Training Sessions Agility Beginners Monday evening 7.00 – 8.00 p.m. Obedience -Intermediate & Advanced Tuesday l0.00 – 11am (9.30-10.30am if temp above 30) & Thursday evening 7.30 – 8.45 p.m. New Beginners 8 week Course-commences first Thursday evening of each month @ 7.30pm.(Dogs not needed that night) February to October Wet Weather: If it has been raining for a few days check the Blue Mountains Oval Closure Hotline 47805617 after 3.00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, or check the BM City Council Website. Why Teach Your Dog Tricks? When you bring a dog into your home he or she should become a part of your family. Training and spending time with your dog will help develop a closer bond. Dogs love learning and they love spending quality time with their human families. We need to put down our mobile gadgets, turn off the TV and turn our attention to them so that training is fun and without distraction. Sassafras Lowrey author of Tricks in the City 2019 (Mango Publishing Group) believes that trick training is something that every dog and their carer can get involved with. Trick training can and will strengthen the relationship you have with your dog, your dog will develop a deeper trust and a co-operative spirit.
Trick training is a great way to have fun with your dog and brings you great pleasure. Learning tricks is confidence- boosting for both your dog and yourself Trick training is especially helpful in building confidence for dogs who are reactive or anxious (Lowrey 2019) Trick training is seen as essential in helping dogs navigate our busy urban worlds. Trick training is extremely mentally stimulating to a dog. It only takes a few minutes a day of practice together to teach your dog a trick.
Trick training is something you can do in your own homeunlike other doggy sports that often require expensive heavy equipment. You can practice trick training in your lounge room, in your backyard, or on your daily walks. Lowrey (2019) believes that trick training should be a part of socializing a new puppy or a new dog entering a new family. Trick training can promote muscle tone and strength training for dogs of all ages.
Everyday we’re teaching our dogs, whether we recognise it or not it’s a huge responsibility. The most important thing with trick training is consistency and having fun.
