Southgate VFW invites public to remember POW/MIA veterans DAVE GORGON The public is invited to remember military veterans who were prisoners of war or missing in action on National POW/ MIA Recognition Day at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9283 in Southgate. The event will honor those who were held captive and returned from war as well as those who remain missing from past conflicts. “All branches of service live to the ethos, ‘Leave no one behind,’” said Southgate VFW Commander Bill King. “The soldier depends on the person ahead of you, your flanks and the soldier behind you. “The American people have demanded the elected government move mountains to gain release of all POWs and the full accounting of all missing in action over the last seven wars of our nation.” Nationally, the third Friday in September is recognized as POW/MIA Day, a time to remember the sacrifices of prisoners of war (POW) and service members who are missing in action SEE VETERANS, PAGE 4
