The club’s current four-match winning streak at home matches the third-highest total in club history, and two behind the franchise record of six (July 28-September 13, 2013 and April 26-July 13, 2014).

Sounders FC’s win over Portland extended the club’s current unbeaten streak to 10 games (8-0-2) dating back to a 2-1 road win over Colorado on July 4. The run is the longest spell without a loss this season, and surpasses the second-longest unbeaten streak in club history (6-0-3 from May 28-July 16, 2011). The longest unbeaten streak in club history is 13 games (6-0-7) from June 21-September 23 of last season. 2018 CASCADIA CUP Sunday marked the third and final Seattle-Portland matchup of the 2018 regular season, but it only the second to count for the 2018 Cascadia Cup standings due to an imbalanced MLS schedule this season. Because Seattle faces Portland three times and Vancouver just twice, the Cascadia Cup Council came out with a statement in March that stated the “result of the Sunday, May 13th match between the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders will not be considered toward awarding the Cascadia Cup.” Seattle now has a three-point lead in the 2018 Cascadia Cup standings, as its six points from three matches sits ahead of Vancouver and Portland at three points apiece. Sounders FC can clinch the trophy in its last remaining match in 2018 Cascadia Cup play agianst Vancouver on September 15.

Sounders FC midfielder Nicolás Lodeiro’s form has coincided with the club’s current run of unbeaten matches this summer, recording his eighth and ninth assists of the season on August 18 in a 5-0 drubbing of LA Galaxy.

