Fall is in the air, and a new school year is underway! I hope everyone had a relaxing summer and is ready for a wonderful new school year. Our schools are excited to welcome students back, and as families settle into new routines, our communities come alive with youth sports, recreation programs, extracurricular activities, and family fun. I am excited to share some very special personal news. After more than 20 years with the Sports & Activities Directory as Creative Director, I am honored to take on a new role as the Publisher of the Central Broward Sports & Activities Directory. I want to sincerely thank Anina for her guidance and support throughout this transition. She has built an incredible resource for local families, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue the tradition she created. I look forward to building on the strong foundation she established. Having grown up in both Davie and Plantation, I have a special connection to the communities we serve. I have had the privilege of watching our communities grow and seeing firsthand how important it is for families to have a resource connecting them with local sports, activities, programs, businesses, schools, and events. As the new school year begins, it is also time for fall sports registration and extracurricular activities. Dear Cooper City Residents,

Summer is drawing to a close, and I hope you have been able to relax, make special memories with your loved ones, and prepare for the exciting season to come. With classes getting back in session, I wish all our students, educators, and families a safe and fulfilling new school year. July’s National Park and Recreation Month was a special time to recognize our own Parks and Recreation Department, who never fail to embody the true spirit of Cooper City. From diligently maintaining the fields our kids play on to carefully organizing and delivering special events that never fail to bring joy to our community, our team’s hard work and creativity is truly remarkable. As always, our fall calendar is filled with special events that unite and energize our community. Our memorable season starts with the Mayors’ Chess Challenge on August 29th at the Pool and Tennis Center. Cooper City’s beloved annual Book Swap returns on Friday, September 25th where book enthusiasts can search for new adventures at the Community Center. The Parks and Recreation team will accept books through September 18th at the Community Centen. Even if you don’t have a book to swap, come out and enjoy the free event! The fun continues into October, with registration for the Halloween Home Decorating Contest opening on October 1st. Also, start marking your calendars for our NEW fall event taking place on Saturday, October 24th: Cooper City Fall Fest. And let’s not forget, registration for the Fall Garage Sale begins October 21st for the event which will take place on November 21st at Flamingo West Park. Please remember, event dates and locations may change due to unforeseen circumstances, so please keep an eye on www.CooperCity.gov/Calendar for the latest updates. As our children head back to the classroom and families settle into new routines, I hope everyone enjoys a safe, successful, and memorable year. Our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is committed to creating opportunities that bring families together while helping children stay active, healthy, and engaged. Youth sports are one of the best ways for children to build confidence, develop friendships, learn teamwork and discipline, and enjoy the simple fun of being part of a team. With the excitement surrounding this past summer’s World Cup in the United States, interest in soccer continues to grow, and we’re excited to welcome players ages 3 through 14 to our Winter Soccer Leagues. Throughout the year, we also offer flag football, baseball, basketball, and many other programs for participants of every skill level. Whether your child is playing for the first time or continuing a favorite sport, we look forward to seeing them on the field or court. Fall is also one of the most exciting times of the year in Davie, with community events that celebrate learning, service, creativity, and the traditions that make our Town so special. We’ll begin the season with our annual Mayor’s Chess Challenge on Saturday, October 3, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Pine Island Multipurpose Center. Whether you’re an experienced player or just learning the game, chess is a wonderful way to sharpen critical thinking and problem-solving skills while enjoying time with friends, neighbors, the Mayor, and Town Councilmembers. Garden enthusiasts of all experience levels are invited to our annual Gardens Matter Day on October 10, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Community Gardens located at Robbins Preserve Park. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn from local gardening experts through hands-on workshops and discover new ways to make your own garden thrive. On Saturday, October 24, families are invited to enjoy our free Halloween Happenings celebration featuring live entertainment, festive activities, costume contests, and plenty of Halloween fun for all ages. On November 11 at 10:00 a.m., we will gather at Veterans Park for our annual Veterans Day Ceremony as we honor the brave men and women who have served our nation. It is always a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together and express our gratitude for their sacrifice and service. Since parking at Veterans Park is limited, complimentary shuttle service will be available from the Davie Arena at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds. If you’re looking for unique holiday gifts, don’t miss our annual Holiday Craft Show on November 21 and 22 at the Davie Arena. More than 100 talented local artists and crafters will showcase their handmade creations, along with live entertainment, demonstrations, children’s activities, and delicious food and beverages. We’ll wrap up the season on December 5 as the Town Council, Vice Mayor, and I gather with our community for one of Davie’s most cherished traditions, the Holiday Lighting of the Greens at Bamford Sports Complex in Pine Island Park. From the excitement of Santa’s arrival riding on a Town fire truck and the lighted horse parade, to live performances, games, and family activities, it’s a wonderful evening that truly captures the spirit of the holiday season. As you can see, there’s something for everyone this fall. Whether you’re interested in community events, swimming, fitness, youth sports, recreation classes, or simply spending quality time with family and friends, our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is proud to offer opportunities that help make Davie such a special place to live. Our Parks and Recreation Department has planned a wonderful lineup of events and programs to bring neighbors together, promote active lifestyles, and celebrate our vibrant community. One of the season's highlights is our Family Fall Festival on October 17 at

