Additionally in 2024, AI/AN ranked 2nd in the rate of new HIV cases. The good news is STIs are preventable. Many STIs can be cured and all can be treated.

STI’s pass from one person to another through unprotected vaginal, oral, and anal sex. HIV and Hepatitis are the most common STIs that are passed through blood contact via open sores, cuts, or drug injections.
STIs can be transmitted if the same condom is used more than once. New condoms should be used for every new encounter. After sex, toss the condom, and get a new one.
MOTHER TO CHILD
Pregnant people can pass an STI to the baby during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.
Some STIs can be spread through intimate physical contact like heavy petting, though this is not very common. Herpes and HPV are the most common STIs that are transmitted through skin to skin contact.