The Cascadia Cup formally started in 2004 by the biggest supporters groups for each of the three clubs - Emerald City Supporters, Timbers Army and Vancouver Southsiders. The competition began when all three teams were members of the USL First Division and involves all three clubs, save for 2009 and 2010, when it was between the Timbers and the Whitecaps due to Seattle moving to MLS. In 2011 all three sides were in the MLS for the first time and the competition has existed in top division since. His brace on July 21 vs. Vancouver marked the second multi-goal game for Lodeiro in MLS play, following a brace in a 3-0 win vs. Colorado on October 22, 2017. Seattle Sounders FC forward Clint Dempsey on Wednesday announced his retirement from professional soccer. The 35-year-old concludes a historic 15-year career that saw him play for the New England Revolution, Fulham FC, Tottenham Hotspur and Sounders FC, in addition to the U.S. Men’s National Team. The former United States captain was named the U.S. Soccer Male Athlete of the Year three times and is tied for the most goals scored by an American in international play. Dempsey departs Seattle a champion, helping the club to the 2014 Supporters’ Shield and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, 2016 MLS Cup and 2017 Western Conference title. A seven-year veteran of the English Premier League, Dempsey holds the record for most goals by an American in the Premiership and ranked fourth in voting for the 2011-2012 Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year after finishing tied for fourth in the Premier League with 17 goals for Fulham. He is also the only American to score in three consecutive FIFA World Cups (2006, 2010, 2014) and is currently tied for the USMNT all-time record with 57 career international goals. On top of his accomplishments in Europe and with the National Team, Dempsey finishes his MLS career with 79 goals and 45 assists in 209 appearances (including postseason play). “After a lot of thought, my family and I have decided that this is the right time for me to step away from the game,” said Dempsey. “I’d like to thank all of the teammates, coaches and support staff that I’ve worked with throughout my career. At the international level, Dempsey has scored 57 goals for the USMNT, tied with Landon Donovan for the most in U.S. history (in 16 fewer appearances), while his 141 international caps rank third all-time in USMNT history, while his 21 assists are third. He made his first international appearance on November 17, 2004 versus Jamaica, then scored his first goal on May 28, 2005 against England. Dempsey made his first FIFA World Cup appearance in the 2006 tournament in Germany, where he made two appearances and scored a goal against Ghana in the Group Stage. SOUNDERS FC WEEKLY NOTES DEMOCRACY IN SPORTS In conjunction with the Alliance Council, Seattle Sounders FC last week announced that the voting process for its second-ever General Manager Vote is preparing to launch. A unique feature in American sports, the ability for fans to vote to retain the club’s general manager is an important part of the Rave Green’s culture, stemming back to the team’s MLS launch. As the club prepares for the second GM Vote in team history, it wishes to share relevant information about the procedure with both media and fans. HISTORY OF THE VOTE In 2008, as a condition of joining the Ownership Group of the newly-minted Seattle Sounders FC in Major League Soccer, Drew Carey (pictured below with the 2016 MLS Cup) championed the concept of Democracy in Sports - a model the team adopted and made one of its guiding principles. Under this belief, fans of the team are empowered to have a real, tangible say in the organization. The club feels that its fans have the right to determine the overall course of the team that they so passionately support. “It was important for me to do [the GM vote], because that’s the only reason I wanted to be a part of the Ownership Group in the first place,” said Sounders FC Owner Drew Carey. “If they would have said, ‘no, we don’t want to do that,’ I wouldn’t have been a part of the Ownership Group. It was very important to me. There’s no other fan-base in the country that can do that for any other sport - have the opportunity to get rid of the GM if they don’t like what’s going on. This is really like a failsafe system for when things are going badly. It’s to keep the fans from divorcing the team and to quit participating with the team. It’s better than writing a letter to the editor, it’s better than to quit buying tickets, it’s better than complaining on a message board.” Carey continues, “This is the strongest message you can send to a team. It’s your voice and your club. Get out there and vote.” One of the most visible pillars of Democracy in Sports is the GM Vote, which allows members of the team’s Alliance the opportunity to cast either a vote of retention or a vote of no confidence every four years of a general manager’s time in office. In 2012, the club held its first-ever GM Vote, with Owner and then-General Manager Adrian Hanauer retained with a 96.3% approval rating and 13,775 votes cast by Alliance members. Current General Manager & President of Soccer Garth Lagerwey was hired prior to the 2015 season, marking 2018 as his fourth full season as GM and providing an opportunity for fans to vote on his retention. WHO CAN VOTE Alliance Members are granted voting privileges. The Alliance was established in 2008 and it exists to offer its members a voice in their club. By purchasing season tickets, fans are granted membership in the Alliance and receive all associated benefits. This includes full-season package holders, half-season package holders and suite holders. ABOUT THE VOTE Eligible fans are able to vote either yes or no in regard to the retention of the club’s general manager. A vote of yes signals retention, while a vote of no signals a vote of no confidence. The vote is weighted, such that each Season Ticket Member holds as many votes as seats owned. For example, a fan with four season tickets then has four votes to cast in the GM Vote. Account holders with multiple seats may designate their additional votes to others through a specific process and should speak to their account representative to do so. If additional votes in an account are not specifically designated, then all votes in an account are cast in the same direction as the primary vote for that account. This year’s GM Vote opens on September 19, with voting running through October 17. HOW TO VOTE Alliance members can vote online at SoundersFC.com/GMVote or in person at CenturyLink Field during the team’s home matches on September 19, September 29 or October 8. The club’s bylaws require that 40% of eligible Alliance members participate in the GM Vote for the final tally to be considered valid, so those with votes are highly encouraged to take part in order to ensure that the final vote can be official. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT Given that the aforementioned 40% of eligible Alliance members cast a vote, the results are then tallied. In order for a vote of no confidence to move forward, it must be chosen by the super-majority of no less than 67% of all votes cast. Results of the vote are to be announced at the club’s Annual Business Meeting in November.

SOUNDERS FC HISTORY HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER After leading Sounders FC to one of the most improbable comebacks in MLS history, Brian Schmetzer was named the club’s second-ever Head Coach on November 2, 2016. Upon assuming the interim manager role on July 26, 2016 following the departure of Sigi Schmid, Seattle sat in ninth place in the Western Conference with a 6-12-2 record. Under Schmetzer, Sounders FC finished the season with an 8-2-4 record and a fourth-place finish, becoming the first team in MLS history to make the MLS Cup Playoffs after having 20 or fewer points through the first 20 matches of the season. He is the first coach in MLS history to lead his team to the MLS Cup title after assuming the Head Coach position midseason. In his first full season as Sounders FC’s Head Coach, Schmetzer led Sounders FC to another great season in 2017. After finishing tied atop the Western Conference with Portland in the regular season, the Rave Green cruised through the Western Conference playoffs and advanced to the club’s second consecutive MLS Cup, this time falling to Toronto FC 2-0 at BMO FIeld. A longtime Sounders FC assistant and former USL Sounders manager, Schmetzer entered his eighth season as Top Assistant Coach in 2016, a position he retained since December 22, 2008. He is one of the Puget Sound soccer community’s most recognizable and respected figures after playing and coaching for the region’s top professional franchises since 1980. Schmetzer served seven seasons as the Head Coach of the Sounders’ United Soccer League’s First Division club from 2002-2008 before making the jump to MLS. He guided Seattle to USL-1 championships in 2005 and 2007, and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal advancements in 2007 and 2008. Schmetzer has 14 years of coaching experience and a 15-year background playing at the professional level. He was a member of six championship teams during that span. In addition to the two USL championships, his teams also twice won the Commissioner’s Cup for the league’s best record (2002, 2007), while also qualifying for the playoffs six of seven years. He was chosen USL-1 Coach of the Year in 2002 after going 23-4-1. The Sounders were league runners-up in 2004. His overall regular season record in the USL era was 10057-41. Previously, he was assistant to former United States National Team defender Fernando Clavijo with the Seattle SeaDogs from 1996-1997. Seattle won the Continental Indoor Soccer League title in 1997.

