During the shutdown, maintenance works are completed to ensure the longevity of the Aquatic Centre and to help prevent larger, more costly problems from occurring in the future. This year's shutdown has been extended in order to complete work related to the Brennan Park Recreation Centre renovation project.
WHY DOES THE POOL CLOSE FOR ANNUAL MAINTENANCE EACH YEAR?
• Complete preventive maintenance on all areas of the Aquatic Centre – the pools, steam room, hot tub, change rooms and mechanical areas.
• Inspect for damage and/or regular wear and replace parts as required.
• Complete planned projects including major repairs or required upgrades which require turning off operating systems.
• All three pools will be drained and routine maintenance will include scrubbing and cleaning the tiles and grout, checking for broken or damaged tiles, grates and filters.
• Routine preventive maintenance on boilers, pumps, HVAC systems.
• Inspections and (if required) repairs on play equipment.
WHY IS IT COMMON FOR POOLS
AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR?
Historically customer usage decreases in September as many people are getting back into their regular routine after summer vacationing.
The water table also plays a major role in this decision. The water table is traditionally at the lowest level after a hot and dry summer. A lower water table allows for safer conditions when emptying the pool which will ensure less impact on the pool basins.
Aquatics programs and lessons will resume on October 11.
While the upgrades at Brennan Park Recreation Centre continue, there will be various impacts throughout fall. Please be aware that entry points and access to different areas may change as work proceeds. A new customer service area is currently under construction, and the south and pool lobbies are anticipated to allow for provisional occupancy in September. For the most up to date information please check squamish.ca/rec or our social media accounts.
Renovation impacts will affect arena and skate shop access throughout fall. Please be aware that entry points may change as work proceeds. For the most up to date information please check squamish.ca/rec or our social media accounts.
The arena at Brennan Park Recreation Centre provides ice time for hockey, figure skating, skills training and leisure skating. Drop in for a public skate or choose a quiet time to supervise and support your skater-in-training. Skate rentals are available upon arrival for adults, children and youth.
