September 2024, Week beginning September 9

Hello Team, This week, PRISM is brimming with valuable insights. Look inside for information on Grand Rounds at all our academic institutions. The AAP is focusing on trauma-informed care, an essential aspect of providing compassionate and effective support to our patients. Additionally, our Chapter has partnered with VMAP to offer a QI opportunity centered around substance use and abuse, aiming to enhance our approaches and interventions in this crucial area. I hope everyone is settling in well as the new school year gets underway. While the return to school brings excitement, it also ushers in an increase in mental health concerns. Percita Ellis, our VP and Rural Health Champion, has shared some thought-provoking information on the risk and protective factors influencing our children and adolescents. This is a timely reminder of the importance of understanding and addressing these factors in our practices. Remember, there are valuable resources available to support our efforts. VMAP provides state-level assistance, while the national 988 hotline offers critical support for mental health crises. As we approach Suicide Prevention Week from Sunday, September 8, 2024, to Saturday, September 14, 2024, let's remain vigilant and proactive in our roles. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of the children and families we serve. Thank you for your continued dedication and hard work. “Be the change you wish to see in this world.” -Mahatma Gandhi