A Seattle native, Schmetzer was coached by his father, Walt, as a youth. His team won seven out of 10 state youth championships. He signed with the Sounders’ North American Soccer League franchise following his graduation from Seattle’s Nathan Hale High School in 1980. He played three seasons as a midfielder for Seattle before going to Tulsa for the final NASL season in 1984. Schmetzer signed with the San Diego Sockers in 1984 and played seven seasons in the Major Indoor Soccer League with San Diego (1984-1988), Tacoma (19881990) and St. Louis (1990-1991). He was a member of San Diego’s MISL championship teams in 1985, 1986 and 1988. He returned to Seattle for the Sounders’ inaugural A-League season in 1994 before completing his playing career with the SeaDogs from 1995-1996. In 1985, Schmetzer played on loan to FC Seattle, scoring twice in a 2-1 friendly win over Brazil’s Santos. While with Tacoma and FC Seattle, Schmetzer’s teammates included younger brothers Andy and Walter. Schmetzer and his wife Kristine have six children between them.

MELIA BACK IN GOTY CONTENTION

Sporting Kansas City continued their excellent form this last weekend when the side defeated Minnesota United FC at Children’s Mercy Park to clinch their fourth consecutive victory, coming on the back of a five-game winless skid in MLS action. The current streak marks the first time Sporting KC has posted four straight victories in a single MLS season since the start of the midway through the 2014 MLS campaign, when Peter Vermes’ side beat Montreal, Columbus, LA and Toronto from July 12-26, 2014.

Sporting KC goalkeeper Tim Melia continued his excellent form with his fourth straight clean sheet in the 2-0 victory over Minnesota United FC at Children’s Mercy Park on Saturday night. It’s Melia’s MLS-leading 11th shutout of the season and surpasses his career-high of 10 from 2017, when he was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. The shutout streak marks the first time Melia has posted four straight clean sheets in his career during a season. The 376-minute shutout streak - stretching from the 74th minute of the 3-2 loss to FC Dallas on July 28 to present day - is the team’s longest in 2018 and the fourth longest in MLS this season

Even more remarkable, all four of Sporting KC’s consecutive wins have come via shutout, as this streak marks the first time in club history that Sporting has posted four shutout wins in a row in a single season. The only other time Sporting KC has managed that feat (with a caveat), was from 2011 to 2012, when Sporting also won four games without conceding a goal - the last two games of the 2011 season and the first two matches of the 2012 campaign.

Sporting KC became just the sixth team in league history to post four straight shutout wins in a single season on Saturday night, with NYCFC the only other side to do reach that achievement in 2018. Saturday’s clean sheet was Melia’s 37th in the regular season, tying legendary goalkeeper Tony Meola for second in the club’s all-time charts.

The recent five-game winless skid was the longest Sporting KC has had since the tail end of the 2017 season to the start of the 2018 campaign, when the club went seven games without a win - including a MLS Cup Playoffs Knockout Round defeat at the Houston Dynamo - starting with a 1-0 defeat at home against Vancouver on September 30, 2017 and only coming to an end with Sporting claimed a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park on March 10, 2018.

