Who Was Peter Spronk?

PeterSpronkwasaDutchmultihulldesignerandbuilderbestknownforpioneeringtheconstructionoflarge,high-performancesailingcatamarans intheCaribbean,especiallyinthe1970sand1980s.HemovedtoSt.Maarten(NetherlandsAntilles)wherehefoundedaboat-buildingoperation, helpingputtheislandonthemapasahubforadvancedmultihulls.

In theearly1970s,Spronk began buildingcustomcatamaransin SimpsonBayLagoon, St.Maarten.HisbusinessLanseairproducedsomeof the earliestperformancecatamaransintheregion.

He partnered with Malcolm Maidwell (a charter skipper and woodworker) in this venture, bringing together design innovation and practical craftsmanship.
