Library, Archives and Museum roots date to mid '50s embers of the SPJST Library, Archives and Museum (LAM) Board met at the SPJST Home Office in Temple on September 23, 2000. It was their second meeting following the SPJST Convention decision on June 12 which ratified the establishment of the new non-profit organization to administer the growth of the LAM. Among the items discussed were ways to promote the LAM and establish a more dynamic presence both statewide and locally for the project. Board members also discussed a number of administrative matters related to securing and maintaining artifacts, crediting donors and implementing standard operating procedures. The next scheduled meeting of the LAM Board of Directors will be via conference call in December. The names of LAM Board members appear on page six of this article.

A Closer Look The SPJST Library, Archives and Museum, housed in the SPJST Home Office at 520 North Main Street, seeks to preserve the culture, the memories and the proud history of Texans of Czech ancestry. It also stands as a memorial to the pioneer forefathers and mothers who settled Texas. The library contains more than 23,000 volumes; 18,000 of which are in Czech. There is also an everincreasing number of genealogical texts and research materials. Credit goes to past SPJST Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris for his work in starting the SPJST Library collection and to Otto Hanus for his diligence as the LAM's first curator. The lion's share of thanks for the collection goes to SPJST members and friends of the Society who have donated the thousands of artifacts and volumes on display. The SPJST LAM has been in its present location at the SPJST Home (Continued on page 3.)

A SENSE OF HISTORY — The SPJST Supreme Lodge sought and obtained convention approval in June 1980 to enlarge and relocate the SPJST Library, Archives and Museum to the basement of the SPJST Home Office. Following that decision, Museum Curator Otto Hanus, left, and Supreme Lodge President Nick Morris, commence the the month-long task of relocating the collection.
