As we start the new year, I would like to wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2026! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful holiday season, celebrating with family and friends and taking time to appreciate every moment. This February–April issue focuses on Spring Break Camps and a preview of Summer Camps. Be sure to check out the purple section for all your camp needs. It’s a great way to get a head start on enrolling your young ones. We feature a wide variety of camps, including art, chess, music, soccer, and programs that offer a mix of activities. Camps are a fantastic way for kids to make new friends and create lasting memories. They also provide the perfect opportunity to try new things, develop skills, and challenge themselves in exciting ways.
As always, the City of Pembroke Pines has a slew of great events happening this quarter. I’m especially fond of the Kindness Initiative, which celebrates wellness, health, and fitness as a community. After all, being kind to someone is one of the easiest, and most meaningful, things you can do. Another favorite is Taste of Pines, where many of our amazing local restaurants come together for an evening of delicious sampling. Even better, the proceeds benefit the Pembroke Pines Charter Schools, making it a fun night for a great cause. There’s also the new Beats & Bites Concert Series, featuring a different music style each month. Runners can participate in the Pines Light Up the Night 5K Run, though it’s just as enjoyable for spectators. In March, we also have Relay for Life, raising money for cancer research. And then there is Honor Flight Homecoming, if you’ve never experienced it, it’s truly a must-see. Be sure to check our Events section for details on these and many more events.
Don’t forget to explore our Hometown Businesses & Services section, where you’ll find many of the local businesses you rely on every day. From a trusted shoemaker to repair your favorite pair of shoes, to bakeries, banks, chocolate shops, churches, ice cream spots, insurance providers, restaurants, and so much more. It’s all right here in your community.
Lastly, we encourage you to support our advertisers and let them know you saw their ad in the Sports & Activities Directory. Some even offer special discounts when you mention the magazine. Our advertisers are the lifeblood of this publication, and their support is what allows us to provide it to the community free of charge.
All my best to you,
Linda

Dear Friends,
As 2026 begins, I look back on the past year with great satisfaction as we all should. 2025 was a year of setting goals and planning for our city’s future. We made decisions together and your City Hall is honoring those choices. The City of Pembroke Pines remains one of the finest places in the entire United States to live and raise a family, do business or recreate, shop or retire. That’s who we are, and our pride flows from that basic acknowledgement.
But like every mature city, our infrastructure continues to feel the ravages of time. Time waits for no one, and these concerns must be addressed. However, we are firmly on the path to addressing these needs, just as you asked us to, mindful of containing taxes. While this approach may slow our progress, it will not stop the city’s forward movement. Parks will be renovated, traffic flow improvements are underway, and important flood mitigation efforts are moving forward. That work is proceeding with a plan that calls for no tax increase. Citywide communications are also being enhanced to keep you better informed about what matters most in our community. Additionally, we are developing a clear strategy for recycling because protecting our environment is more important today than ever before.
For the tenth consecutive year, Pembroke Pines reduced taxation rates or kept it the same. Few cities can make that claim. We shall begin preparing the next city budget, this time with the assistance of a Citizen’s Budget Commission — an initiative I was honored to propose. While we aim to avoid any tax increases this coming year as well, it’s just too early to say. What is certain is that there remains much important work to be done in Pembroke Pines.
Each of us should feel incredibly fortunate. There are millions of people across our nation and around the world who would trade places with any one of us, if they could, simply for the opportunity to enjoy the quality of life we sometimes take for granted. We truly are very lucky people, and we each have much to be thankful for as we move toward a brighter future.
We in Pembroke Pines confront challenges directly. We do not run away from them. We focus on problem-solving rather than politics; values that have guided Pembroke Pines since our incorporation 66 years ago. I am proud to say those principles remain strongly embedded in the city we call home.
Our most important asset is the dedication of our residents who want their City Hall to succeed because they love this community and want to see it thrive. For that, on behalf of every police officer, firefighter, parks employee, utilities worker — every member of our city workforce who contributes daily to the quality of life we enjoy — I say thank you. I also thank my colleagues on the City Commission, our City Manager and his outstanding staff, our attorneys, accountants, and financial advisors. Most of all, I thank you—the residents of Pembroke Pines for making our city great, bold, beautiful and unafraid. May we all have a great year ahead.
I would like to invite the Pembroke Pines community to take part in a new event beginning in 2026, the City of Pembroke Pines is hosting Pines Light Up the Night 5K Run on February 28th at West Pines Soccer Park. This fun, neon-themed evening race kicks off at 6:30PM and benefits the Pembroke Pines Charter Schools Foundation. Whether you choose to run, walk, or cheer on participants, this family-friendly event is a wonderful way to stay active, support our local schools, and enjoy community spirit under the stars. Registration is now open, with tiered pricing available leading up to race day. For details and to register, please visit www.runsignup.com/Pines5k. For information on additional events the city will host throughout the year, please visit www.ppines. com/specialevents.
May 2026 be a healthy, prosperous, and fulfilling year for you and your family. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact my office at (954) 450-1020, or email me at acastillo@ppines.com.
Very Sincerely Yours,
Mayor Angelo Castillo City of Pembroke Pines

