JANUARY 24, 1973

FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Unfortunately, in my last week's editorial I mentioned, that Brother Raymond Urbanovsky, was elected treasurer of the Supreme Lodge during the 1944 convention. It should have read: Financial-Secretary of the Supreme Lodge. Furthermore, we will elaborate more on the subject of the occasion. No matter how hard you try when you sit down behind your desk, and start compiling the facts that transpired during a function, sooner or later, your thinking cap will get heavier and heavier and you inadvertently omit someone, especially one who has been a devoted officer and director of the Supreme Lodge for a long time and this member we are speaking of is Brother Jos. F. Koliha, Jr., of District VII. He served as SL Treasurer for a number of years, and then served as District VII Director from January 1, 1969 to January 1, 1973. Before his term expired, he became ill and Brother John Hranicky became acting District VII Director with the approval of the entire SL body until Brother Hranicky's term expired. Presently, Brother Pete Valchar is the district director. We wish him success in his endeavors. During the presentation Of awards, SL Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska accepted the plaque in Brother Koliha's behalf because Brother Mikeska had worked for

FRIENDSHIP'S GOLD Friendship's gold That never turns to rust, The gold of wisdom, Happiness and trust The gold of quiet And the gold of peace, The gold of living With its rich increase Nature's gold of faith, Of love and hope and grace And golden memories To light your face; Brother Koliha in the same department, and he agreed to deliver the plaque to him (Brother Koliha), who is now convalescing in a rest home in Temple. District IV Director Emil Holub executed his duty as director, replacing the late Brother R. E. Bros. Brother Holub also was a district organizer for a number of years. Since he was unable to be present, his successor, District Director Stanley Broz accepted the plaque and agreed to deliver it to Brother Holub, also. Incidentally, Director Stanley Bros is the son of the late Brother R. E. (Bob) Broz; this makes a second generation that will represent the district at the Supreme Lodge.

While on the subject of second generations, District I Director John Kubona is also a second generation of the Supreme Lodge body; he is the son of the late Brother J. R. Kubena who was the first secretary of the Supreme Lodge. We also want to mention District VI Director Paul Sablatura and his wife attended the occasion. Brother Sablatura succeeds Brother Sralla in his district. Actually, a person could ramble on and on once you sit down to write about a fraternal happening, you could almost compose a large size chapter about this one evening. Your editor had the pleasure of serving as delegate to the 15th SPJST Convention in 1948 which was held in Fort Worth, where he became acquainted with some of these retiring officers and directors; and a person has to admit, they have served long and faithful terms in our Society. Would you like a practical guide for the whole year . . . things wanted and needed? Then listen carefully and jot down carefully at least some of the following suggestions: Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others, even the dull and ig-
