Sister Mary Schiller Celebrates 96th Birthday

District II Director Willie E. Kohutek is making a presentation to Sister Mary. Schiller while Lodge 24 President Barbara Macek is witnessing the special occasion.

The members of Lodge No. 24, Cyclone honored Sister Mary Schiller April 27th on her 96th birthday and on outliving her insurance policy. District II Director Willie E. Kohutek made the Certificate of Recognition and check presentations to Sister Schiller on behalf of the SPJST Society. Sister Schiller, of 107 South . 24th Street, Temple, Texas, was born 6 February 1890 to Joe and Teresie (Junek) Machat at Industry, Texas. The family moved to Wesley, then later to Nelsonville where she grew up as a teenager. At the age of 20, she moved to Rogers to work in a hotel, that was managed by her sister. After working there for two years, she met and married Jerry B. Schiller of the Meeks community. Soon after her marriage, she became a member of the Ocker Brethren Church and the

Christian Sisters. Jerry and Mary made their home in the Meeks community where they farmed until 1962. Upon retiring, they moved to Temple. They shared 51 years of marriage, (her husband is now ' deceased.) Sister Mary still lives in her home, does all her cooking and bakes kolache and bread. She always has a happy outlook on life. She has three children, Lorine (Schiller) Fuchs of Buckholts, Jerry D. Schiller and Laverne (Schiller) Vanicek, both of Temple; alSo six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
