The Drum and Lyre Corps of San Policarpo National High School emerged victorious as the CHAMPION at the Exhibition Showdown of the Grand Drum Corps Competition 2023, held at NWSSU Field. For eight months, these young performers dedicated themselves to perfecting their craft, rehearsing, and fine-tuning their moves. The outcome? A performance that can only be described as aweinspiring. The SPNHS Drum and Lyre Corps left no crumbs with their spirited performance, perfectly synchronized moves, and vibrant theme that complemented the city's 75th Charter Day Celebration. A lively theme electrified the audience; the flaglets swirled and twirled in the air like vibrant birds of paradise, and the beat of the drums was thunderous. When asked about his feelings as SPNHS was announced as the winner, Sir John Jayson Chan, the dedicated coordinator of the Drum and Lyre Corps, expressed his elation. "It feels real," he said with a proud smile. “We really have done our best and everything— sacrifices, effort. So, hearing the sweetest announcement a while ago was very emotional for all of us. Of course, everyone has exerted their effort, all schools exerted their efforts. Pero in our case talaga, almost a year kasi nga preparation, so gintreat talaga namon na ultimate goal namon nga magdaog.” He also left a powerful quote for aspiring young talents: "Trust the process, that everything should be entrusted to what is happening—to what is the process." The SPNHS performers are not only skilled but also passionate about what they do, and it shines through in every beat of the drum, every note they play, and every step they take. Of course, it is not only the performers who deserve recognition. Behind this victory are the unsung heroes who guided, mentored, and supported the Drum and Lyre Corps tirelessly. The SPNHS Drum and Lyre Corps is indebted to the vision and leadership of Sir John Jayson Chan, Sir Nikko Franklin Quintana, Sir Benson Ancheta, Hubert Repesada, and Ismael Villarino, who mentored these performers.
