NOTES ON THE CONCERT
1. The music at this concert varies in mood and dynamics. In today’s concert, there are some sections with loud sounds and sound effects. 2. If the child is sensitive to loud noises, especially if your seats are near the front of the Concert Hall, we recommend that you bring noise-reducing headphones for them. Content 3. Little Red Riding Hood involves themed music, story narration, themed costumes and props and lighting effects which may be uncomfortable for some children. Relaxed Environment Etiquette 4. If you need to leave the hall during the performance, you will be allowed to re-enter again. 5. Audience members may clap after each piece. 6. Eating and drinking are not allowed in the Concert Hall. 7. Non-flash photography is allowed during the concert, but please be mindful not to disrupt the people around you. 8. While concert etiquette is relaxed at our family concerts, audience members should still remain in their seats to keep the aisle clear for others to pass. THE CONCERT
Today, we are going to the Victoria Concert Hall. This is where we will watch the Singapore Symphony Orchestra perform.
When we reach the Victoria Concert Hall, we will see the Instrument Petting Zoo at the Atrium at Level 1. Here, we can try out musical instruments and learn about them. There will be many people and instruments here. If it gets too loud, I can exit the building or go to a quieter area at Level 3.
We can also visit the activity corner at Level 2 to get a colouring sheet that I can work on before the concert (or bring home).
O
Let’s head in for the concert!
INSIDE
THE C O NCERT HALL
We can enter the concert hall 30 minutes before the concert starts, to get ready to watch the concert.
We have a digital ticket that will tell us what our seat number is, and which door to use. The concert hall has two sections: the ‘Stalls’ at Level 2, and the ‘Circle’ at Level 3.
To get to the ‘Stalls’, we can use the staircase or take the lift to Level 2. To get to the ‘Circle’, we can take the lift to Level 3.
O
O The nearest toilets are on Levels 2 and 3, near the lifts. We can use the toilet before entering the concert hall, or anytime during the concert. The nearest nursing room is at Basement 1, accessible via stairs from the Atrium at Level 1.
To get into the concert hall, we have to wait for the usher to scan our ticket. We can take a programme booklet and an orchestra guide from the table outside the concert hall.
O
These will help us learn more about the concert and instruments we’ll see onstage.
CONCERT HALL
This is what the inside of the concert hall looks like. If I need a booster seat to see the performance better, there are some available at the entrance. If I need help to get to my seat, the ushers will be able to guide us.
STAGE
There is a stage at the front of the concert hall, that the orchestra will perform on. We can go to the front to see the musicians warm-up, but we should return to our seats when the concert is about to start.
1. During the concert
This concert presents the classic fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood – except this time, Roald Dahl’s feisty Little Red is no pushover! The orchestra will perform music by composers, Julius Fučík, Paul Patterson and Georges Bizet. The actors move in and out of stage by the stage doors and may also come through the audience seats.
2. Conductor
The person that stands in front of the orchestra is the conductor, Nathanaël. He will wave his arms and baton to tell the musicians the beat of the music and how to express the music.
3. Orchestra
The group of people that are onstage, and in front of the conductor, are musicians who play musical instruments. They will play the music I hear today. Together, they form the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
CALM CORNER
Sometimes, the music may get loud. If the music gets too loud, I can cover my ears for a while, or go to the Calm Corner outside the concert hall. When I feel better, I can go back into the concert hall.

THE C ONCERT
After the concert ends, we will leave the concert hall. If too many people are leaving at the same time, we can wait in our seats for the crowd to clear first.
The actors will come out for a post-concert meet-and-greet at the foyer. There, we can take pictures with them or ask them any questions. The activity corner and Instrument Petting Zoo will reopen after the concert.
O
See you at the concert!
