MU Prokofiev’s immortal symphonic fairytale Peter and the Wolf tells how young Peter sets off into the woods against his grandfather’s advice, encounters a wolf, and eventually emerges victorious – with a little help from his friends. Hear how each character in the story is depicted by a different musical instrument. Make this an unforgettable family musical outing!

Become your favourite superhero for a day and don your capes and suits for an action-packed programme with Alasdair Malloy as SuperMac, the Kilted Crusader. The music will provide a real rollercoaster ride of super heroic sounds from the SSO, showing off the orchestra’s super-strength, super-speed and super-sound!

It’s another round trip of musical exploration with SSO Associate Conductor Jason Lai! Learn about the life of the composers behind the music and how they make whole symphonies out of building blocks of musical themes. Find out what went into Brahms’ last symphony, the dark visions and heady dramas of Berlioz’s “Fantastic Symphony” as well as Bartók’s exhilarating Concerto for Orchestra, where everyone on stage is a soloist.

The SSO plays Leonard Bernstein’s electrifying score and memorable songs with lyrics by Stephen Sondheim live, while the newly re-mastered film is shown in glorious high definition on the big screen with the original vocals and dialogue intact. SSO musicians also travel into schools! The SSO’s Connect with Music! is an in-school programme which gives students an opportunity to meet and interact with the SSO musicians to make music education more meaningful. Selected representatives from the orchestra will perform a popular piece of music, showcase their instruments up-close, introduce the sections of the orchestra, and teach musical concepts in a lively and engaging manner. By way of storytelling, instrument demonstration, games and listening activities, Connect with Music! aims to inspire and encourage students to appreciate and develop their relationship with classical music.

Open rehearsals offer a behind-the- scenes perspective of how the conductor shapes every note and phrase with the orchestra, and how the individual sections come together as a harmonious whole.
