This class focuses on new ways to interact with your 1 & 2-year olds, fun activities and new sensory and social experiences. District Services Center Thursdays, 9:45-11:30 a.m. September 15 - May 18 EAGER EXPLORERS (Birthdate: September 1, 2019 - August 31, 2020) Maximum: 10 children Temper tantrums, demanding and full of energy - these are common traits of terrific twos! Your two year old is testing you and his/her world. Explore and find out why this is a positive stage in your child’s development. Parents will separate from children for a portion of class for parenting time. Sibling care is available. Cost: Page 8, Section A. Centerview Elementary Wednesdays, 9:45-11:30 a.m. September 14 - May 10 PRESCHOOLERS AND PARENTS (Birthdate: on or after October 31, 2019) Maximum: 10 children Come join this class if your child isn’t quite ready for regular preschool or has a September or October 2019 birthday. This class, with both parent-child time and parent discussion time, will begin the school year as a typical ECFE class on the first day of the week. Starting in November, a second day of class (children only) will be added. Monthly tuition is prorated for the entire school year. EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION Interest-Based Classes NATURE BUDDIES (Ages 2.5-7 years) Maximum: 10 families Engage your child’s wonder and curiosity about nature in this three session series. Live animals, lessons by the naturalist and outdoor activities will enhance the learning each week! Please dress appropriately for the weather. During a portion of each class period, parents will meet with a family educator to discuss topics of interest. The class is designed for preschool through age 5, but younger children are welcome. Cost: $50/child per session Mondays, 1-2:15 p.m. at Springbrook Nature Center, 100 85th Ave. NW, Fridley Session 1: Signs of Autumn, September 12 - October 10 Session 2: Signs of Winter, January 9 - February 13 (no class 1/16) Session 3: Signs of Spring, March 6-April 17 (no class 3/13 & 3/20) LET’S EXPLORE STEAM (Ages 2-5 years) Maximum: 10 families Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math - Be ready for some hands-on STEAM learning! Parents and children will explore all five areas together throughout the session and see how things work. Building on a child’s natural curiosity, we investigate and experiment, so be ready to get messy, be amazed and think creatively! No sibling care available, younger children are welcome. IMAGINE THAT (birth-5 years) Maximum: 10 families Imagination allows children to practice real-life skills and encourages vocabulary and creative thinking. For 75 uninterrupted minutes, parents and children will participate together in creative learning activities. Registration is required. Siblings in kindergarten are welcome to also register for class. No sibling care available. Cost: Page 8, Section B. District Services Center Mondays, 6-7:15 p.m. September 19 - May 8 LITTLE EXPLORERS (Ages 2-5 years) Maximum: 10 families Young children’s natural curiosity and dynamic imaginations can lead to exciting and meaningful learning opportunities. These 4-week non-separating sessions give children and parents time to explore a specific theme together with friends. No sibling care available, younger children are welcome. Specialty Class - for SLP staff only LITTLE PANTHERS (birth-6 years) Maximum: 10 families Just for district staff! This class is exclusively for the moms, dads and grandparents among our SLP staff and your very own little learners. EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION Free ECFE Class for English Learners PARENTING ACROSS CULTURES (for parents with a child ages 2-5 years) English-immersion class will help parents and young children practice their English skills and help prepare children for kindergarten. Participants will share their home languages and culture. All adults MUST be able to speak some English. Once a week, there will be a separating time for parents to meet with a family educator while children continue to learn and play in the classroom. EARLY CHILDHOOD FAMILY EDUCATION Cost for 2022-2023 Programs PAYMENT INFORMATION: Our goal is to provide affordable, quality programming for all Spring Lake Park Schools families. Class fees are based on your total family income. Payment for class and sibling care must accompany registration. No Spring Lake Park Schools resident will be turned away because of an inability to pay the listed fees. Class fees may be reduced or waived. All payments will be confidential. GUARANTEED AFFORDABLE! Use your gross annual household income to determine the suggested fee for each class. Include the fee amount in the space provided online. Registration Details • ECFE classes are open to all families with children from birth through pre-kindergarten. Parent(s)/legal guardian(s) must participate with their young child(ren). • You will be put on a waiting list if the class you want is full. Class openings do occasionally become available. • ECFE welcomes all families, including adults and children with disabilities. All school buildings are handicapped accessible. If special accommodations are needed, please let us know at the time you register. • Registration will remain open until the classes are full.

Refund/Cancellation Policy • Before the session begins, a full refund is issued for cancellations (minus a $5 or 10% processing fee whichever is greater). • Refund after attending the first class: *If paid in full – 75% of the fee paid *If paid in half – 50% of the fee paid • No refund will be given after the second week of class • Class fees will not be refunded for classes canceled due to weather or family illness/sick days. • ECFE reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment. Full refunds will be given.

PRESCHOOL We offer 3- and 4-year-old preschool programs September-May. Preschool prepares children for kindergarten by incorporating literacy, math, science, social studies, art, social/ emotional development, and physical development into its curriculum. Preschool is aligned with the SLP kindergarten program. PARENT AWARE PRESCHOOL The Spring Lake Park Schools’ Preschool Program has received the highest possible rating - four out of four stars - from “Parent Aware,” an organization that measures best practices identified by research that help children succeed.

DISCOVERY DAYS CHILD CARE (FULL DAY OR PARTIAL DAY) This program offers kindergarten readiness for your child and child care while you work. • Flexible scheduling options to meet the needs of your family. This program offers a pre-kindergarten experience for families interested in Spanish Immersion. • Children have a great capacity for second language comprehension at this age. Children in this class will become comfortable hearing Spanish spoken and will begin to understand phrases and directions in Spanish. • Students who attend Spanish Immersion class will have the opportunity to learn their preschool skills and begin to use the Spanish language.

Families must apply for the following free preschool classes. Once eligibility has been determined, additional details with the locations and times will be communicated.

K-Readiness Preschool (five days per week, half day) For children going to kindergarten in 2022 who are learning English or whose family qualifies by income. Funding from the state of Minnesota makes this free class possible. School determined by neighborhood boundaries.

Early childhood screening is required for entrance into kindergarten. EARLY INTERVENTION Tracking your child’s development during the early years of life is important. Minnesota’s Help Me Grow program offers information and resources for parents of newborns to 5 years old. If you have concerns about your child’s development, you can complete a referral form. Spring Lake Park staff will contact you directly to discuss your concerns and next steps.

IS YOUR CHILD REGISTERED ON THE CENSUS? Please make sure that your baby, toddler or preschooler is registered on the Spring Lake Park Schools census. It will ensure that you will receive early childhood mailings, will be notified of early childhood screenings, and the elementary school in your area will be expecting your child when it’s time for kindergarten. If you have moved to/within Spring Lake Park Schools, changed your phone number, or had a new baby, you will need to update the census. Call 763-600-5018 to register on the census.

EARLY CHILDHOOD ADVISORY COUNCIL Parent input is essential to the success of our programs and the Early Childhood Advisory Council is a highly-valued resource. This group of interested Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and Preschool parents helps to plan and coordinate special events. They also help set the direction of the program and advocate for early childhood. Joining the Advisory Council is a wonderful opportunity to enhance and support early learning in Spring Lake Park Schools. Contact our office if interested.