At Super Aqua Swim School, swimming isn’t just a class — it’s a journey that becomes part of a child’s world. Nestled in the heart of Weston, FL, our school was built with families in mind: a safe indoor pool, warm water all year round, and a team that truly gets kids.
What Makes Us…Us: When you walk into Super Aqua, you’ll notice right away it’s a place built for kids — and run by people who genuinely love what they do. Classes are designed around how children develop, with lessons planned according to age and ability. That means every child is placed where they’ll feel comfortable and challenged, not lost, not rushed.
Our approach blends technique with creativity. We use games, songs, and playful activities so learning feels like fun, not work. This helps kids relax in the water, build confidence, and actually enjoy the process of learning a life-long skill.
A Place That Feels Like Home: Because our pool is indoors, heated to 90°F, and air-conditioned, lessons happen no matter the weather, which means routines stay consistent and kids progress steadily. Parents can watch through big glass windows, catch up on messages in our comfy viewing area, or just take a breath knowing their child is safe and engaged.
Safety and comfort aren’t just features, they’re foundations here. We use advanced water filtration, UV/salt sanitation systems, and maintain a familyfriendly space where kids feel secure and parents feel informed.
Learning Step by Step: Super Aqua’s lessons are organized into thoughtful levels that help kids grow in the water from first comfort to true swimming technique. From the first moments of feeling safe in the pool to learning strokes like freestyle and backstroke, everything is built around gradual growth and real milestones.
A Team That Cares: The school is run by Guilherme and Samara — a husband-and-wife team who are not just owners, but educators and instructors themselves. They’ve spent years building the way Super Aqua teaches, always keeping communication open and honest with families.
A Place in Our Community: Families often tell us they see changes beyond the pool: kids who are braver, more focused, and proud of what they’ve learned. That’s exactly the kind of difference Super Aqua aims to make — one splash, one skill, one confident kid at a time.
Super Aqua Swim School isn’t just a place to learn how to swim, it’s part of our community, part of childhood memories, and a space where kids grow up in the water with confidence and joy.
A Message from the Founders: “When we created Super Aqua, our goal wasn’t to build the biggest swim school — it was to build the right one. A place where children feel respected, parents feel heard, and instructors are supported to do their best work.
Swimming is a life skill, and teaching it comes with a lot of responsibility. We treat every child as if they were our own, and we’re hands-on every day to make sure the quality of teaching and care stays exactly where it should be.
Seeing kids grow in confidence, overcome fears, and truly enjoy the water is what keeps us motivated. That’s what Super Aqua is about.”

At Super Aqua Swim School, our Special Needs Program was designed to offer structure, balance, and meaningful progress, all within one consistent routine. Each session is 1 hour long, divided into two focused parts: 30 minutes out of the pool working on ABA-based therapy, targeting attention, communication, emotional regulation, and readiness skills 30 minutes in the pool, applying those skills through structured swim instruction and water safety. This format allows children to transition smoothly from a controlled, dry environment into the water, helping reduce anxiety and improve focus. The ABA portion prepares the child for the swim lesson, while the water reinforces learning through movement, sensory regulation, and positive reinforcement. Sessions are individualized, predictable, and paced according to each child’s needs. Classes are one-on-one or very small, led by trained instructors working in coordination with ABA professionals. Our goal is to create a supportive experience where children feel safe, understood, and successful, both in and out of the water, while building confidence and essential life skills. J
ust one season removed from winning only two games, the Bengals stunned the AYFL by storming through the league undefeated, finishing a perfect 13–0 and securing the AYFL 7u Super Bowl Championship. But according to head coach Reggie Payoute, the team’s transformation didn’t begin under stadium light, it started months earlier, in classrooms and on practice fields throughout Pembroke Pines.
“All offseason, our players committed to excelling in school first and then on the field,” Payoute said. “I’m so proud of our players and their parents for trusting in our coaches and buying in to the foundation of what we teach at our program.”
That belief system fueled one of the most remarkable turnarounds in youth football. With many first-year players, the coaching staff prioritized patience, development, and fundamentals. The result? The most dominant defense in AYFL history. The Bengals surrendered a jaw-dropping six total points all season, the fewest points allowed by any team the league has ever recorded.
If defense wins championships, speed certainly helps. And the Bengals’ offense didn’t just score—they exploded. Clocking in as one of the fastest and most dynamic units in the league, the group racked up over 250 points, leaving opposing defenses
chasing shadows and turf pellets.
The stage was set for a showdown with the talented Pompano Eagles in the AYFL Super Bowl. But from the opening whistle, the Bengals looked like a team on a mission. Behind a suffocating defensive effort and big-play firepower, Pembroke Pines shut out Pompano 24–0, punctuating their perfect season with a perfect game.
Two young stars shined the brightest on championship day. Achilles Lewis anchored the defense with a performance worthy of Defensive MVP honors, while Rayford Shipman IV—one of the league’s most electrifying young athletes—powered the offense and earned Offensive MVP recognition.
Now, as the confetti settles and the trophies find their place on living room shelves, the Bengals aren’t content with one magical season. Their eyes are already locked on the next challenge: the 8U division, where they plan to chase yet another championship.
If this season proved anything, it’s that belief, hard work, and blazing speed can turn underdogs into legends—and the Bengals are just getting started.

