Messe Frankfurt Partners with VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific to Debut Prolight + Sound Bangkok 2026

SEA: Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong, in partnership with VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific, has announced the launch of Prolight + Sound Bangkok, a new regional platform for the entertainment and pro AV sectors. Scheduled to debut from 30 September to 2 October 2026 at Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), the new fair will leverage the Thai capital’s strategic position at the heart of Southeast Asia, offering access to a broader consumer market of more than 670 million people1.

The new industry show is backed by Messe Frankfurt’s global resources and industry expertise – through flagship fairs Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt and Prolight + Sound Guangzhou – along with VNU Exhibition Asia Pacific’s deep regional expertise and wellestablished local network. As such, Prolight + Sound Bangkok is poised to serve as a key

gateway for international suppliers looking to enter and expand across ASEAN, while acting as a nexus for innovation and industry growth in the region.

Thailand’s growing entertainment, live events and tourism sectors present significant headroom for investment in audio, lighting, staging, pro AV integration, and immersive experiences, while the new show will also leverage Bangkok’s exceptional regional connectivity. The latest expansion of the Prolight + Sound brand, first announced at a press conference at Music China on 22 October, further benefits from strong institutional and crossindustry support as one of nine fairs in Messe Frankfurt’s global Event & Entertainment Technologies network.

“Our Event & Entertainment Technologies portfolio, including our Prolight + Sound trade fair brand, connects a worldwide network of

industry pioneers, manufacturers and decision makers,” said Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Messe Frankfurt. “Prolight + Sound Bangkok is a natural extension of the brand into Southeast Asia, bringing our vast resources and expertise in pro AV and entertainment technology to a region ready for transformation. Exhibitors can expect global exposure, high-calibre buyers, and a powerful platform for growth.”

Prolight + Sound Bangkok will pair Messe Frankfurt’s global strengths with Southeast Asia’s abundant opportunities and also serve as a launchpad for cutting-edge international brands and suppliers to enter the buzzing market.

Richard Li, Executive Director of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, said: “By utilising the worldwide innovation pipeline and global brand resources of Prolight + Sound Guangzhou, an event industry showcase, the new Bangkok fair will help upgrade Southeast Asia’s industry, and give respected industry names, international exhibitors, and forward-thinking SMEs a costeffective, highimpact path into the region – including brand exposure, channel building, and order landing. We’re enabling the world’s leading pro AV and entertainment players to enter ASEAN efficiently and scale with confidence, while paving the way for local industry growth.”

Serving as a two-way bridge, Messe Frankfurt will pair global innovation and international brands with ASEAN demand, while VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific’s market knowledge sets the stage for smooth local partnerships and results.

“With decades of experience in organising successful exhibitions across ASEAN, VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific provides deep market understanding, local buyer networks, and

operational excellence,” said Justin Pau, CEO of VNU Exhibitions Asia Pacific. “Bangkok is well positioned to host a worldclass entertainment technology show, thanks to favourable government policies and strong demand in Thailand and beyond. Our proven collaboration with Messe Frankfurt, including for Meat Pro Asia, demonstrates a shared commitment to delivering impact for exhibitors and visitors. Together, we aim to build Prolight + Sound Bangkok into the premier hub for ASEAN’s entertainment technology ecosystem.”

Tourism is a key driver of the industry, and with business plus leisure travel also on the rise, Thailand’s booming tourism sector makes Bangkok an ideal location for the debut show. The city welcomed over 35 million visitors2 and was ranked the world’s number one city for tourism in 20243. Visa-free and visa-on-arrival access, paired with excellent air connectivity, will make international participation convenient. Bangkok is also a leading MICE destination, ranking seventh globally and number one in ASEAN for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions4. Supporting this growth, government initiatives such as Thailand 4.0, the Creative Economy Plan, and soft power programmes are driving increased investment in the pro AV sector.

