Green rides to Nationals again By Marc Robertson Frio-Nueces Current Thursday, June 13, 2013
La Salle County native Tanner Green has qualified for a shot at the national championship in his final year as a member of the Junior High Rodeo Association and will travel to Gallup, New Mexico, later this month to compete in team roping. Green, a 14-year-old homeschooled student, is making his third trip to the nationals this year, and for the second time, he will go there with an arena record to put him in the qualifiers’ circle. In order to reach the national competition, Green qualified by winning top ranks at the region and state levels, each time finishing among the top riders in the state. In the spring of this year, Green switched his membership to Region 7 in Edna, Texas, and earned the championship as tiedown roper, ribbon roper, team roper and chute dogger, and the all-around cowboy award. He qualified to the state finals in first place in each of his events. In April, however, Green was dealt a potentially competition-ending blow when he suffered a broken elbow while riding bulls at the Texas Youth Rodeo Association event at Caldwell. Green’s championship records go back to his sixth grade year, when he became the Texas Junior High Rodeo

My heroes are veterans. They are sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers, Uncles, aunts, cousins, sisters, and brothers. United we will continue to stand, Because of these veterans who have fought for our land. We should all take our hats off, raise our hand and salute, It is to our soldiers that we must pay our tribute. Everyone should realize that freedom is not free, We so easily forget those who have kept that right for you and me. Without their sacrifice America would be lost, They were brave and strong no matter the cost. For some, freedom was the gift Weston is pictured that they unselfishly gave, after reading his essay But in the end, death was the price at the SPJST Flag Day observance in Temple. that they paid. Others were able to return to their homes, But were left to deal with bad memories all alone. We must always remember, we must never forget, It is the red, white, and blue that these men and women so proudly represent. —SPJST—
