New Year, New Opportunities

The beginning of the year here at the Salt Palace and Mountain America Expo truly opened a new chapter filled with exciting changes One being the announcement of our new General Manager, Josh Ambrose

Josh steps into this role after serving as our Director of Finance, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening our financial performance. Since joining the team, Josh has helped drive increased profitability, led system improvements that enhanced operational efficiency, and built strong, trusted relationships across teams As General Manager, Josh is focused on supporting our people, strengthening partnerships, and guiding the next chapter of growth for both venues.

We are also excited to share that Bart Allen will continue in his role as Assistant General Manager, transitioning into a more leadership-focused capacity. Bart will shift from a primarily operations-driven role to one centered on leadership development and team support, further strengthening our organization Josh and Bart will navigate the leadership of both venues together in an aligned partnership. Their collaborative approach reflects a shared commitment to operational excellence, team development, and the long-term success of

the Salt Palace Convention Center and Mountain America Expo Center Both leaders look forward to working side-by-side to advance the venues' mission within the community

Additionally, Devon Shaughnessy was promoted to Director of Finance, stepping into this position following Josh Ambrose’s promotion to General Manager. Devon joined the team as Finance Manager in February 2025, focusing on improving financial visibility, internal controls, and alignment across departments He is excited for this opportunity to build on the strong foundation already in place and help guide the next phase of growth. As these two venues play a major role in Salt Lake County's economy, being part of the leadership team responsible for their financial strength and long-term success is

both energizing and meaningful to Devon. He is particularly excited about using technology and improved processes to modernize how the venues manage finances and continue delivering exceptional operations.

Olympic Insights from Milan

As the Salt Palace Convention Center prepares for

our role in supporting the 2034 Utah Olympic &

Paralympic Winter Games, our new Director of

Events, Courtney Strong, recently traveled to Milan

as part of the Milano Cortina 2026 Observers

Programme, alongside other representatives from the upcoming Olympic Games.

The experience offered valuable insight into the

scale and complexity of hosting the Olympic

Games, including operations across multiple

cities and competition areas. As we plan to house the Main Media Center and International

Broadcast Center in 2034, Courtney’s visit highlighted key considerations around venue flow, operational separation, media trends, and extended hours of use over several months

The Diversity Community & Culture Committee (DCC) is an employee-led group focused on fostering connection, awareness, and employee engagement across our teams and venues

Alex Mohrman educated us on the Haitian Revolution and its lasting global significance.

The afternoon was made even more special with delicious food provided by our team members Randy, Alex, and Amanda, along with additional catering from Miss Essie’s Southern BBQ

Black History Playlist

In addition to learning through storytelling and discussion, employees connected through culture and creativity by building a shared music playlist and exchanging movie recommendations centered on Black history and Black voices.

Women’s History Month

For the month of March, we celebrated Women’s History Month by honoring the women across our organization and throughout history. The month was filled with opportunities to learn, connect, and celebrate women-centered leadership and impact

Team members Teri Cowburn and Maribel Avila led an engaging presentation that explored women’s history, notable leaders, and the women’s suffrage movement. During the presentation, employees enjoyed handcrafted bagels from Cheryl’s Bagels, a local woman-owned business, and made pipecleaner flowers to gift to a woman in our lives

Employees attended the South Valley Chamber Women in Business Luncheon, where keynote

speaker Kaitlin Eskelson shared insights on the importance of creating unforgettable, humancentered experiences in business. To highlight the incredible women within o

2026 UVU Kirk Englehardt Business Ethics Award

The Salt Palace Convention Center was honored to receive the 2026 UVU Kirk Englehardt Business Ethics Award from the Utah Valley University Center for the Study of Ethics. This award is among the longest-running business ethics designations in the country. We are proud to be the first organization, rather than an individual, to be recognized for our efforts in ethical practices

Along with accepting the award with a speech, our Sustainable Events Coordinator, McKell Nelson, also presented to a business ethics class McKell shared information about our Landfill

Diversion Program, and how sustainability and ethics are deeply connected in the work we do every day. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our entire team, putting sustainability and ethics at the forefront of our operations.