Global festivals such as Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) and Tomorrowland are set to launch in Thailand, setting the stage for industry growth. The night economy – from luxury hotels and rooftop bars to clubs and theatres – is also investing heavily in AV and lighting upgrades. Landmark venues like ICONSIAM and Phuket Carnival Magic, alongside vibrant annual festivals like Songkran, indicate a strong need for integrated audio, lighting, staging, and display solutions.

Amid this dynamic environment, Prolight + Sound Bangkok strives to become the region’s leading and most innovative pro AV and

entertainment showcase, fostering greater sourcing and partnership opportunities. To realise this vision, core product categories have been thoughtfully curated to meet the needs of Thailand and the wider ASEAN market. These include:

• Professional audio equipment & technology

• Conferencing & AV equipment

NETGEAR Academy Expands into IndustryWide IP Training Platform

GLOBAL: NETGEAR, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTGR), a global leader in intelligent networking solutions designed to power extraordinary experiences, today announced that it’s transforming its training platform into the industry’s most comprehensive source for AV-over-IPbased professional education. The 3rd Party Manufacturer Training Program launches with training content from industry leaders AVB Academy, Crestron, Dante by Audinate, Lightware, Powersoft, Q-Sys, SDVoE Alliance, and Sennheiser with more to come.

Partners’ content features video demonstrations of solutions and best practices, interactive quizzes for knowledge reinforcement, and detailed PDF materials for technical reference. All training stays free for learners, removing traditional barriers to professional growth.

The expanded NETGEAR Academy marks a major shift from traditional isolated training methods to a collaborative ecosystem where manufacturers share knowledge to speed up IP adoption across the AV and broadcast industries. With over 1,000 new professionals joining each month, the platform gives partners

unmatched reach while providing learners with centralized access to expert training from multiple industry leaders.

“The IP transformation of broadcast and Pro AV calls for a new approach to education,” said Gus Marcondes, Global Training Manager at NETGEAR Enterprise. “We’re building a platform where shared knowledge boosts everyone’s success. When IT professionals, commercial AV integrators, and broadcast engineers understand how IP infrastructure supports modern AV solutions, the whole industry benefits.”

Building Infrastructure Intelligence Together

The program tackles a key industry issue: knowledge fragmentation across various professional fields. While IT teams excel at network architecture, they often lack a deeper understanding of the intricacies of real-time AV protocols. Broadcast professionals are experts in content delivery but may miss infrastructure details. Commercial integrators know deployment, but could improve their knowledge of the entire IP ecosystem.

“This collaborative approach reflects how IP-based AV actually functions,” explains Richard Jonker, VP of marketing and business development at NETGEAR AV. “Success in networked AV environments depends less on proprietary secrets and more on understanding how interconnected systems collaborate. Educated customers become better customers, and shared knowledge leads to stronger solutions.”

Beyond Announcements: The Transformation of PA Systems into Intelligent Life-Safety Networks

As technology converges, public address systems are no longer just for making announcements — they’ve evolved into mission-critical communication and evacuation tools

Keenfinity’s PRAESENSA IP-based PA/VA system allows for quick re-configuration via its software. Photo courtesy of Keenfinity.

From schools and transport hubs to sprawling smart cities, the role of public address (PA) systems has expanded far beyond simple audio announcements. Today, these systems form the backbone of voice evacuation and emergency communication networks — seamlessly integrating with fire alarms, building management systems, and digital monitoring platforms to ensure life safety.

Driven by IP-based connectivity, open protocols like Dante, and increasing demands for compliance with international standards such as EN 54 and UL 2572, PA systems are

becoming smarter, more scalable, and more secure. Yet, as Asia Pacific markets evolve at different speeds, the region faces both tremendous opportunity and unique challenges in adoption, standardization, and integration.

In this exclusive feature, Glenn Lin, Director of Sales, APAC at AtlasIED, and Manu Haridas Nair, Regional Marketing Manager for Public Address at KEENFINITY Group, share insights on how technology, regulation, and AI-driven intelligence are redefining the next generation of PA and voice evacuation systems.

According to Glenn Lin, Director of Sales, APAC at AtlasIED, “Modern PA systems are designed to interface directly with fire alarm panels, mass notification platforms, and building management systems — ensuring unified messaging and faster, more coordinated emergency responses.”

