Christian Rossi, the owner of Roosevelt Lanes in Allen Park, said has golfed in “hundreds” of fundraising and charity golf outings. He said the Riverview Highlands Invitational on June 16 was the “best” of them all. “Everything was great,” said Rossi, who was a guest in the foursome of Jim Woolford, owner of the Secret Recipe restaurant in Taylor. “The course is in fabulous shape – the best I’ve ever seen the greens. The food, the drinks, right down to the gift prizes they give out -everything was first class.” Riverview Highlands staff has been receiving rave reviews since the event, which raises money to spend on capital improvements at the city-owned golf course. Over the past several years, the city has invested in key renovations at the course, improving landscaping, irrigation and cart paths. There is a new fleet of golf carts, new equipment designed to keep the greens and fairways immaculate and enhancements
to the pro shop building, including a year-round indoor practice facility. “The Riverview Highlands Invitational has hit the epitome of perfection,” said Riverview Mayor Andrew Swift. “Golf Course Director Mike Kettler and Assistant City Manager Jeff Dobek and their staff have done another yeoman’s job on putting this together. The condition of the course reflects the work by staff and the investment by City Council: perfect. The greens were fast and the fairways were in great shape.” Many of the golfers and sponsors were vendors who contribute to the day-to-day operations of Riverview Highlands and the Riverview Land Preserve. “The money derived from the sponsors go directly to pay the capital improvement fund note,” Dobek said. “They give back to the golf course they do business in.