SINOVIC DRIVES SKC WITH DEFENSIVE EXCELLENCE

Sporting Kansas City defender Seth Sinovic has re-entered the lineup over the last four games as the side has posted four consecutive shutouts for the first time since posting five in a row in 2013. Sporting KC are 7-1-2 when Sinovic starts in the MLS regular season in 2018, compared to 6-5-4 when he doesn’t. The Leawood, Kan. native was named to the MLS Team of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s shutout.

With 12 points taken from their last 12 available, Sporting KC remains firmly in the playoff hunt in the MLS Western Conference with 45 points - seven ahead of Saturday’s opponents Seattle for second in the Conference. Sporting also has the best goal difference in the Western Conference with +17, and has scored the third most goals in the West with 47 - only trailing the LA Galaxy’s 49 and LAFC’s 50.

Since Sinovic was acquired by Sporting KC in a trade with the New England Revolution in May 2011, the side has gone 80-46-44 when he starts for a 60.0 win percentage while posting a 0.89 goals against average and 60 shutouts in 170 starts, compared to 34-3227 record for a 51.1 win percentage while posting a 1.38 goals against average and 30 shutouts in the other 93 games he hasn’t started.

SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE

Sporting Kansas City heads to the Pacific Northwest this weekend to take on Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field on Saturday afternoon. It’s a battle of the two most in-form teams in MLS, as Sporting KC enters the match having won four straight via shutout, while Seattle has won their last seven - matching Sporting KC’s MLS record of seven straight regular-season wins in the post-shootout era set in 2012.

Sinovic has a special partnership with close friend and teammate Matt Besler, as the two players hold down the left side of the Sporting KC defense. Sinovic and Besler played together locally in Kansas City growing up before reuniting at SKC when Sinovic was acquired via trade in 2011. Since that trade, Sporting KC has gone 71-32-34 when both Sinovic and Besler start a match alongside one another in the MLS regular season for a 64.2 win percentage, compared to 42-40-36 for a 50.8 win percentage when either one or neither start for the club in the last eight campaigns. When the two start together in 2018, Sporting KC is an unbeaten 7-0-2 while conceding just five goals in those nine games (0.56 goals against average) while the duo share the field with each other.

Ilie Sanchez gave Sporting KC the lead from the penalty spot midway through the first half, only for Will Bruin to notch an opportunistic equalizer just moments before the interval. Cristian Roldan briefly gave the Sounders the lead in the second half before Graham Zusi notched his second goal of the season with a dinked finish over Stefan Frei to salvage a point.

CROIZET ENTERS, CROIZET SCORES

The two sides last played one another at CenturyLink Field just over a year ago, with Seattle claiming a narrow 1-0 victory on August 12, 2017. Clint Dempsey headed home Jordan Morris’ cross in the first half for what proved to be the only goal of the game, as Sporting KC rotated its squad heavily after beating San Jose in a penalty shootout during the U.S. Open Cup Semifinals just three days earlier.

Sporting Kansas City midfielder Yohan Croizet made an instant impact when he appeared off the bench at halftime during last weekend’s 2-0 victory over Minnesota United FC at Children’s Mercy Park. The Frenchman replaced Felipe Gutierrez at the interval and within 94 seconds had given his side the lead when he received a pass from Johnny Russell, spun his man and fired into the near post for what would be the game-winning goal.

Seattle leads the all-time series with Sporting KC in the regular season with a 8-5-4 mark, though it once stood at 7-1-2 before their grip of the series began to loosen with Sporting KC’s current 4-1-3 run since since the start of the 2015 season. Sporting KC is also 2-4-2 against the Sounders at CenturyLink Field and lost a heartbreaking match at the venue in the 2016 MLS Cup Playoffs Knockout Round.

Croizet now has four goals on the season, including two in regular-season play, after joining the club from KV Mechelen in Belgium in the offseason. Saturday’s goal was his second game-winner to go along with his stunning volley that won the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16 bout against FC Dallas 3-2 on June 16. Croizet has also added two assists on the season as he finds his footing in the United States and MLS.

RUBIO RUMBLES ON

Sporting Kansas City forward Diego Rubio continued his torrid form this last weekend with yet another goal in the 2-0 victory over Minnesota United FC at Children’s Mercy Park. Rubio ended the month of August with a good shout for Player of the Month, having been involved in six of Sporting KC’s eight goals throughout August with four goals and two assists.