Key technologies driving this transformation include digital signal processing, ambient noise control, and network-based zoning and routing, which enable flexible coverage and precise communication. Open communication protocols such as Dante further enhance interoperability, allowing devices from different manufacturers to operate seamlessly within a single network.

System reliability and security have also advanced significantly. “Improvements in redundancy design, system monitoring, and cybersecurity have made integrated PA and voice evacuation solutions more robust and dependable, even under high-stress conditions,” adds Glenn.

Group, the last decade has been one of the most transformative in the industry. “The modernization of Public Address from analog to IP-based systems has redefined its purpose. What used to be a basic announcement

system is now an integral part of life safety infrastructure,” he explains.

“We at Public Address by Bosch have been pioneering this development with the OMNEO. OMNEO is an architectural approach for connecting devices over IP to exchange information, including audio content and device control. It is built upon multiple technologies, including IP and open public standards, to support the technologies of today such as Audinate’s Dante, AES67, AES70 and SMPTE ST 2110-30, while evolving to support those of tomorrow.”

Manu highlights, “In Asia Pacific, this evolution to IP, is unfolding at two distinct speeds — one in the developing economies like India, Vietnam, and Bangladesh, where rapid modernization is underway, and another in developed markets such as Singapore, South Korea, and Australia, where advanced compliance and smart integration dominate system design.”

Compliance: The Backbone of LifeSafety Systems

As PA systems evolve, compliance with international standards such as EN 54 and UL 2572 has become critical. These benchmarks ensure not only the reliability and safety of installations but also their interoperability and acceptance within the broader life-safety ecosystem.

Glenn emphasizes that such standards are “crucial for ensuring systems perform consistently under stress, supporting life safety requirements, and meeting regulatory approvals for building certification and insurance compliance.”

However, navigating compliance across Asia presents challenges. Diverse local codes, varying infrastructure maturity, and inconsistent enforcement can delay certification and deployment. “Manufacturers and integrators must adapt regionally while maintaining

AtlasIED’s innovative solutions, including smart amplifiers and digital communication stations, ensure clarity and reliability throughout Terminal A at Newark Airport, USA.

performance and cost efficiency — and close collaboration with local authorities and testing bodies is key,” Glenn notes.

Manu agrees, pointing out that while EN 54 has become the de facto standard across much of Asia, its enforcement varies widely. “Developing economies often urbanize faster than their regulatory frameworks evolve, creating gaps in adoption. Yet, the intent to comply is strong, and we’re seeing increasing acceptance of certified systems,” he explains.

In contrast, developed markets like Australia, Singapore, and Korea have clear, enforceable standards and often impose additional local requirements. To bridge the regional skill gap, Manu highlights Bosch’s training curriculum for integrators, which helps technicians become “Master Technicians” capable of designing and deploying certified EN 54-compliant systems that meet diverse application needs.

Connectivity: The IP Revolution

The rise of IP and Dante-based connectivity has fundamentally reshaped how PA and voice evacuation systems are managed, monitored, and scaled. What were once hardware-centric

installations have evolved into intelligent, networked communication platforms.

“Modern infrastructures allow PA and voice evacuation systems to operate on IP-based platforms, enabling centralized control, realtime monitoring, and seamless communication across multiple buildings or campuses,” says Glenn. Facility managers can remotely adjust coverage zones, volume levels, and emergency messages — ensuring fast, coordinated responses when every second counts.

Manu adds that this level of flexibility is especially vital in complex infrastructures like metro networks. “Traditionally, each station had a standalone system. With IP and Dante, every station can now be part of a connected ecosystem. Messages can be routed instantly between locations and controlled from a central operations room,” he explains. This architecture simplifies expansion — new stations or zones can be added without major rewiring, making systems scalable and future-proof.

Intelligence and the Future of Emergency Communication

Looking ahead, technologies such as AI-driven monitoring, predictive maintenance, and cloud-

based management are set to redefine the future of public address and voice evacuation systems.

