Scholarship drive generates five new scholarships through end of fourth week
Lodge 18 Vice President Leslie Gustafson, seated, and Lodge President Dollie Hajda are the center of attention as they set fire to the paid note on their lodge hall. More than 500 SPJST members and well-wishers helped celebrate the occasion which took place at the Elgin hall on Sunday, October 22. The day included a luncheon, ceremony and dance with music by Harry Czarnek. Gathered round to observe the note-burning were lodge officers and committee chairs. (More celebration photos will appear in next week's Vestnik.)
We Extend Our Appreciation To the SPJST Supreme Lodge in Temple, Texas, who helped to make our "Burning of the Note" celebration a success, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for helping us with the flyers, programs, door prizes and advertising. Thank you, too, for the beautiful new Lodge 18 banner which is proudly displayed on our wall for everyone to see. To Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar, Past Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris, Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska, District Two Director Willie Kohutek, Editor Brian Vanicek and everyone who was a part of the program, thank you for your attendance and support. Special thanks to our faithful lodge members for their wonderful preparations and to the many friends of Lodge 18 who were in attendance. Finally, we extend our appreciation to all of you who over the past 25 years have supported Lodge 18, Elgin. We are planning to have a lot more for you to enjoy in the coming years and we look forward to seeing you again. Fraternally yours, Dollie Hajda Lodge 18, Elgin President
Lodge 18 member Jim Mogonye, left, visits with two of the special guests on hand for the occasion, Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar, center, and immediate past Supreme Lodge President Nick A. Morris. Both Brother Leshikar and Brother Morris addressed the assembly. Brother Morris served as SPJST president during the reactivation of Lodge 18, Elgin.
