FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK The annual meetings for many lodges are still in the future. Plan now to attend them. It is not only your privilege but, also, your responsibility. Do not stay away and sometime in the coming year 1970 !find things wrong and make unfraternal state ments that the wrong members were elected to be officers if you were not among those present to nominate and votc. Let's all be builders not demolishers or wreckers, even though the latter is much easier. It is also very unfraternal! It will serve every member well to read Bro. Zabcik's and Bro. Urbanovsky's reports on the National Fraternal Congress (NFC) under the heading "From the Supreme Lodge." The fraternals are being subjected to much pressure for taxation and, in fact, some legislation is already in the mill, figuratively speaking. It is not only the TF'C's and your supreme Lodge's duty to do all they can to voice their opposition to this unfair pressure. It is your local lodge's duty, as well as our's, individually. If our Congressmen and Senators, National or State, receive enough letters from enough of us pointing to the amount of fraternal work we do and our Rest 'Homes, do not think for one minute that they will not take immediate notice. They need votes, and, in that way, you are letting them know that

TREASURE CIIEST Deep in the sanctum of m y heart That secret part of me, I keep a chest of burnished gold From days that used to be. There, filled with memories crystal clear And trinkets from my yester-year; I find a lilac-bordered spring Entangled with a passing dream, And hear a long-forgotten song Of stars that slipped away at dawn ... I close the chest and hide the keys With joy for memories such as these. you are watching their actions in office. • Life Insurance Is America's Most Used Form of Thrift Millions of Americans find their dollars work harder for them in life insurance — enabling them to protect their families now, and build added security for themselves. Life insurance. in addition to providing for family security, plays an important role in our economic growth. Savings, through life insurance, help provide funds for new schools, new factories and the new jobs a growing America needs. Also remember your home can be secure when you own life insurance. You can make certain that your family will not be left with an unpaid mortgage.

Your children will be able to go to college. By using life insurance to help provide for college expenses, you can make sure that youngsters can have a good education. Big decisions can be made with more confidence for with life insurance you know, in advance, the exact amount of money which will be available in an emergency. When you are all set to take it easy, life insurance can guarantee you an income which neither you nor your wife can outlive. Your later years can be happier because life insurance can relieve you and your wife of the burden and risk of money management. • The life Insurance business has had to grow rapidly in order to meet the expanding financial needs of American families. While the average family's disposable income went up 60 per cent during the past decade, their average life insurance protection included 110 per cent. Their protection now covers about 24 months of after-tax income. compared with about 18 1/2 months income a decade ago. But this protection is still well below the level recommended by many experts -- who say that, as a rule of thumb, families generally need at least enough life insurance to cover four or five years of income.
