Helen Kubicek - Consistently Persistent O
nce again, Lodge 88, Houston member Helen Kubicek has broken a record. She exceeded her previous donation record of canned drink pull tabs collected for the Ronald McDonald House. Eighteen gallon jars are shown packed with the results of her labor. This is two more gallons than her last contribution. With the help of her family, Helen has committed to pursue yet another personal record-breaker in the near future. Helen always encourages others to participate in the collection. Also displayed are two bags of pull tabs collected from several fellow lodge members. Many small collections can make a big difference.
Thanks, Helen Kubicek, for your persistent dedication to the Ronald McDonald House charitable program. —SPJST—

Taroks, SPJST Members: Anywhere, Anytime By Michael Morris of Lodge 47, Seaton On Saturday, February 20, 2007, the weather in Seaton, Texas, (located in East Bell County and home of Lodge 47, Seaton) was cold and nasty. In fact, the whole week leading up to that day had been rather terrible with ice, sleet, and sub-freezing temperatures. Well, this story will warm your heart! Lodge 47, Seaton (Hvezda Texasu or “Star of Texas”) had planned on hosting another successful tarok tournament that day. Due to the increasingly inclement weather, the folks at Lodge 47 decided during the week to postpone the tournament. However, not all who had planned on showing up to play got the message. You guessed it! Early that
Saturday morning, players from many points of the state —El Campo, Dallas, Schulenburg, Taylor, Fort Worth—showed up at Star Hall to play some cards. Now, let me tell you, this is a competitive bunch! Much to their dismay, the tournament had been called off. Now what to do? It was the perfect scenario for some of our members to step in with some fraternal spirit. Lodge 47 members Jimmie and Carolyn Coufal, who happen to live close by and who, I might add, are avid and skilled tarok players, came to the aid of the stranded players. The Coufals took these folks back to their See Fraternalism on page 3.
