Ollieâ(OlgaâEmilieâShenkir)âJakubik wasâ bornâ inâ Seaton,â Texas,â inâ 1916. SheâgrewâupâonâaâfarmâinâSeatonâand learnedâaboutâaâlovingâfamilyâlifeâand theâvalueâofâhardâworkâfromâherâparents JohnâM.âandâEmilieâ(Lesikar)âShenkir. OllieâandâherâbrotherâJohnâShenkirâare theâ onlyâ survivingâ siblings.â â Sister MarthaâShenkirâArmintroutâandâbrothersâ Edwin,â Adolph,â Rudolph,â and JessieâShenkirâareâallâdeceased.ââTheir motherâ Emilieâ diedâ inâ aâ houseâ fire whenâOllieâwasâaboutâ16âyearsâoldâso Ollieâhadâtoâhelpâherâfatherâwithâher threeâ youngerâ siblings.â â Theirâ father
Johnâ passedâ away inâaboutâ1941. Ollieâ married Ernestâ Rudolph JakubikâonâNovemberâ24,â1938,âatâthe homeâ ofâ Reverend F.J.â Kostorhyzâ in Temple,â Texas. Ernestâ wasâ a farmer/rancherâand anâSPJSTâsalesârepresentative.â â Ollie wasâ aâ motherâ and homemaker.â â She alsoâworkedâatâvariousâjobsâincluding theâ groceryâ store bakeryâ andâ the greatestâlengthâofâtimeâasâstoreâclerk andâkitchenâhelperâatâSnookâISDâfrom whichâsheâretiredâinâ1989.ââOllieâand
Ernestâwereâblessed withâ fourâ children: Carlsonâ(wifeâJudy Fuchs)â ofâ New Braunfels,â Lyndon (wifeâMaudeâBothe) ofâ Snook,â Elaine (husbandâ James Muzny)â of Deanville,âandâBerniceâ (husband Thomasâ Junek)â of Snook;â 11â grandchildrenâ and spouses;â andâ 12 great-grandchildren.ââErnestâpassed awayâinâ1989. Theâ knowledge thatâ sheâ learnedâ onâ theâ familyâ farm helpedâ Ollieâ inâ herâ lifeâ asâ a mother/homemakerâraisingâfourâchil-
drenâ onâ aâ farmâ workingâ withâ Ernest takingâcareâofâanimalsâandâworkingâin theâfields.âââIârememberâmilkingâcows byâ handâ andâ makingâ homemade cheese,âandâcaringâforâtheâhousehold needs,ââsheâsays.âââOurâchildrenâalso hadâtoâhelpâoutâonâtheâfarm;âitâwasâhard work,âbutâitâbringsâwonderfulâmemoriesâ ofâ familyâ togethernessâ thatâ you donâtâ seeâ tooâ muchâ ofâ today.ââ The memoriesâ ofâ togethernessâ extendâ to visitingâfriendsâandâfamilyâonâSunday afternoonâandâenjoyingâsvacina ofâpoppyseedâ andâ cottageâ cheeseâ kolaches andâdoughnutsâwithâcoffeeâandâtea.ââ Anâ SPJSTâ memberâ forâ 78â years, OllieâsâfirstâSPJSTâlifeâinsuranceâcertificateâ wasâ purchasedâ byâ herâ father. âAnd,âafterâIâmarriedâErnest,âheâmade sureâ Iâ hadâ another,ââ â Ollieâ remarks.
