From recognizing outstanding educators to enhancing school facilities and expanding student opportunities, we remain committed to building strong connections between our schools and our city.
Recognizing Excellence in Education: At the March 25 Commission Meeting, we proudly recognized two outstanding educators whose dedication has made a lasting impact on students in our community.
Mrs. Tricia Richardson Roberts, Professional School Counselor at James S. Hunt Elementary School, has spent the past nine years supporting students’ academic and social-emotional growth. In addition to her role as counselor, she serves as RTI Co-Coordinator, Volunteer Coordinator, and Site Director for the 5000 Role Models of Excellence program. Her commitment to student success has earned her the distinction of 2025–2026 BCPS District Elementary School Counselor of the Year.
We also recognized Jason Freedman, a Career and Technical Education teacher at Coral Springs High School with more than 19 years of experience. As a leader in technology education, he teaches courses in programming, game development, and digital technology while also serving as Broward County’s Esports Head Coach. His numerous honors include CTACE Teacher of the Year (2025–2026) and multiple Teacher of the Year recognitions at Coral Springs High School. His passion continues to inspire the next generation of innovators.
Celebrating Milestones in Our Schools: We are
excited to celebrate important milestones across our school community. Eagle Ridge Elementary marked its 30th anniversary on April 6, while Coral Springs Middle School celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 9.
Coral Springs Middle School also recently unveiled its newly renovated media center, made possible through the voter-approved SMART Bond Program. This upgrade is part of approximately $21 million in campus improvements designed to enhance safety, technology, and learning environments for students and staff.
Youth Leadership Opportunities: The Coral Springs Youth Ambassador Program continues to provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop leadership skills and engage with their community. Applications for the 2026–2027 school year will be open from May 1 through June 1. Students in grades 10-11 with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to take advantage of this unique experience in civic engagement and personal growth. Apply at CoralSprings.gov/YAP.

As I begin this quarterly letter, it is with a very heavy heart that I must acknowledge the tragic passing of our beloved Vice Mayor of Coral Springs, Nancy Metayer, whose passing has deeply affected our entire community. Nancy was a true light for Coral Springs and unwavering in her commitment to her community. As we grieve the loss of such an exceptional woman, I am reminded through the last five years of covering her at community events, how truly genuine and special she was. I admired her intelligence & compassion. She loved the people she interacted with and it was always evident by her radiant smile.
As the school year winds down, I hope your children had a great year of learning, fun, friendship, and new adventures. I would like to thank all the teachers, volunteers, principals and staff for creating a wonderful, safe and educational environment for our students. Your hard work is truly appreciated. I also want to congratulate all of our All-Star students who made academic, service, musical, theatrical and athletic gains this year. We are so proud of all your achievements and can’t wait to see what you do next.

