RIST Hybrid Satellite/Internet: Ku-Band without Rain Fade! Satellite is the ideal way to distribute content to geographically distinct locations. With C Band going away, the natural transition is to Ku/Ka-Band – but these bands are subject to drops and rain fade! Rain fade can be fixed by augmenting the satellite delivery with the Internet. This way, you get the best of both worlds. And, since the Video Services Forum (VSF) has published an open set of Technical Recommendations to do this, you can get that without vendor lock in. Cobalt Digital, one of the leading members of the RIST Forum, has implemented and demonstrated VSF TR 06 4 Part 7 in the PACIFIC 9992-ENC encoder, the PACIFIC ULL-DEC (now available with a satellite demodulator) and 9992-DEC series decoders, and (coming soon) in the SafeLink Gateway.
