CHAIRMAN’S CORNER
Matthew Farris Regional Sales Manager, Patina Energy Happy New Year to all of you! As we are all recovering from the holiday season, I will keep this edition short. I have not historically been one to make formal resolutions simply because the calendar has turned. This year, however, I am strengthening my commitment to leveraging AI for more than the occasional email rewrite. I share this because, at least for me, the process of resolving to do something new closely mirrors the process of learning itself. While the lessons along the way are important, an equally meaningful part of the journey is sharing the plan with trusted members of your circle and inviting accountability along the way. More on this AI journey can be found in the accompanying infographic I created, which—full transparency—took me entirely too long to create using Copilot. Side note: there is, in fact, a limit to the number of responses. Feel free to ask me how I discovered that the next time our paths cross. Moving onward. In this edition, and those that follow, you will notice the introduction of several new initiatives. The first to roll out is our Annual Section Sponsorship Campaign. Given the dynamic nature of our industry’s economic environment, the SPE Permian Basin Section must remain equally adaptable in its approach to fundraising. We believe this new sponsorship model will be a net positive for the many partnerships that exist between the Section and companies across the Permian Basin. This initiative will allow all parties to budget more effectively and will also open doors for support from companies that may be less flexible when mid-year requests arise. Lastly, I want to sincerely thank all the members of our Section for their continued commitment to the technical community, providing opportunities to the next generation through scholarships, and all of the employers that encourage your employees to get involved with our section. In particular, I would like to recognize Steve Melzer and his committee for executing an exceptionally comprehensive and enjoyable CO₂ Conference. For many years, a significant portion of the conference proceeds has been contributed to the SPE Permian Basin Section to support scholarship awards, and we are deeply grateful for that continued commitment.
