Le Alain

Un homme, un métier, une vie

Program - 32W photojournalism 2025 - 2026

Alain Vallet is a retired farmer. I didn’t meet him by chance; he lives across from my grandparents, and their gardens are separated by his donkey field. Growing up watching him work, he became the face of farming to me.

His farms, located in the villages of Levier and Montmahoux in the Doubs region in France, are home to donkeys and cows. He is still as dedicated to his animals as ever; for him, retirement hasn’t changed a thing. I follow him through his daily routine. At home, he begins by feeding his cats, then his donkeys. Once in the stable, he gives each of his cows a quick pat. His day ends around 10:30 p.m., after the second milking. He is a simple man, deeply attached to his routines and his animals.

This project documents his way of life and his rituals.

Born in 2002 in Saint Germain en Laye, Dorian Ratte is a French photographer who lives and works in Paris.

After completing his studies and earning two degrees in sports, he devoted himself to his passion for photography by joining SPÉOS in Paris in 2025. There, he will follow the one-year program in English, developing his photographic culture and technical skills, as well as a strong interest in reportage and documentary photography.
