I broke my arm at the corner near the convenience store and the little woodchip park in Bronte, where I used to live. It is 2011 and I am seven years old. I’m scootering with unbelievable velocity down the footpath. There are two runners in front of me and I have it in my little head that I simply must overtake them.
The path is filled with fluttering blossoms, falling catkins fly past the curtain. I bid farewell to spring, yet still ask spring; is there any way to take away this sorrow? In Singapore, where eternal summer persists throughout the year, there is no such thing as spring. Where, then, did Lau Gong’s sorrow stem from?
