Summer Time in Our City: Summer is a time for family, fun, and community connection. Whether you’re long-time resident or new to Weston, I encourage you to explore all that our City has to offer this time of year. From vibrant parks and open green spaces to an incredible variety of youth camps, enrichment programs, and athletic activities, Weston truly has something for everyone. The Sports and Activities Directory offers a full calendar of events, camps, and activities that cater to all ages and interests. These programs provide not only safe and structured environments for our youth during their school break, but also opportunities for learning, growth, and connection. Be sure to check out the listings in this directory—you may just discover a new hobby or favorite way to spend a summer afternoon. Summer in Weston also means we’ll soon be celebrating one of our community’s most cherished traditions—our 4th of July Hometown Celebration! The holiday events kick off on Thursday, July 3, with Weston’s Hometown Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration featuring an evening of live music, interactive games, festive photo stations, and craft booths. On Friday, July 4, the day begins early with the Fourth of July 5K Run/Walk and then rolls right into our beloved morning parade through Weston Town Center. It’s a reminder of the unity and patriotic pride that define our city, and I look forward to seeing you there. Safety: Of course, with the excitement of summer also comes a renewed focus on safety. Please take extra care in the heat, particularly when spending time outdoors. Stay hydrated, apply sunscreen, and keep an eye on one another, especially our children and seniors. If your summer includes travel plans, don’t forget to register for our Vacation Watch service through the Broward Sheriff’s office Weston District, which provides peace of mind while you are away. Connect: Finally, summer is a perfect time to connect—with nature, with your neighbors, and with all the opportunities our City has to offer. s a mother raising my children here in Broward County, I understand the importance of keeping our streets safe for everyone—especially our kids. Bicycles and electric bikes have become a popular way for people of all ages to get around, but with this growing trend comes the need for awareness and responsibility. One of the biggest concerns we’re seeing is the confusion between electric bicycles and electric motorcycles. Let’s be clear: electric bicycles are legal and must follow Florida’s bicycle laws, but electric motorcycles—those that can exceed 28 mph or 750 watts—are not electric bikes. They are illegal on public roads and sidewalks. These vehicles pose a serious risk to riders, pedestrians, and other motorists. At the Broward Sheriff’s Office Parkland District, our deputies are working hard to ensure the safety of our community. We are:

Educating riders on Florida bicycle laws Conducting safety presentations at schools and community events Enforcing traffic laws to keep our streets safe for cyclists, pedestrians, and drivers

We all play a role in safety. Whether you’re a parent, a student, or an avid cyclist, understanding and following bicycle laws is crucial. Here are a few important Florida bicycle safety rules:

Bicyclists under 16 must wear a helmet. It’s the law!

Bicycles must have a white front light and a red rear light when riding at night. Cyclists must ride in the same direction as traffic and obey all traffic signals. Electric bikes must follow the same rules as traditional bicycles. Our goal is to keep Parkland a safe place for families to enjoy outdoor activities. ountry Isles Elementary has had an exciting and eventful season filled with enriching activities that brought students, staff and community together in celebration of learning, inclusion and future goals. We kicked things off with an incredible Special Olympics event in collaboration with Manatee Bay Elementary. Over 100 students proudly participated, supported by 50 dedicated Play Pals volunteers assisting in various centers. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Susan Divine, our inspiring Inclusion Champion, and Christina Gaskill from Manatee Bay and the ESE team from Country Isles and Manatee Bay for their hard work organizing this meaningful experience. The day was a celebration of perseverance, community and inclusion. Next, our Academic Fair lit up the campus with student work on full display. One of the highlights was the interactive Wax Museum, where students brought historical and notable figures to life, explaining their impact while dressed in character. The evening was packed with family-friendly activities, including “Are You Smarter Than a 2nd Grader?”, a ladybug release, science experiments from Mad Science, math centers provided by Mathnasium, art exploration with

Back in October, we held our annual Student Council elections. It was inspiring to see our students rise to the occasion—crafting thoughtful speeches, presenting their ideas to classmates, and participating in a democratic voting process that encouraged responsibility and school pride. “I felt excited! I was prepared; I had my speech ready to go. I was hoping that I would get the job so I could help my friends in school. Once I got it I was very happy” shared Abby Aviles Since then, our Student Council members have been actively involved in several initiatives that reflect our values of compassion, empathy, and service. We began the year with the Harvest Drive, collecting food and essential items for families in need. Our students enthusiastically contributed, showing just how big their hearts are. “When I helped for the Harvest Drive it felt so good to help families in my community. I was so happy, and proud of doing the right thing,” said Kimberly Corona.

Every class had the opportunity to hear presentations from parents and community partners, offering students a glimpse into a variety of career paths. Students embraced the experience by dressing up as their future profession, sparking conversations and dreams about their goals. In February, our Student Council took part in a special Kindness Campaign in honor and memory by the tragedy at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School. Our students helped spread messages of kindness and unity throughout the school—writing notes, decorating hallways, and encouraging acts of compassion. It was a powerful reminder of how small gestures can create a ripple effect. “I gave my friend Francesca a Kindness Coupon because she is always nice to me. I felt good to give back to my friends when they are kind to me,” said Isabella Hampson Also, together with our school Deputy Bermudez, our students organized a cereal box collection for the homeless, gathering over 3,000 boxes to donate to shelters and food banks. These small acts of giving add up to a big difference, and we couldn’t be prouder of the initiative and spirit our students continue to show. “It was amazing to see how many cereal boxes we collected.
