WHO?
LOVELO CINELLI RACE TEAM ARE GROUP OF ENTHUSIASTIC LOCAL CYCLISTS THAT WANT TO GIVE BACK TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, AND THE WIDER CYCLING COMMUNITY.
Developed on the core idea of a ‘family feeling’ the riders have a close relationship with Cycleworks; a Berkhamsted based cycling shop, that shares similar ideals, Lovelo Cycle Works, have assisted with every local cycling sporting event, as well as a number of charity events in order to improve the local area, and have succeeded in being a fabric of the local area, they have helped Ashlyns School construct a Pump Track for the kids to use, helped run local sporting events such as Berkhamsted Cycling Clubs Castle races, and the Berkhamsted Triathlon, alongside this they have donated a number of cycling related prizes to local charities and supported the National Emergency Services TT Championships. The race team is aimed at developing talent from the ground up, rather than selecting already successful riders; the team have taken riders with no racing experience; to the top of the Regional Level, and with notable results that include one of the Junior Riders coming 3rd in the National 10 mile Time Trial Championships; having not raced prior to the start of the season. The race team focuses on more than just racing, and developing talent, recognising the need to provide events for riders; identifying a gap in races available for women; in April this year they hosted 2 road races, sponsored by Cinelli bicycles, Chicken Cyclekit, Tero Sports and Priests Ford.

WHAT’S A CYCLO-CROSSMAS? IN A NUTSHELL IT’S CYCLO-CROSS + CHRISTMAS MERGED Cyclocross is a hugely accessible form of bike racing conducted off road around a predefined circuit. 90% of the course must be rideable, it is allowed and encouraged to have a number of challenging obstacles that force the competitor to get off of the bike and then remount. They are accessible from under 8s right through to Veterans, and at a Central Cyclocross league event it is not uncommon to find families racing across the different categories. The aim of the Lovelo Cyclo-crossmas is to setup a Cyclocross race with the addition of a Christmas Fair. Think Santa hats, Reindeer, Christmas music, food, drink, mulled wine with cowbells ringing as competitor’s race past friends and family. Stalls with local businesses next to local community groups such as a cub troops tombola.

In Belgium Cyclocross is a national sport and treated in a similar fashion to football here in the UK. Cyclocross events draw huge crowds, stalls and stands and generate a great atmosphere.

WE’VE AN ABUNDANCE OF SKILL’S AND ENTHUSIASM WITHIN THE TEAM, HOWEVER WE NEED BUSINESSES, GROUPS, AND SCHOOLS, AMONGST OTHERS, TO GET INVOLVED TO MAKE THIS SPECTACULAR.
Ashlyns School has got behind us and are hosting the event within their grounds. There will be ample marshalled parking, access to the new Pump Track and at the centre of things we want to create a buzzing Christmas Village where local businesses can showcase themselves, make sales and provide services. Typically an average Cyclocross event will draw 400 competitors, and a popular event will draw 600+ (not including additional spectators ) This is the race alone, without a Christmas Village. Our Aim is to draw in local schools by running an inter school’s competition (and for Ashlyns school an inter-house one to) . We want to encourage participation into sport and activity, as well as helping the town grow. Cylcocross draws far and wide, with riders traveling from Cornwall and Scotland to participate, so we’ll also be getting people visiting Berkhamsted that have never visited before. Overall the predominate audience that attend these events and are involved in competitive cycling and come from all aspects of society. Typically they are 35 - 40 yr old men and women who love competing and have a disposable incomes to spend on high end bike gear... after all cycling is quoted as the ‘new golf’. Marketing for the event will be through traditional cycling media and social media platforms, as well local media channels, such as parents associations, local schools and community groups.

TIMETABLE OF EVENTS THE COURSE IS BETWEEN 1.5KM AND 3-KM AND WILL WIND AROUND THE GROUNDS. RACE DAY TIMETABLE WILL BE SUBJECT TO WEATHER AND LOCAL CONDITIONS AND THE COMMISSAIRES WILL HAVE THE FINAL SAY. THIS WILL FEATURE HEAVILY IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS, PRESS AND SOCIAL MEDIA PRODUCED POST EVENT; AS IT WILL BRIDGE THE ACCESS IN AND OUT OF THE SITE.
