Singapore National Youth Orchestra
TheSingaporeNationalYouthOrchestrashowcasestheextraordinary capabilityofouryouth.Itinspiresthemtowardsartisticexcellence, nurturesthemtoreachbeyondtheirpotentialanddevelopsthemthrough rigoroustrainingwithinavibrant,supportive,anddiverseenvironment. Establishedformallyin1980,theSingaporeNationalYouthOrchestra (SNYO)celebratedits45ᵗʰanniversarymilestonein2025,markingmore thanfourdecadesofwelcominggenerationsofyouthsintothe transformativeworldoforchestralmusic,performinglocallyand representingSingaporeonprestigiousinternationalstages.
TheSNYOfamilycomprisestwoorchestras:theSingaporeNationalYouth OrchestraandSingaporeNationalYouthSinfonia,withover180members aged10to24frommorethan70schoolsacrossSingapore.Membersare guidedbyprofessionalmusiciansthroughrehearsals,sectionals,and masterclasses.RecognisedbytheMinistryofEducationasaNational ProjectofExcellence,participationintheSNYOisrecognisedasaCoCurricularActivity.
MusicDirectorJoshuaTanhasledtheSNYOsince2018,withAssociate ConductorSeowYibininpositionsince2022.Overtheyears,theSNYOhas performedinmajorconcertvenuesandmusicfestivalsacrossAustralia, Austria,China,HongKong,Macao,Germany,Italy,Japan,Malaysia,andthe UnitedKingdom.Theorchestrahasalsoengagedinartisticcollaborations withtheSingaporeBallet,TwoSetViolin,theSingaporeSymphony Orchestra,andfellowyouthorchestrasincludingtheHongKongYouth SymphonyOrchestraandtheMacaoYouthSymphonyOrchestra.
TheSNYOispartoftheSingaporeSymphonyGroup,whichalsomanages theSingaporeSymphonyOrchestraandSingaporeSymphonyChoruses, aswellastheSingaporeInternationalPianoFestivalandthebiennial NationalPiano&ViolinCompetition.

SeowYibinisaSingaporeanoboistandconductor.SinceJanuary2022,he hasbeenappointedastheAssociateConductorofSingaporeNational YouthOrchestra.HeisalsotheAssociateConductoroftheOrchestraofthe MusicMakers,andconductstheNanyangAcademyofFineArtsWind Orchestra,aswellastheconcertbandsofNationalJuniorCollegeand RafflesGirls’School(Secondary).WhilstbasedinEurope,hewasthe ConductoroftheJuniorRoyalNorthernCollegeofMusic(RNCM),UK, PrincipalGuestConductorofNorthCheshireWindOrchestra,UKand ConductoroftheMusikgesellschaftHarmonieBüsserach,Switzerland
YibinhasconductedattheSouthbankCentre’sTheRestisNoisefestival,at BBCRadio3livebroadcastandguestconductedbands,includingthe BlasorchesterSüdwind,Germany,ZürcherJugendblasorchesteru25, SwitzerlandandtheSociedadeFilarmonicaPalmelense“Loureiros”, Portugal.HealsoworkedextensivelywithBritishOrchestrassuchas ChesterPhilharmonicOrchestra,StockportSymphonyOrchestraandthe ManchesterCamerata.
InSingapore,hehasconductedprominentmusicalgroupssuchastheThe PhilharmonicWinds,OrchestraCollectiveandtheWindstarsEnsemble.As akeeneducator,healsopresentedaneight-weekradioseries,The ConcertBandProgramme,whichwasbroadcastonSymphony924,led workshopsattheSingaporeWoodwindFestivalandgivenconducting masterclassesatSchooloftheArtsandNationalJuniorCollege.He currentlyauthorsarticlesforTheBandPost.
YibinbeganoboestudiesattheYongSiewTohConservatoryofMusic, SingaporebeforefurtheringthemwithEmanuelAbbühlatMusik-Akademie Basel,Switzerland,wherehealsopursuedWindBandConductingstudies withFelixHauswirth.HesubsequentlyjoinedtheRNCM,studyingOrchestral ConductingunderClarkRundellandMarkHeron.Hehasalsoparticipated inconductingmasterclasseswithJuanjoMena,JacvanSteen,Tim Reynish,StanislawSkrowaczewskiandManuelNawri.

FranzSchubert’smusicaljourneybeganwhenhewas7yearsold parishschoolmasterfatherteachinghimtheviolin,whilehiselde taughthimpiano.Forabriefperiod,heworkedasaschoolteach fatherbuteventuallylivedasafreelancecomposer.Aprolificco Schubertwroteabout80to100worksperyear,includingover60 (Germanartsongs).
SchubertwasonlyeighteenwhenhewrotehisSymphonyNo.2i months.ThefirstmovementopenswithaLargointroduction,ch bydescendingchromaticviolinlinesanddramaticorchestralin thatbuildtensionbeforetransitioningintotheenergeticAllegro thissection,alight,pianissimoopeningthemerapidlyexpandsi powerfulfortissimosectionfromthefullorchestra.Thisrestlesse furtherheightenedbytheuseofsyncopatedaccents,whichdisr rhythmicflowanddrivethemovementtowarditshigh-spiritedc