RUBIO, RUSSELL & SALLOI SET TO REP NATIONAL TEAMS

Rubio was tied as the league’s top goals scorer during the month and currently boasts a stat line that places him among the most efficient attackers in MLS. Boasting seven goals and five assists in 520 minutes of MLS action this season, Rubio continues to lead the league with 1.21 goals per 90 minutes. Similarly, his 58.3 scoring percentage (seven goals on 12 shots) is the third-best single-season mark in MLS history. The 25-year-old has 14 goals and seven assists in 1,860 regular-season minutes for Sporting KC since joining the club in 2016, averaging a goal or assist every 89 minutes on the field.

Rubio earns his first call-up to the Chilean National Team since 2011 when he earned three caps as an 18-year-old. Chile is heading to Asia to take on Japan on Sept. 7 at the Sapporo Dome in Sapporo, Japan, and South Korea on Sept. 11 at Suwon World Cup Stadium in Suwon, South Korea.

A trio of attacking players for Sporting Kansas City will depart the country following Saturday’s game against Seattle Sounders FC at CenturyLink Field. Diego Rubio, Johnny Russell and Daniel Salloi have each been called up to represent Chile, Scotland and Hungary on the international level, respectively.

Russell returns to the Scottish National Team after working his way back into contention earlier this season and earning his fifth cap in a friendly against Mexico in June. Scotland will play two home matches at Hampden Park in Glasgow, hosting world No. 2-ranked Belgium in a high-profile friendly on Sept. 7 before opening their UEFA Nations League campaign in Group C1 against Albania on Sept. 10.

Rubio’s form has not gone unnoticed in his native Chile, as he was called up to the Chilean National Team this week for the first time since earning three caps as an 18-year-old in 2011. Chile is heading to Asia to take on Japan on Sept. 7 at the Sapporo Dome in Sapporo, Japan, and South Korea on Sept. 11 at Suwon World Cup Stadium in Suwon, South Korea. Rubio will be available for Saturday’s match against the Sounders before departing for Asia and is set to miss the following weekend’s home match against Orlando City SC.

Salloi is set for his first-ever trip with the full Hungarian National Team, having represented the Under-21 side over the last year. Hungary will begin UEFA Nations League play with two games in Group C2, traveling to meet Finland on Sept. 8 at Tampere Stadium in Tampere and hosting Greece on Sept. 11 at Groupama Arena in Budapest. 3

SPORTING KANSAS CITY NEWS AND NOTES Each of the United Bid’s 23 proposed stadiums are fully built, occupied and operational, ensuring long-term use following the 2026 World Cup. The United Bid has 150 existing world-class training facilities, millions of hotel rooms, and advanced infrastructure.

Sporting Kansas City has had few issues scoring goals so far in the 2018 season. Peter Vermes’ side has found multiple goals in 20 of the club’s 28 matches in all competitions this season and has only been shutout five times. Sporting KC is the sixth highest scoring team in MLS so far in 2018 with 47 goals, while the side has scored 54 goals when including U.S. Open Cup play.

The United Bid is expected to generate more than $14 billion in revenue and $11 billion in profits for FIFA, which will be shared with the 211 FIFA Member Associations, helping further develop and expand the game of football across the globe.

Sporting KC has 14 different goalscorers so far this year in MLS play - which is the second highest number of different goalscorers across a single squad this season. So far this season, Sporting KC has found goals from Johnny Russell (8), Daniel Salloi (7), Diego Rubio (7), Felipe Gutierrez (5), Ilie Sanchez (4), Gerso Fernandes (3), Khiry Shelton (2), Graham Zusi (2), Jimmy Medranda (2), Cristian Lobato (2), Yohan Croizet (2), Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal (1), Ike Opara (1) and Roger Espinoza (1).

INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENTS RETURN TO CMP

On Wednesday, May 16, it was announced that Children’s Mercy Park will host international tournaments over the next two summers. On July 26, the U.S. Women’s National Team returned to Kansas City to beat Japan 4-2 in the Tournament of Nations, with Australia also topping Brazil 3-1 as part of a doubleheader. Then, next summer, the CONCACAF Gold Cup comes back to KC for the first time since 2015 for a doubleheader in 2019. The teams and schedules for that tournament will be announced at a later date.

