On Sunday, February 2nd, residents of Wyandotte and the greater Downriver region gathered at the PRCU Hall for the City Club Chili Cookoff. The event, hosted by American Legion KELLY STEC Post 447, celebrated MAYOR PRO the winners of nine TEMPORE clubs’ individual competitions. The city finals saw seventeen victorious chilis placed head-to-head in an adjudicated championship. Members of the public were also welcome to sample the toptier chilis and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Championship for a $5 entry fee. While all chilis at the event were worthy competitors, Tim Jakobowski, representing the Downriver Marine Corps League, took home first place and the people’s choice championship, with Debbie Orman (PLAV Post 74)
and Kelly Terry (American Legion Post 447) rounding out the top three spots. In addition to the chilis, the cookoff featured a number of raffles and auction items, including signed Lions memorabilia.
Nearly 250 people gathered for the fourth annual event, established in 2021 as a response to the difficulties of fundraising and gathering together SEE COOKOFF, Page 7
