FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK LODGE NO. 87, TEMPLE Regular lodge meeting date has been reset for Friday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. due to Easter services. (See Dorothy Chervenka's letter) * * We are limiting our editorial this week due to the need for space for all the necessary letters, etc. We will try to explain some of the problems we are encountering at a later date. • • We regret that we found it practically impossible to attend the spring District V meeting, March 17, at Lodge Stefanik No. 142, Houston. From District V Secretary Tillie Helmeamp's and other letters, we see that the meeting was successful and informative, for which we are pleased. We missed seeing all of our longtime friends. Sunday, March 24 — In spite of the rain and near-freezing temperature, it was remarkable to see many dedicated and loyal members attend their District VII meeting at Lodge No. 107 in Floresville. The weather didn't seem to dampen the members' spirits; they wanted to hear the various reports of the district officers and the 6PM' as a whole, and to enjoy the fellowship.
LAUGHTER Laugh and the world laughs with you, Weep and you weep alone; For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth, But has trouble enough of its own. —Ella Wheeler Wilcox "Solitude" The man who cannot laugh is not only fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils, hut his whole life is already a treason and a stratagem. —Carlyle * * Man is the only creature endowed with the poWer of laughter. —GreviIle Man alone suffers so excruciatingly in the world that he was compelled to invent laughter. —Nietzsche `The Will to Power" Although District VII is located in a geographically extended area, the district officers always partake in their duties with interest. Perhaps more, than anything else, this is ar reflection of their knowledge and respect for their Society and they constantly maintain ambition for their members of all ages. It Was good news to hear that
Lodge No. 79, Corpus Christi hats formed a. youth club, and Lodge 133, San Antonio, has also formed a youth club since the District VII fall meeting. With regret, we were advised, at the meeting, that District VII Director Pete Valchar was hospitalized; however, he was dismissed from the hospital prior to the district meeting, but Brother Vaichar and his wife, Sister Tillie Valchar, District VII Sales Representative, both were unable to attend the meeting and give their reports. Brother Valchar's many friends, acquaintances and editor, join in extending wishes for a speedy recovery and may an abundance of good health be in store for you in the future. During the meeting, even. the District VII Youth Club showed much interest in their gathering and activities. DYC Maxine Pay -liska,wtherladsn itants, were much enthused over their attendance, including the results of their money-making project booths. SL President Nick Morris and Sister Dorothy Morris were among the guests present at the meeting. Brother Morris distributed the checks to District VII officers for their various funds, and spoke briefly. Liketvvise, Editor Rudy