Dear Parkland Residents,
When we set our minds to achieve something in Parkland, we set our goals, dig in, and we get things done.
From my point of view as Mayor, we have always embraced a certain mindset that brings us together, propels us forward, and allows us to see things clearly – even when it may be a little out of focus and off in the distance.
Over the past 12 months, we have rehabilitated and repaved roads in some of the oldest communities in the City, we have joined the county and the state in transforming Loxahatchee Road, and we will have almost completed a 36-acre park – a historic undertaking, to say the least.
The groundwork for these wins was laid years before that. And it all happened because we dared to dream.
In 2019, Parkland’s former Mayor, who is now State Rep. Christine Hunschofsky, Broward County Commissioner Michael Udine, and members of our current leadership, took steps to approve a land purchase at the corner of Hillsboro Boulevard and Nob Hill Road. Wedge Preserve Park, which features a community center, state-of-the-art covered pickleball court, ninja warrior-style course, and a fishing pier, is now just months from reality.
Parkland also has another dream – one that began in 2022, when we decided to take charge of our destiny and purchase a portion of land that is part of the former Heron Bay Golf course. In the near future, development plans will be underway for The Village, which will provide a small number of premium commercial/retail options for our community. And, as for improvements to Loxahatchee Road, you are not only hearing about it, but you are also living it and driving on it each day, as we round the half-way mark for our northernmost artery.
These projects and improvements will positively impact our life experiences for years to come. I am moved by the work that has been done to mold and shape our community-based, community-inspired future, and I will share more with you in person. Hello Friends and Neighbors!
It is always such an honor to write to our community as your Mayor. This month, however, I write this with a heavy heart as we recently lost an incredible leader with the tragic passing of Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer. Before I share about some upcoming events in our community, I would like to take some time to share about this beautiful soul.
Nancy made history when she became the first Black woman to be elected to the City Commission as well as the first Haitian-American woman to serve on our Commission. Nancy was the brightest light in any room she entered and was always PRESENT. She was a voice for the voiceless and dedicated to sustainability Nancy always came to any meeting very prepared and ALWAYS with a smile. She loved mentoring and always made you feel heard. She was not only my Vice Mayor, but she was a dear friend and she will be missed. Her impact will be forever-lasting and I plan to carry out many of her objectives to the best of my ability. Our City will do everything we can to honor her and help her family through the grief process.
Congrats to all of the upcoming graduates and your parents! On that note, I want to thank all of our teachers for your dedication to all of our children. Our schools and teachers are a huge part of what makes Coral Springs special. For those of you who may be unaware, I have opportunities for your children to become Mayor For The day. It is not a whole day, but usually about 2.5 hours, where I teach the children about government, giving back and take them on a tour of City Hall with one or two other children. They get a Certificate, lots of photos and an opportunity to share their ideas and questions with me. Over the years, I have hosted well over 100 students and it is a great way to plant a seed and make sure your child knows how special they are. In the month of May, we celebrate Mental Health Awareness month. It is a time that organizations like our City and NAMI and MWNA recognize the vital importance of mental health and showcase mental health resources as part of a movement to continue to break the stigma that often surrounds mental illness. Personally, I want to thank everyone who has helped me with the Mental Wellness Networking Alliance (MWNA) over the years and everyone who contributed to the May 9 Mind, Body and Soul Summit, especially Chris Nosowicz. Unfortunately, tragedy also recently struck our community and former Mayor Vince Boccard and his beautiful wife, Terry, with the passing of their son, Nick. Nick was a Dad, son, brother and I knew him for over 25 years. My heart and condolences go out to his family and friends.
Lastly, I want to thank all of our City Employees and volunteers for all of their contributions to our amazing City. I come across many employees regularly who have been with the City over 20 years and they still love it and give it their all daily. We also have many SUPER volunteers like Joe Morera, who are constantly giving of themselves and offering suggestions to improve our City.

S ummer is finlly here! In Parkland, that means sunny skies, lemonade stands, and endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. As your hometown police department, we love this season. Not just for the beautiful weather, but for the chance to connect with our community in ways that make Parkland stronger and safer.
We look forward to spending time at the City’s summer camps and our Cones with the Cops events, where safety lessons come with a side of fun. Even more, we love the simple moments. Playing hoops in your driveway, tossing a football, or sharing a smile and conversation while keeping a watchful eye over the neighborhood. These connections are what make our work meaningful and our community stronger.
Of course, fun comes with responsibility so here are a few quick tips to keep your summer safe:
• Bike Smart: Helmets on, lights at night, and remember to ride with traffic, nt against it.
• Golf Cart Safety: Stay on golf courses, not sidewalks,
and you must have a valid license.
• Water Wise: Never leave kids unattended near pools, canals, or lakes. Floaties are fun, but supervision is essential.
• Heat & Sun: Stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade, and wear sunscreen. Heat exhaustion can sneak up fast, even on the nicest days.
• Hot Cars: Never leave kids or pets unattended in a vehicle. Temperatures can rise dangerously fast. We ’ re saving the best for last – Parkla nd Night Out on Monday, August 3rd, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Pine Trails Park. Join us along with our state and federal law enforcement partners for an amazing handson expo featuring tactical equipment, vehicles, boats, helicopters and the Green Machine. New to a Parkland school? All our School Resource Officersand school staff will be on hand that night to introduce themselves and close out the summer in BSO style.

The Broward County National High School Football Showcase returns August 27th–29th, bringing some of the nation’s top-ranked high school football programs to Greater Fort Lauderdale for a highly anticipated weekend of elite competition and national exposure.
Now in its fifth year, the showcase is presented by Broward Education Foundation, the only 501(c)(3) organization dedicated solely to supporting Broward County Public Schools. The event was created to elevate Broward County’s already strong reputation as a national powerhouse for high school football talent.