At Panther Run Elementary, learning doesn’t stop when the dismissal bell rings - if anything, it comes alive. Every afternoon, more than 100 students flood into classrooms and outdoor spaces across campus for an hour of hands-on discovery, creativity, and pure joy. Our after-school enrichment program has become one of the most exciting and beloved parts of our school culture, and it’s easy to see why: Panther Run teachers are sharing more than instruction… they’re sharing their passions.
What makes our program truly special is that it’s built from the heart. Teachers volunteer to lead clubs inspired by their own hobbies, talents, and lifelong interests — and kids feel that energy the moment they walk in. From the chesslover who teaches strategy like a grandmaster in training, to the creative spirit who brings arts & crafts to life, to the scientist who transforms a classroom into a lab of curiosity, Panther Run’s enrichment program is powered by educators who go above and beyond.
One of our proudest offerings is the Pre-Vet Program, a unique pathway that mirrors the veterinary track of our feeder high school. Students not only learn about animal care and science, but they also gain early exposure to a field many hope to pursue long-term. The program has sparked real career dreams, especially for students who never imagined they’d get hands-on experience so young. But that’s just the beginning.
Across campus, students can choose from an incredible variety of clubs; each one designed to spark lifelong skills, friendships, and confidence.
Our lineup includes:
• Cooking Club – where measuring, mixing, and tasting become both math and magic
• Chess Club – sharpening focus, patience, and strategic thinking
• Arts & Crafts – for young creators who express through color and imagination
• STEM & Science Clubs – exploring engineering, robotics, and discovery
• Sports & Cheerleading – building teamwork, discipline, and school spirit
• Drama Club – giving students a stage to shine
• Dinosaur Detectives – a favorite among young explorers
• Color Guard – precision, performance, and pride
• Gardening, Lego STEM, and more
With so many options, students find a place where they belong and a passion they can grow.
Families consistently share how these after-school opportunities have helped their children build confidence, make friends, and try things they never would have tried before. And for working parents, the program offers structured, meaningful experiences kids look forward to every week.
Panther Run’s enrichment programs are more than clubs. They are communitybuilders, dream-starters, and reasons families choose our school year after year.

P ines Charter East Campus came alive on Friday, December 12th, as families, students, and community members gathered for one of the most anticipated events of the year — Multicultural Night. The campus transformed into a vibrant global journey celebrating the many cultures and traditions that shape our school community. This year’s theme, “One World, Many Celebrations,” invited guests to explore how people around the world honor heritage, celebrate special moments, and share joy.
In the weeks leading up to the event, each grade level studied a different cultural celebration and created hands-on projects inspired by these traditions. Throughout the evening, student learning was proudly on display. Kindergarteners explored Sweden’s Midsummer, crafting flower crowns that symbolized nature and joy, while fifth graders highlighted Japan’s Children’s Day with colorful koi windsocks representing strength, resilience, and happiness. Guests also experienced displays inspired by Three Kings Day, reflected through artwork of the Star of Bethlehem, and Ramadan, represented by intricate mosque collages honoring reflection and community.
The cafeteria was transformed into an immersive experience representing Africa, East Asia, and South Asia. Diwali tea lanterns hung from the ceiling, casting a warm glow over displays of Japanese getas, koi carp artwork, mandalas, and impressive individual student projects highlighting various African countries. Each piece reflected thoughtful research, creativity, and a deep appreciation for cultural traditions.
The P Building offered guests a journey through several regions of the world. Northern Europe featured a traditional maypole, which kindergarten students joyfully danced around earlier in the day. The journey continued into the Caribbean, where families gathered to enjoy friendly games of dominoes. Latin America came alive with authentic artifacts from Guatemala and the excitement of Mexican piñatas, filling the space with laughter and celebration.
Families enjoyed a variety of cultural food trucks and sampling flavors from around the world while live performances energized the campus. Highlights included lively dancing by Hip Hop Hooray, beautiful vocal performances by the East Campus Chorus, and the powerful rhythms of Mr. Daniels’ FSU Drumline.
The generosity of our school community extended beyond the evening, as donations collected during the event resulted in two large bins of gifts being donated to The Caring Place through the Teen Gift Drive.
The evening carried a magical and uplifting energy, becoming far more than just an event. Multicultural Night was a celebration of unity, learning, and community, showcasing the creativity, curiosity, and respect for diversity that define Pines Charter East Campus. This incredible experience was made possible by the tireless efforts of the entire East Campus staff, with special thanks to Ms. Dina Logan for her dedication and leadership in bringing the vision to life.