The 6-0 triumph over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on April 20 tied club records for largest margin of victory and most goals scored in a competitive match. Sporting KC has 42 goals through 23 regular-season matches this year, having scored 40 in all of 2017. The last time Sporting KC hit six goals in an MLS match was on June 20, 1999.

The U.S. WNT has now played in Kansas City eight times since its inaugural visit in 1999. Children’s Mercy Park played host to its fourth U.S WNT contest, having also welcomed crowds for a 1-1 friendly draw against Canada in 2011, a 1-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship, and a 4-0 friendly victory over Costa Rica in 2016.

Sporting KC found it difficult to score on the road last season, only scoring 10 times in the club’s 17 away games in 2017 and only winning twice on the road. In 12 road games this year, Sporting KC has already surpassed last year’s total in goals with 18 and has already recorded five road wins over the Chicago Fire (March 10), the LA Galaxy (April 8), Atlanta United FC (May 9), the Houston Dynamo (Aug. 4) and Los Angeles FC (Aug. 11). Sporting also only scored multiple goals on the road two times in 2017 but has done so in seven of the club’s 12 away games so far in 2018.

The world-class home of Sporting Kansas City is one of 15 venues across 13 U.S. cities that will welcome the 2019 edition of the expanded CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will feature a record 16 nations next summer from June 14-July 7. The biennial tournament is the premier international competition of the North, Central American and Caribbean region, helping determine Concacaf’s representative at the 2021 FIFA Confederations Cup.

VERMES ERA CONTINUES

Now in the midst of his 10th season at the helm of Sporting Kansas City, manager Peter Vermes is looking to guide his side to yet another postseason appearance and remain firmly in the hunt for silverware in 2018. With the 1-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on August 4, 2018, Vermes coached his 302nd regular-season match - becoming the alltime leader in games coached with one club in league history.

LOOKING TO EXTEND PLAYOFF STREAK

Sporting KC is looking to continue it’s impressive streak of postseason appearances after becoming just the sixth club in MLS history to make at least seven straight trips to the MLS Cup Playoffs, while Manager Peter Vermes is now just the fourth coach to lead the same team to seven straight playoff appearances.

Vermes is the longest tenured coach that is currently coaching a team in Major League Soccer, having been in charge of Sporting KC since 2009 - one year longer than Ben Olsen has been running the show at D.C. United. Vermes became the longest tenured coach in MLS when former LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena took the U.S. National Team coaching gig in November 2016.

2026 WORLD CUP HEADING TO NORTH AMERICA

The United Bid of Canada, Mexico, and the United States was selected to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday, June 13 by the 68th FIFA Congress in Moscow. Kansas City is one of 23 Candidate Host Cities in the United Bid.

The vote, which occurred a day before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, also marks the first time three nations have been selected to co-host a FIFA World Cup and the first time the FIFA World Cup will be played in North America in 32 years. The United Bid offers FIFA and its 211 Member Associations unity, certainty, and opportunity as they prepare to host the largest FIFA World Cup in history, which will be expanded to a 48-team format.

Thoughts on the match: “I thought when Yohan came on, when the forward leaves the space and he’s able to run in underneath it, it changed everything. And then all of a sudden, everybody started to catch fire to it and we started creating many more chances in the game. It was the difference in the game for me.”

On instructions to Yohan Croizet at halftime: “I said, ‘There’s moments where you’re conservative but you have got to be aggressive as well with penetrating runs.’ He got after it right away. It was good timing on his part.”

With the FIFA Congress decision to award the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to the federations of Canada, Mexico, and the United States, the three nations will jointly manage preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup until FIFA establishes their operations to manage the competition. Among other decisions, FIFA will make the final selection of host cities for the 2026 competition from the 23 candidates proposed in the United Bid.

On the team’s defensive showing: “I think tonight we gave up far too many chances for me. Tim was very good in between the pipes. We’ve been pretty good defensively. Tonight, I think we were a little bit below standard and we’re going to talk about it this week. We’ve got to be much more clean and detail oriented. At the end of the game, we weren’t aggressive enough defensively to go win balls when we could. We were a little bit lackadaisical. That piece has to change. It’s good to keep the ball out of the back of the net but it really doesn’t mean anything because we’ve got another game coming.” 4