CORAL SPRINGS BLAZERS TRACK CLUB
The club offers amateur athletics in track and field (ages 6-18 years old) and cross-country (7-14 years old) for both boys and girls. Sign-ups for cross-country are from July-September and for track and field from November-March. We offer the opportunity to participate and compete in AAU and USATF track and field and cross-country events. Our crosscountry season is from September-December, and our regular track and field season begins in February and ends with the league championship in late May or early June. This is the end of competition for most athletes. The championship track season begins in June and ends with the AAU Junior Olympic Games, which is held during the first week of August every year. Rollerbladers and skateboarders use the park to practice their skills on the various ramps, dips and bowls. Contests and professional demonstrations take place on occasion. On March 24, 2026 the Girl Scout s of Southeast Florida transformed the Coral Square Mall into the ultimate K-pop themed sleepover party during Mall Madness, a highenergy, all-night celebration fille with shopping, entertainment and unforgettable memories. From late night to early morning, Girl Scouts immersed themselves in an action-packed overnight experience that included performances by LYNX Dance Company, Florida International University’s K-Pop Dance Team; a workshop led by LYNX dancers teaching the girls K-pop dance moves; karaoke, music and entertainment by Digital Vibez; a cosplay costume contest; and craft activities including Year of the Horse bookmarks, Sensu Folding Fans, Nekomini Cat Girl Headbands, Norigae Lucky Charms, Origami, K-Pop Cup Sleeves and more.
Girls at every level from Brownies through Ambassadors had the opportunity to earn grade-level specificbadges. Badges earned were Letterboxer for Brownies; Detective for Juniors;
Cadettes explored Manga (Japanese comics) and created their own as part of the Comic Artist badge; Senior Science of Style girls explored the growing influenceAsian cultures have on American culture over the last 20 years; and Ambassadors completing the Cheers for Every Body badge learned about the intersection of self-esteem, style and stereotypes.
Girl Scouts also enjoyed special access to their favorite stores with exclusive shopping opportunities at Build-A-Bear Workshop, Miniso, Bath & Body Works, Hot Topic and more. Meanwhile, food vendors including Jelek Candies, HaagenDazs, Churromania, Gregor y’s Coffee, Espresso Yourself and more kept the energy high with delicious treats.

It has been a wonderful month at Park Trails Elementary as we are nearing the end of what has been a fantastic school year! We continue to take an “all hands-on deck” approach with everyone chipping in to provide additional small group instruction through our “WIN” block, push-in groups, and academic camps.
We are in the midst of recognizing our ASD students and families throughout the month of April with a themed week of activities and a celebratory Autism Acceptance walk at the end as a cumulative wrap! Other activities we held during this month included a door decorating contests and poster/art competition. We can’t wait to see all the amazing, finished products!
We hosted two wonderful events with our Spring Art & Music Showcase. During this event families get to see many of our students’ artwork displayed by our phenomenal art teacher, Ms. Campbell and from the fantastic Meet the Masters program! Plus, our intermediate
and primary chorus along with our violin ensemble will perform under the guidance of our wonderful music teacher, Ms. Del Sol!
Coach Schiff is also leading the charge for the Kids Healthy Heart Challenge from April 13 through May 1st. Some of the prizes including sliming Coach, Mr. Policastro, and Mr. G! Broward Education Foundation (BEF), in proud partnership with Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) and Bridge2Life, has been awarded a transformative $1.1 million grant from Helios Education Foundation to support Postsecondar y Success for All — a bold initiative designed to strengthen post-secondary readiness and access to college and career pathways for more than 24,000 students annually in grades six through 12.
This three-year initiative will directly serve 9,682 BCPS high school students and indirectly benefit an additional 14,000 BCPS middle school students, with a focused effort to support youth from underserved communities. The program will expand access to accelerated coursework, deliver one-on-one college and career advising, provide ACT/SAT preparation and host Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshops, college bootcamps and family engagement nights across 80 District schools.
“This investment is a game changer for our students, particularly those who have historically faced barriers to higher education,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “We are grateful to Helios Education Foundation for supporting our District’s vision for postsecondary success. • Providing College and Career Readiness Support: Providing support districtwide to build the academic skills needed to perform well on the ACT and SAT, key components in college admissions, scholarship eligibility and eligibility for access to advanced college credit coursework.
• Enhancing Personalized Advising and Mentoring: 11th and 12th grade students and families will receive one-on-one advising on college applications, financial aid (including FAFSA), scholarships, and career exploration.
• Supporting Postsecondary Transitions: The initiative will guide high school seniors and their parents/guardians through the college entry process via college fairs, FAFSA workshops, application support, and sustained mentoring. Federal Student Aid has again granted unprecedented permission for Bridge2Life to participate in early access to the 2026/2027 FAFSA Beta 1 testing beginning in August 2026. By addressing both academic and socio-emotional barriers, the project will strengthen student readiness, foster a more inclusive college-going culture across the District, and use real-time data
to continuously refine support and improve outcomes.

