Through our Employer Advisory Boards, we have created a unique way in which to ensure that the skills and training we offer is required by businesses to support growth, development and success. We Are an Enterprising College “City College Plymouth students are trained to an extremely high standard, and they come into the workplace with real industry knowledge and skills. The training facilities at the College ensure that students get hands-on practical experience, which is invaluable to us as an employer.” Jonathan Morcom, Director – Duke of Cornwall Hotel
Employers demand staff who possess key technical skills as well as vital employability skills and attributes, which include communication and team working skills, the ability to be adaptable and to think in an innovative way and the commitment to learn new skills quickly. We responded to this demand, and in 2012 we became a member of the Gazelle Colleges Group, a group of further education colleges committed to transforming further education by preparing students for their entry into the world of work. We have embedded enterprise and entrepreneurial activity in all that we do. This ensures that our students leave us with not only a depth of technical knowledge, but also a breadth of capabilities and qualities, including commercial awareness and acumen – we call these T-shaped learners.
Supporting business needs with work experience If you have a temporary shortage of staff, a surge in orders or simply an increased workload, our students can help by working at your business for FREE. By providing a work experience placement or internship to our students, you can enable them to gain vital employability skills but can also help your business during business critical times. Alternatively, our students could work on a small project for you, such as designing a new logo, or developing a website − all for FREE.
Recruit new staff now by calling us on 01752 305026 or e-mail employers@cityplym.ac.uk.
Employ our work-ready students with thejobspace Through work experience and enterprise activities, City College Plymouth is ensuring that its students make a positive impact on businesses from day one. But that’s not all …
Case Study: Swallowfield
New for this year is the introduction of our dedicated employment service, thejobspace; whether you are looking for temporary part-time workers or a permanent member of staff to enhance your current team, we can help.
City College Plymouth student, Beth Astill, is undertaking a BTEC qualification in Applied Science and looked to Swallowfield to undertake a work experience placement in a laboratory environment. Swallowfield, based in Bideford, produces products for global brands and retailers operating in the cosmetics, personal care and household goods market.
Provide us with your job vacancies and we will promote these to our student body; call us to discuss your workforce recruitment needs and we will work with you to ensure that you have access to the very best talent. Our team is on hand to help you with the recruitment and selection process … and it’s all FREE.
Abigail Jones, Development Manager at Swallowfield, said: “We are keen to support work experience and every effort is made to ensure students get the most out of the experience. We believe the time and effort required to accommodate students can be extremely rewarding, I would certainly recommend it. “Supporting work experience does require a certain amount of effort. However, we believe it is worthwhile. We have the opportunity to showcase our industry to budding chemists, sales people or even a future managing director.”
Management and Business Skills Workshops We understand that you need training that is flexible, specific to your business needs, cost-effective and which adds value across all areas – our range of Management and Business Skills Workshops provides just this. Having listened to your needs, we have introduced a refreshed range of workshops, which gives you access to a wide choice of training that can really impact positively on business and team performance. We have also introduced a series of packages to help you access job specific training to support internal progression and workforce development. Training packages of one, three, five and eight days provide you and your business with flexibility when choosing training for your staff, allowing you to pick and choose the workshops that best fill your skills gaps. Workshops can be delivered onsite at your premises or here at the College. We can provide dates and times around those advertised in this guide should you wish to book a session for your team (minimum/ maximum 12 delegates) and we can offer special discounts for businesses looking to make repeat purchases or looking to roll out a programme of training across the whole organisation.