Glenn envisions a shift from reactive to proactive systems. “AI algorithms can analyze system performance to detect anomalies, optimize sound distribution, and automatically adjust to environmental or occupancy changes. Predictive maintenance will identify potential failures before they occur, ensuring uptime during critical moments,” he explains.

Manu extends this vision with practical scenarios. “Imagine a metro station where AI predicts amplifier degradation weeks in advance and triggers service intervention — or during an evacuation, the system uses sensor data to direct crowds intelligently by zone. These are not far-off possibilities,” he notes.

However, with connectivity comes the challenge of cybersecurity. Manu highlights Bosch’s PRAESENSA IP-based PA/VA system as an example of how manufacturers are addressing this: every component undergoes rigorous threat and risk analyses, with continuous

updates and vulnerability management to maintain protection throughout the system’s lifecycle.

Towards a Smarter, Safer Future

As buildings grow smarter and safety expectations rise, the convergence of PA and voice evacuation systems is transforming communication infrastructure. The shift from analog to IP, from reactive to predictive, and from isolated installations to intelligent lifesafety networks underscores the industry’s evolution toward resilience, interoperability, and adaptability.

In the dynamic Asia Pacific region — where modernization races ahead of regulation — the next phase of innovation will be driven by data, AI, and connected ecosystems. The PA systems of tomorrow will not only broadcast messages but will also think, adapt, and protect, ensuring a safer and more responsive world.

With extensive experience in the design and installation of PA, BGM, and EVAC systems, David Seow has contributed to some of Singapore’s most critical infrastructure projects, including MRT stations and Changi Airport Terminals. Drawing from decades in the field, he shares his perspective on the evolving priorities in PA and voice evacuation design.

“Intelligibility is key,” David emphasizes. “For any PA or EVAC system, the Speech Transmission Index (STI) is often cited at a minimum of 0.5 — but in practice, 0.6 and above would be ideal. An STI of 1.0 would be perfect, but it’s almost impossible to achieve in real-world environments, and it wouldn’t sound natural to the human ear.”

Beyond system design, David highlights an often-overlooked factor — the human element.

“No two people sound the same. Everyone has a different voice structure, and the person making announcements needs to know how to project their voice properly. It’s easier said than done, especially during emergencies when staying calm is difficult. You can have the best system in the world, but if the person using it isn’t trained, intelligibility still suffers.”

Even pre-recorded messages, he notes, can present challenges. “Recordings that sound perfect in the studio or during testing may not work as intended in real conditions. Once the space fills with people, the ambient noise changes, and the playback level may no longer be sufficient. The best approach is to work with real acoustic data — measurements that reflect typical conditions in the space. That won’t completely solve the issue, but it will get you

closer. Fine-tuning by an experienced engineer is still crucial.”

David believes one area that needs greater focus in the industry is specialized training “In my opinion, we still lack system integrators who are properly trained in voice alarm systems. Having certified and skilled personnel would greatly improve system design and implementation. I hope organizations like The Institute of Sound, Communications and Visual Engineers (ISCVE) will eventually bring their training programmes to this region.”

From a technology standpoint, David points to the shift toward IP-based systems as one of the most significant advances. “With IP systems, you eliminate single points of failure and gain the flexibility to plug and play paging stations anywhere along the network. The system becomes more scalable and resilient. On top of that, everything moves into the digital domain, giving operators a graphical interface that’s far more intuitive and less intimidating. At the end of the day, the human experience matters — we should hide the complexity behind the rack and keep the frontend operation simple.” He also stresses the importance of early collaboration. “For largescale projects, it’s vital that consultants, end clients, and manufacturers engage early. Having someone who truly understands PA/EVAC system design can make a huge difference to the project’s success.”

Finally, David calls for responsible specification practices. “All parties involved should define systems based on design criteria and performance specifications. That ensures the integrator or supplier is accountable for delivering the intended performance. But for that to happen, they need the right training and understanding of what a properly designed system entails.”

nationalities gather each weekend for worship, creating a multicultural tapestry that reflects Singapore’s global identity.

