FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Again the weatherman cooperated and reserved a beautiful sunny day for the sales representatives in District II in order to assemble for a 4th annual testimonial dinner in their honor which was held Sunday, February 25 at Lodge 24 in Cyclone. Hosts for the event were District II Sales Representative Lad Zatopek and wife Mary Ann. To a gathering of approximately ninety honorees, guests and their wives, Brother Zatopek fulfilled his promise Sunday evening to the representatives of his district to barbecued beef with trimmings. Upon the arrival of the honorees and guests, each one was treated to refreshments. Attention was called to order and District II President Howard Leshikar said the grace for us; and Brother Lad Zatopek asked for a moment of silent respect for our departed organizer, Brother Willie Hejl of Lodge 48, Beyersville. After a delicious meal, everyone was in fine spirits,, full of pleasantries and anticipation. Toastmaster Brother Zatopek asked for his attention. He welcomed everyone present and thanked his co-workers for their great and outstanding achievements to be able to host this festivity. Then he introduced the guests at the head able. Raymond Urbanovsky and wife, SL Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska and wife, SI., Financial-Secretary Ben Zabcik and wife, District II Director Henry Vitek and wife, and your editor and wife. Each officer and the editor spoke briefly. Brother Zatopek also recognied District II President Howard Leshikar and wife, District II Youth Counselor Frank Klinkovsky
and wife, District II PC Member Brother E. J. Geistman and, wife, and District I Sales Representative Ernest Jakubik and wife. Toastmaster Zatopek introduced the featured speaker, SL Vice President Joe B. Hejny who was in charge of the highlights of the program. Brother Hejny covered a lot of valuablet and very interesting information which could be compiled into a lengthy chapter. Therefore, we will reveal only the main parts of his speech. First, Brother Hejny thanked the hosts for the invitation to the large gathering. He expressed his appreciation of the cooperation of District II Sales P.epresentative Brother Lad Zatopek and the loyal and dedicated sales representatives. In his remarks he continued, "1972 was a record-breaking year, both in securing members as well as investmentwise. In 1972 we received 3,456 applications for a total of $11,390,830 of life insurance," said Brother Hejny. He pointed out to us, "this gives us a total of 46,749 certificates for $76,921,261 of life insurance business in force." Vice President Brother Hejny also mentioned that "we have a surplus in reserves of $3,376,566, and this gives us a resource of 121.42 for each $100 liability." He complimented District II workers very highly which resulted in such an outstanding achievement of writing 722 applications for