Volunteer Park. Families can enjoy a day of festive fun featuring local vendors, children's activities, a haunted house, and a pumpkin patch. Music lovers can also look forward to the return of our Rock the Park concert series, which resumes on November 6. Bring your lawn chairs, gather your friends and family, and enjoy great live entertainment at Pine Island Park. For students looking to make a difference, our Volunteer Orientation for high school students will be held on September 19. Volunteering is a rewarding way to give back to the community while earning valuable service hours by assisting with our special events throughout the year. This fall also brings a full schedule of sports programs for all ages. Whether you're interested in swimming, football, basketball, or tennis, there are opportunities to stay active, learn new skills, and have fun. Adults can also get in the game through our recreational leagues and the many classes offered at our community centers. he City of Plantation is celebrating a prestigious honor after being named the Municipal Partner of the Year at the 2026 Broward County Public Schools Community Involvement Awards. The award recognizes a municipality that has demonstrated an exceptional partnership with and commitment to schools, students and the school community. Plantation was recognized at the Broward County Public Schools Community Involvement Awards ceremony held as the 2025–2026 school year came to a close. For Mayor Nick Sortal, the recognition reflects the dedication of the many city employees, elected officials and community members who make supporting Plantation’s schools a priority. “The passion shown by our elected officials, first responders, staff and volunteers has become contagious,” Mayor Sortal said. “The overarching theme we convey to our schools is, ‘We’re here for you.’ After all, they’re our residents.” That commitment is backed by action. Plantation elected officials, police officers, Parks and Recreation staff, firefighters, library staff and Educational Advisory Board members collectively devoted approximately 3,000 hours to serving local schools. A City Invested in Its Students Plantation’s partnership with its schools reaches well beyond traditional community support. Mayor Sortal highlighted programs such as Reading Buddies, which encourages elementary school students to practice reading by sharing stories with stuffed animals. At the high school level, a partnership with Junior Achievement provides students with the opportunity to earn their plant operator licenses, connecting classroom learning with real-world career opportunities. City departments and community partners also supplement school curriculum, introduce students to different careers and help young people develop confidence, leadership and teamwork skills while encouraging civic engagement. The city’s school resource officers contribute in ways that extend beyond campus safety. They also serve as mentors, coaches and