But unifying voices from around the world requires more than just shared faith; it demands exceptional audio clarity that reaches every corner of their 500-capacity main sanctuary. When the church’s ageing sound system could no longer deliver the pristine coverage their diverse congregation demanded, IBCS turned to

L-Acoustics Certified Partner Concept Systems Technologies for a solution that would serve both intimate sermons and contemporary worship led by worship bands, choirs, and orchestra ensembles.

Acoustic Challenges in a Sacred Space

The main sanctuary has a wide seating hall with different sections that have both high and relatively low ceiling heights. This presented specific acoustic challenges that demanded

a sophisticated approach. Given the space’s architectural constraints and natural acoustic environment, a carefully designed system was required to achieve consistent, intelligible sound throughout the venue.

“Our system design for IBCS centred around L-Acoustics A10i speakers. It was specifically selected for its unique waveguide directivity characteristics that proved ideal for the venue’s wide seating area and ceiling constraints,” explained Gerald Fong of Concept Systems Technologies.

Using L-Acoustics Soundvision 3D modelling software, Concept Systems developed a comprehensive solution that consists of a main left-right hang that features one A10i Focus and two A10i Wide speakers per side. Each side is also coupled with two KS21i subwoofers providing low-end definition. To complete the coverage, an outfill left-right hang is deployed with one A10i Focus and one A10i Wide speaker per side, while a single X8i enhances the centre-

fill coverage. Balcony seating receives coverage from a pair of X8i boxes positioned on either side of the hall.

Engineering Upgrades Drive Better Coverage

Using Soundvision 3D modelling simulations, Concept Systems has enhanced coverage by determining the optimal height for speaker installation. Congregation members seated under the balcony with relatively low ceiling heights have noticed substantial improvements. The 3D model also assisted in the optimal deployment of the X8i speakers to ensure that the farthest end of the balcony is receiving the same consistent and intelligible sound quality.

“Our team managed to adapt to the sanctuary architectural constraints and install the balcony coverage X8i units amidst changing ceiling height challenges and with minimal impact to the interior design,” noted Fong. “This ultimately improved overall coverage significantly, and we could verify through Soundvision modelling.”

A total of five L-Acoustics LA4X amplified controllers are deployed to power the system. The input AES-EBU audio signal is taken from an Allen & Heath DX012 Digital Expander, which is connected to an Allen & Heath dLive Digital Mixing Console. The speaker amplifiers are connected via an AES-EBU signal chain, with an additional analogue signal chain to ensure redundancy. This approach matches the sanctuary’s architectural elegance with technical sophistication.

Seamless Installation, Uninterrupted Worship

Fong and the Concept Systems team executed the installation within a tight two-week window, working exclusively on weekdays with mandatory Friday evening handovers for weekend services. The complex transition required exceptional coordination—at one point, two complete systems hung from the ceiling simultaneously while maintaining uninterrupted worship operations.

“Soundvision played a crucial role in making confident, informed design decisions during the project’s early phases,” noted Fong. “It provided clear visual communication with the client during the tender process. They could see exactly how coverage would improve and later helped us optimise the design before the installation.”

Transforming the Worship Experience

The impact has been transformative for both IBCS’s diverse congregation and technical team. Sound quality has improved dramatically with well-distributed coverage throughout the sanctuary, providing better headroom control for audio engineers and an elevated worship experience that serves the church’s mission of fostering unity across cultures.

“Concept Systems understood our vision of creating an inclusive worship environment with pristine audio for our diverse congregants. They have been a trustworthy and reliable partner,” concluded Derek Tan from the International Baptist Church of Singapore. “The L-Acoustics A Series system supports our mission of fostering unity and delivers exceptional audio that serves both intimate, faithful moments and celebratory worship expressions.”

For a congregation that spans 55 nationalities, crystal-clear audio isn’t just about technical excellence—it’s about ensuring every voice, every language, and every prayer can be heard and shared in the spirit of true community worship.
