FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK District I will hold their fall meeting Sunday, November 5, at Lodge No. 17, New Tabor. Attend your district meetings! • Your editor and family do much traveling even in inclement weather and the question sometimes comes to mind why anyone would want to risk life and property in such weather. Of course, when you have obligations concerning your occupation, it's a must to keep moving forward. However, the motorists during the late hours of the night generally travel with caution and we were indeed relieved to get to o destination after driving only 150 miles In four hours during an electrical storm. This was Saturday night, October 21st. The next day it was time to attend the fall meeting of District VI at Slovacek's Ballroom, with Lodge No. 63, Sweet Home acting as host. In this area it was a perfect day to hold a meeting and to find a rather average attendance. Sister Lottie Krutilek, president of District VI convened the fall meeting and carried out her duties. The district officers gave informative reports with the exception of District VI Director Ed Sralla who was in the Citizens Hospital in Victoria and could not be present DYD Elsie Brdecka also revealed an interesting report and beamed proudly
ISN'T IT SO! The man who considers himself too big for the job he can get may be considered too small for the job he wants. • 4 Everything has its price. We pay for last summer's shade by raking leaves this fall. • • Sometimes it pays to throw a little cold water on a "hot" idea and then take a second look when the steam blows off. with her large representation of youth club members from saveral lodges. At this time she introduced Teenager of the Year Karen Dorotik (30) who acted as MC for the program. It is commendable of the youth to originate their own ideas and preparations for their performances. They also seem to . be alert in their thoughtfulness to surprise the district president and youth leader, Sister Lottie Krutilek with a large birthday cake with 39 (?) candles. DO Matt Vanek gave recognition to the organizers for their outstanding work and good achievements. Sister Lottie Krutilek was introduced as a winner for the 3-month contest who won the all-expense trip to TFC Convention in San Antonio. Her results were $24,500 in insurance sales and she secured 28 members. Congratulations,
Sister Krutilek! Newly-elected District VI Director Paul Sablatura revealed some of the highlights of his future obligations and thanked the district's membership for their confidence. Rest Homes District VI Director Erwin Holy also presented a rather well-prepared report. SL President Nick Morris, SL Treasurer Leonard Mikeska, SYD Dorothy Massey and District II Director Henry Vitek, each spoke briefly. Brother and Sister Johnnie Shimek of District V Were also introduced. Brother Leonard Mikeska presented plaques for 1971 to top organizers of District VI in SL Vice President Joe B. Hejny's behalf. These presentations were scheduled at the district organizers' banquet in Victoria; however, due to the inclement weather and many other district activities, Brother Vanek was unable to held the banquet, therefore, the presentations were made at the fall meeting. (Pictures and information will appear later). The meeting concluded in good and fraternal fellowship with a delicious meal and refreshments. We enjoyed the warm hospitality which was extended to us during the limited time and we thank the host lodge membership for their loyal effort. • • To most of us a birthday is an event in life, a state of mind, so to speak.
