Stimulants and Safety Strategies Stimulants (e.g. cocaine, meth, ecstasy, Adderall) continue to impact Native communities. From 2019 to 2021, meth was involved in about 82% of AI/AN fatal overdoses in Oklahoma.
Stimulants can have negative effects, including: Dangerously elevated body temperature (i.e., overheating) Increased cardiovascular risks Panic attacks Hostility
Paranoia Psychosis Violent behavior Seizures Dehydration
Polydrug use makes stimulants more dangerous. Polydrug use is taking more than one type of drug at once. It can be particularly dangerous and unpredictable. Taking stimulants with downers like alcohol, benzodiazepine, or opioids can place the body under extreme stress and lead to overdose.
