Melanie, and their three children: Francesco, Carolina and Marco.

Peter Rappa was a celebrated athlete and scholar, earning First Team All-City honors in football and baseball and delivering the salutatorian address at St. Francis Prep. He lettered in football, baseball, basketball and swimming and was a starter on the baseball team that went on to win the 1979 CHSAA championship. At graduation, Peter received the Al Powers Memorial Award for outstanding student athlete. He went on to Columbia as a two-sport athlete, then to Texas Tech, where he earned his M.D. in 1989, later meeting his wife Monica and welcoming triplet daughters. Dr. Rappa built a distinguished career in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and channeled his philosophy of mind, body and spirit healing into his practice, authoring the books “Healing Heart to Soul” and “A Hero in Time.”

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ann Marie Ditizio Rich earned her degrees from St. Francis and Queens Colleges. Having previously worked at Bishop Loughlin High School, her journey at St. Francis Prep began in 1987, first coaching JV softball before joining the faculty full-time in 1990 to teach Biology. Upon leading the JV team to success, Ann Marie was appointed the Varsity Head Coach in 1995. Since then, her teams have captured seven Brooklyn/Queens, four City and one State Championship, earning her five Coach of the Year titles and a record of 344-137.
Today, Ann Marie continues to teach biology, mentor student teachers, and serve as the GCSAA softball commissioner. She is forever grateful for the support she receives from her husband Kerry, colleagues, and, of course, St. Francis Prep.

As a freshman at St. Francis Prep, Tony Sabatino started as the designated hitter, earning the starting third base spot sophomore year. By junior year, Tony was a varsity star, leading the team in batting average, hits and extra base hits, earning him a spot in the Max Case Memorial Game at Yankee Stadium. As a senior captain, he was named to the Daily News’ “All Queens” CHSAA First Team. Tony’s ultimate sporting memory was wearing the “Red and Blue” and winning the 1979 CHSAA City Championship against Archbishop Molloy! After building a stellar medical career, the commitment remained: Tony proudly returned to Prep to volunteer as the game-day physician for the Varsity Football team. His passion for sports, academics and service remains an inspiration.

Family always came first for Drew Samuels. His mother, Myrl, instilled strong values in Drew and his three brothers, Troy, Sean and Christopher; values that led him to St. Francis Prep. Here, Drew found a second home.
As a thousand-point scorer at The Prep and 1997 Queens Player of the Year, Drew lived for big moments, leading the Terriers to a Brooklyn-Queens Championship and a run at the City Title, before losing in the Championship to a group of Future NBA stars. Following his success at SFP and graduation, Drew attended Marist College on an athletic scholarship, where he would earn All-MAAC Honors.
From there, Drew went to play internationally in the professional leagues of England and Colombia. Upon returning to the U.S., Drew began working as a coach, supporting teams at his elementary alma mater and at St. Francis Prep. His favorite athlete to coach, however, is his son, Dre.

Teresa Voda-Connaughton grew up in Flushing. As an outstanding student athlete, her strength echoed through the halls of St. Francis Prep. Her dominance as a Field Events star led the Prep track team to four City Championships and earned her two varsity records that have now stood for over 45 years.
After high school, Terry traded the track for the hospital, earning her B.S. in nursing from Molloy College. Her dedication led her from Long Island to Washington, D.C., where she specialized in cardiac care. She later transitioned to a nurse consultant, continuing her commitment to healthcare.
Maried to Sean Connaughton since 1984, Terry’s life is anchored by family, faith and service. As a mother to Courtney and Sean Jr., she instilled these values. Her continued community work, including her role with the Potomac Hospital Foundation, speaks volumes to her unwavering commitment.

