iverview Mayor Andrew Swift’s first State of the City Address is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Arnaldo’s Banquet Center, 18275 Quarry Road, Riverview. The Mayor plans to discuss major projects, programs and initiatives that have occurred over the past year in the city and talk about those that are on the horizon. The event will be presented by the Rotary Club of Southgate. Tickets are $60 per person. Table sponsorships are $400 for eight tickets. A luncheon will

be served. All proceeds benefit the Rotary’s local scholarship fund. Rotarians plan to present college scholarships to students at Riverview Community High School and Gabriel Richard High School. Swift, who has been Mayor for seven years, had hoped to hold a State of the City in previous years, but the plans were derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic “We have so much on our plate that we want to let the community know what we’re doing, especially this year,” Swift said. Topics will include an update on the land preserve expansion, details of a new gas plant contract and such special events as the city’s Memorial Day ceremony, a larger Summerfest, the third annual golf invitational and a new concert series planned for the Riverview Highlands golf practice

facility – plus much more. Swift said he plans to recognize a number of businesses for their participation in the community SWIFT and in the school systems. “This will be our first one and hopefully it will become an annual event,” the Mayor said. “I’ve come to enjoy speaking in front of people and getting out the real truth of what’s going on.” Swift said he hopes the partnership with the Southgate Rotarians will lead to the formation of a Rotary Club in Riverview.
