Focusing on the Aquarium de Paris and the Aquarium Tropical, this project explores and questions the ethics of captivity.
While captivity can be essential for conservation, aquariums often depend on human consumption and our desire for easy access to marine life. This dynamic can create a constant demand for entertainment, sometimes at the expense of conservation efforts.. This has resulted in nearly one third of the world’s coral reef to be lost.
Through the use of lighting and colouring, and without providing a definitive answer, “Vast Ocean” invites you to foster genuine awareness and question the sustainability of aquariums, as well as the ethics behind them, when choosing to support them.