Born in Brooklyn in 1960, Robert Waegelein’s journey was defined by early adversity. When a car accident left his father disabled, the family’s spirit didn’t waver; it grew stronger. Choosing to decline a full scholarship from Regis High School, Waegelein’s life took a “magnificent turn” as Bro. Kevin Smith provided financial support for him to attend The Prep. A rare three-sport captain, he earned seven varsity letters and the Al Powers Award for the top student-athlete. From the 1976 City Football Championship to the swimming pool and the baseball diamond, he was a force of nature. Under the guidance of Coach Vince O’Connor, the first-generation college student found his path to Amherst College, where he would become captain and a three-year starter on the football team. After a standout collegiate career and 25 years as a successful NYSE executive, he returned to his roots as “Coach Waegelein.” Today, the Prep Hall of Famer serves where it all began, working his 12th season as a volunteer coach, shaping boys into men and giving back to the Prep community that molded him.

Tim Wagner was a rare nine-time varsity letterman across five different sports: basketball, football, golf, soccer and tennis. During the same fall season, Tim was named to the All-City teams in both soccer and football, helping the Terriers to a City Championship in football. He was named the soccer team MVP and received the Al Powers Student Athlete Award at graduation. He continued his success at CW Post, helping lead the football team to the NCAA tournament and setting a school scoring record that still stands today. Now a CPA and father of four with his wife, Lauren, Tim credits his success to the resilience he learned on the field at St. Francis Prep.

At St. Francis Prep, Nancy Wiese-Williams was a four-time All-City and All-League selection, leading her team to multiple championships. In 1991, she and her partner, Vania Yui, captured the New York State Doubles title, making history as the first Catholic school pair to do so. In college, Nancy was a four-year starter and a Big East All-Academic Team Selectee at St. John’s, later returning to become the Red Storm’s Head Coach. With 24 years as a dedicated guidance counselor at The Prep, she has supported and inspired countless students. The proud mother of Prep graduates, Sarah and Robbie, Nancy is honored to join her brother, Andrew and husband, Rob, in the Ring of Honor.

A standout second baseman and captain for St. Francis Prep, Rob played under the legendary Br. Robert Kent, before taking his talents to St. Francis College, where he helped lead his team to the 1992 Northeast Conference Championship. He finished his college career as team MVP, hitting an impressive .352.
Rob returned to Prep in 1996, beginning a 20-year coaching run alongside Br. Rob. As a coach, he helped secure over 350 wins, including the thrilling 2007 City Championship.
For 28 years, Rob has been a dedicated English teacher and continues to volunteer with the baseball program. A devoted husband to Nancy and proud father of SFP grads Sarah and Robbie, Rob’s life is a testament to the Franciscan spirit.

A standout student and athlete at St Francis Prep, Rodney graduated in 1984. While at the Prep, he was a remarkable four-time Daily News All-Star, and earned a reputation as CHSAA baseball’s “most feared slugger.” He went on to a college career at New York Tech and later married his wife, Lawanda. Together, they raised four children, and Rodney had the pride-filled experience of coaching his three sons on the baseball diamond for many years. Rodney dedicated his career to the trucking industry, working for companies like DHL and Coca-Cola in Roanoke, Virginia, and still loves America’s pastime.

Christopher Zambrano was a two-sport star athlete at The Prep. As captain of the varsity football team, he led the Terriers to the CHSFL AAA Championship game. As a senior, he was named Queens Player of the year and received All New York City first team Honors. Chris was also named to the All New York State team and was named MVP of The New York City/Long Island All-Star game. At graduation, Chris received the prestigious Alfred E. Powers Student-Athlete Award. Chris would next take his drive to Lehigh University, where he dominated as a defensive tackle and became a three-time letter winner before heading off to medical school in Philadelphia. Today, a devoted husband and father of two, Chris serves as a surgeon at Ellis Hospital in Albany.

To name a few of his accomplishments that embody his time and dedication will exemplify his commitment to Excellence. He is in the CHSAA Hall of Fame for both the Boys’ and Girls’ Leagues, the St. Francis Prep Hall of Fame, the CHSFL Board of Governors, and serves as the CHSAA Treasurer for both the Boys’ and Girls’ Leagues and now the Ring of Honor! He embodies compassion, respect, integrity, dignity, and leadership.
Well done, good and faithful servant!