Sagemont Preparatory School delivered an outstanding performance at the recent NASA-hosted Aerospace Engineering Competition, earning top honors among a competitive field
Sagemont Prep’s High School aerospace engineering team secured rst place in the Mercury Division Design Challenge, a rigorous engineering event that challenged students to design and construct a fully functional mailbox prototype inspired by a space mission. The project was completed through Blue Origin’s Club for the Future Postcards to Space program, requiring students to translate conceptual design into a fully functional, engineered solution.
Judged by a panel of experts, teams were evaluated on engineering design quality, functionality within strict material
constraints, and their ability to clearly communicate and defend their process. Sagemont Prep students distinguished themselves at every level, demonstrating a high degree of technical skill, creativity, and precision.

The third quarter was filledwith a wide range of activities and events. Students completed mid-year assessments to measure their progress compared to the beginning-of-year benchmarks. Based on these results, teachers, support staff, and administrators are providing targeted instruction for both remedial and enrichment groups to support continuous daily improvement. Additionally, afterschool camps in language arts, math, and science have been launched to further strengthen student learning and achievement.
The PTO organized a Spring Scholastic Book Fair, which included a family night where parents and children could
shop together. They also hosted family nights at Wing’s Plus, FKA, and Chipotle to support local businesses while raising funds for the school.
The 4th grade students enjoyed an amazing fieldtrip to SeaWorld. They had a great time watching the animals perform and riding exciting attractions. The students also enjoyed delicious food from a variety of restaurants and explored the many shops. It was truly a wonderful day!

CAMP GTA/GERRI’S TRAVEL ADVENTURES
Give the gift of daily travel for your child during the summer and throughout the year on school days off! We provide daily field trip outings aboard a motorcoach bus for Summer Camp, Thanksgiving Camp, Winter Camp, Spring Camp and Teacher Workdays. Developed for children ages 5 through 13. Children experience daily adventures out and about with their friends’ enjoying waterparks, arcades, trampoline parks, Top Golf, bowling, movies, etc. In the summer we travel, 4 days a week and we stay on site one day a week. On this day, the campers have an opportunity to participate in theme related activities such as dress up days, dance parties, game truck, Nerf Challenge, Robotics, Street Hockey, Dodgeball, crafts and so much more. We are located at the Event Center in Margate, yet we do have a pickup location at the Magnolia Shoppes on Westview Drive and University Drive in Coral Springs. Creativity, imagination and fun will converge this summer at The Coral Springs Museum of Art Summer Art Camp, a full-day program for children ages 5 to 12 that is now accepting registrations. From June 8 through July 31, young artists can explore new ideas, make friends, and build confidence through hands-on artmaking daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This year’s camp will feature a reimagined structure that includes free beforecare from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., optional aftercare from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. for an additional fee and flexible, weekly registration. Campers spend their days creating art with a variety of materials, learning new techniques, and experimenting in a supportive, welcoming environment. This summer experience the MAGIC of the STAGE! Campers enjoy fun classes in acting, singing, dancing and more, culminating each session with a full-scale production in which EVERY camper participates and performs. Campers are separated into age-appropriate groups participating in fun & exciting curriculum designed and facilitated by their group’s instructors. They travel throughout the facility to attend classes learning their group scenes, songs, and dances for the session’s musical.