counselors, helping build positive relationships and contributing to a supportive school climate. Expanding Opportunities for Plantation’s Youth The city continues to expand its efforts to meet the changing needs of local students. Recent initiatives include a multigenerational community garden, providing students with an opportunity to earn service hours while connecting with people throughout the community. Plantation has also introduced activities such as Teen Hang Time and Trivia, creating additional opportunities for young people to connect, participate and engage with their community. These efforts build upon Plantation’s longstanding partnership with local schools, including initiatives supporting literacy, celebrating educators and meeting student needs through book drives, teacher recognition programs and campus support efforts. Celebrating Community Partnership More than 800 attendees gathered at the 2026 Broward County Public Schools Community Involvement Awards to celebrate the exceptional contributions of families, individuals and community organizations whose dedication continues to enrich student success throughout Broward County. For Plantation, being named Municipal Partner of the Year is a reflection of the city’s ongoing commitment to its students and schools—and the belief that a strong community begins with investing in its young people. Under the leadership of Mayor Nick Sortal, Plantation continues to demonstrate that partnership is about more than showing up for special events. It is about building lasting relationships, creating opportunities and making sure students know their community is behind them. arvest Drive Inc. has been a nonprofit for the last 34 years and is dedicated to serving families in need throughout our county by collecting and repurposing essential household items that might otherwise go unused. Through the generosity of community members, local businesses, schools, and organizations, we gather donations of toiletries, household goods, clothing, linens, and other everyday necessities. These items are then carefully sorted, organized, and distributed to individuals and families facing financial hardship, food insecurity, housing instability, and other challenging life circumstances. Many families struggle to afford basic necessities that most people take for granted. While food assistance is often available through various programs, essential items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, cleaning supplies, bedding, towels, and clothing are rarely covered by assistance programs. Our organization helps bridge that gap by ensuring that these critical items reach those who need them most. We believe that every donation has value and every item has the potential to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. By repurposing gently used clothing and linens, along with new and donated household products, we not only provide practical support to families but also promote environmental sustainability by reducing waste and extending the life of usable goods. Throughout the year, we partner with schools, social service agencies, community groups, and local businesses to identify families in need and coordinate distributions. Our volunteers work tirelessly to collect, sort, and pack the donations, ensuring that

s Mirror Lake Elementary opens its doors for another exciting school year, we are delighted to welcome our new principal, Mrs. MiMi Jensen, to our school family. With a passion for education, years of leadership experience, and a heart for helping children succeed, Mrs. Jensen is excited to begin this new chapter with the students, families, and staff of Mirror Lake. Mrs. Jensen's path to education was anything but traditional. Before stepping into the classroom, she enjoyed a successful career as an office manager. Although she excelled in that role, she realized that her true calling had always been teaching. Ever since she was a young girl, she dreamed of becoming an educator and making a difference in the lives of children. That lifelong passion inspired her to make a career change—one that has positively impacted countless students throughout Broward County. Throughout her educational career, Mrs. Jensen has taught students in kindergarten through fifth grade, giving her a deep understanding of elementary education and the unique needs of children at every stage of learning. She later served as a math resource teacher and literacy coach, where she worked alongside teachers to strengthen instruction and improve student achievement. Her leadership journey began at Bennett Elementary, where she served as assistant principal for three years. She then spent the next seven years as assistant principal at Croissant Park Elementary, helping build a positive school culture while supporting students, teachers, and families. This year's theme, "A Culture of Excellence," reflects our commitment to high expectations, academic achievement, student leadership, and personal growth. Every day, our faculty and staff work to create an environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. One of Seminole's signature programs is DECAL (Division of Enhanced Communication and Law), an innovative program that develops students' skills in communication, debate, leadership, and legal studies. DECAL students consistently excel in debate tournaments and mock trial competitions across Broward County, demonstrating exceptional critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork while earning recognition for their outstanding performances. Seminole Middle School also provides students with opportunities to get a head start on their high school education by offering a variety of high school credit courses, including Algebra, Geometry, Law Studies, Debate, Sociology, Spanish, and American Sign Language (ASL). Our Innovative Programs and Career and Technical Education pathways continue to provide students with authentic, career-focused experiences. This year, eight students earned internships with the Broward County Public Schools Information Technology Department, including four in Cybersecurity and four in Artificial Intelligence. A highlight of the year was our CyberPatriot team’s historic achievement, under the direction of Hermes Abrantes. In its first full year of competition, the team placed 6th nationally out of more than 4,700 teams, earning one of only 11 spots at the National Finals in Washington, D.C. Competing with just four members instead of the typical six. Our students impressed veteran coaches and competitors with their exceptional performance, discipline, and determination. Their success established Nova as a rising leader in cybersecurity education. Our Cybersecurity program continues to produce outstanding results. During the 2025–2026 school year, Nova students earned more than 300 industry

students to challenge themselves academically while exploring future career and educational pathways. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom. Seminole students have a proud tradition of athletic achievement, competing with determination and sportsmanship in a variety of sports. Our wrestling program has established itself as one of the area's best, earning District Championships for two consecutive years. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our student-athletes, coaches, and supportive school community.
