I Am Pissed Off, New Jersey’s newest rap duo, Ori Pinn’23 and Jack Nilsen’23 sat down for an interview with me. From Hoboken, NJ, they released their first single, “Funny Face Freestyle”, a year ago. How was this duo formed?
Ori Pinn: Jack and I, we’ve known each other for a minute, probably like kindergarten. I Am Pissed Off was originally an Instagram account titled “Ori just wants to have fun” I created a while back. Then in February 2020, I brought it back and changed the name to “I Am Pissed Off”. I reached out to my best buddy, Jack, and was like “Hey do you want to join me on this?”
Jack Nilsen: I remember this a different way. I remember you posting on your story looking for other admins and I swiped up and you asked me a stupid question then gave me the password. So I joined, started posting and our followers grew. How did you guys become musicians?
Ori Pinn: We were trying to cook up an album for a little bit, we were always talking about it, “What would be funny is if we made a song”, so we made the song
“Funny Face Freestyle”, which was last year.
Jack Nilsen: After a Prep event, we went back to your house and cooked up some beats. The “Funny Face Freestyle” comes from an infamous video of me telling Ori he’s won the Funny Face challenge.
Ori Pinn: Then we were talking, we were like “yo, we should make a full album”.
Jack Nilsen: We both started making more music and we came up with the ideas. September 18th, the first day of Hanukkah, we released our album “ Upset Tummy, Crazy World”. (available on SoundCloud)
Do you guys look to any artists as inspiration?
Jack Nilsen: Probably Beastie Boys, very obvious answer.
Ori Pinn: Beastie Boys, Tribe (called Quest)
Jack Nilsen: Van Gogh, he’s just such a visionary. He cut off his ear, he was just passionate.
Ori Pinn: Loverboy.
Anything else you want to say?
Jack Nilsen: Look us up on SoundCloud and YouTube.
Ori Pinn: We have an album coming out sooner than later, we’re almost finished.
Jack Nilsen: We have one single out from the album right now, Youtube: I Am Pissed Off: Hot Mouth.
Jones: They might not seem like your conventional rap duo, but they are pushing the boundaries and exploring the unknown in this genre. Check them out on SoundCloud and Youtube.
editor’s note: On Sundays Jack goes to Church and Ori starts homework. Both like dinosaurs.
On April 19th, the Freshman class visited two art museums, attended a Broadway musical and watched a dance performance.