Pines Lakes Elementary School continues to shine as a model of leadership, kindness, and community involvement This fall, students, staff, and community partners came together for two meaningful events that reflected the school’s ongoing commitment to character development, civic responsibility, and service learning.
To kick off Red Ribbon Week, Pines Lakes Elementary welcomed Judge Odom from the Broward County 17th Judicial Circuit Court as a special guest speaker. Judge Odom delivered an inspiring message to students about the importance of making good choices, staying drug-free, and building positive relationships. He encouraged students to think about the power of their decisions and reminded them that their future success begins with the choices they make today. His message aligned perfectly with this year’s Red Ribbon Week theme - promoting healthy, positive, and drug-free lifestyles.
Following Judge Odom’s visit, the school’s focus on leadership and community service continued through a powerful volunteer experience with HandsOn South Florida. Members of the Student Council, 5000 Role Models of Excellence, and Safety Patrol represented Pines Lakes Elementary by participating in a large-scale service project that directly impacted children overseas.
Students worked together to prepare meal kits made of rice, soy, vegetables, and
protein - each pack carefully measured, weighed, sealed, and boxed to ensure families around the world would receive nutritious meals. The activity was more than just a project; it was a hands-on lesson in compassion, teamwork, and the joy of helping others. Many students expressed how rewarding it felt to know that their efforts would feed children in need and make a real difference beyond their own community.
Faculty and staff members, along with parents, proudly watched as students demonstrated the Panther Pride values they are taught daily - respect, responsibility, and kindness.
These events reminded everyone at Pines Lakes that learning extends far beyond the classroom and that leadership begins with service to others.
Pines Lakes Elementary extends heartfelt appreciation to Judge Odom for taking time from his judicial duties to speak with students, and to HandsOn South Florida for providing an unforgettable experience in giving back. Together, these moments highlight what makes Pines Lakes Elementary so special - a school community where students are encouraged to lead with integrity, serve with compassion, and always make good choices.

Aubrey, a 12-year-old seventh grader and proud Pembroke Pines resident, has been named the 2025 LPGA Girls Golf Miami Player of the Year, an honor that recognizes not only excellence in golf, but also leadership, character, and commitment to personal growth.
LPGA-USGA Girls Golf is a national youth development program that empowers girls ages 6–18 through the game of golf. The Miami chapter, now celebrating its 10th anniversary is the largest and most active chapter in the country. Aubrey has been a member of the program for the past five years, growing within a community dedicated to building confidence, fostering leadership, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The program is guided by the “Five E’s”: Empower, Enrich, Engage, Energize, and Exercise—a philosophy that encourages girls to dream big, build strong character, and develop life skills through a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment led by positive female role models.
While the Player of the Year honor is traditionally awarded to high school athletes, Aubrey was selected for her exceptional embodiment of these core values. Her recognition reflects not only
her accomplishments on the course, but also her sportsmanship, teamwork, and ability to inspire others. A member of her school’s varsity golf team, Aubrey helped lead her team to a state championship—bringing her signature sparkle to every match with her trademark big bows and high socks.
Beyond golf, Aubrey is known as a truly well-rounded young leader. She is an accomplished musician, playing both drums and bass, and is active in the musical theater community. She has participated in the City of Pembroke Pines theater program and recently starred in a lead role in her school’s production of Annie. A former Pembroke Pines Sweetheart and Junior Miss Pembroke Pines, she has also been involved in the First Tee of Broward program, further demonstrating her dedication to growth, leadership, and service.
Aubrey’s achievements continue to bring pride to the Pembroke Pines community. Her selection as 2025 LPGA Girls Golf Miami Player of the Year celebrates not only a talented young athlete, but a remarkable ambassador for the city, one who exemplifies the values shaping the next generation of leaders.
