September 2024, Week beginning September 2

Dear VA-AAP, This time of year is always filled with excitement and anticipation, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to reflect on the importance of staying healthy as we come together in our school communities. One of our top priorities this year is to ensure that our children remain healthy and safe. The reality of many students returning to school is that they will be in closer contact with their peers than during the summer months. This underscores the importance of prevention and maintaining good health practices to keep everyone safe.

Our commitment to this is exemplified by Erin Brickley, our Immunization Chair, highlighted in this week's Member Spotlight. Erin has been a cornerstone in leading our chapter’s efforts on numerous immunization initiatives. As we approach Labor Day, celebrated on the first Monday of September, we also have the opportunity to reflect on its significance. Labor Day honors the hard work and contributions of workers who have built this country and highlights the labor movement's enduring impact. For our children, Labor Day offers valuable educational benefits: Inspiring Future Leaders: Understanding the dedication of workers can encourage children to think about the role they might play in the future and inspire them to strive for change and leadership. Family Time: Labor Day marks the end of summer and provides a perfect opportunity for families to come together and spend quality time. It’s a moment to cherish and enjoy one another’s company before the new school year picks up pace. Appreciating the Value of Labor: This holiday can also help children grasp the importance of work and how it contributes to the well-being of society. It’s a chance to instill a sense of appreciation for the efforts of others and the role each person plays in our community. As we move forward into this school year, let’s remember the importance of keeping our children healthy, both physically and emotionally. I encourage all of you to take proactive steps in health and wellness, and to support each other in making this a successful and enriching year. “Be the change you wish to see in this world.” -Mahatma Gandhi
