Dear Members,
I am honored to be serving as the Interim General Manager at Sparrows Point. In my 20+ years with Indigo Sports/Troon I have extensive experience working with private clubs as both a General Manager and a Regional Director of Operations.
My role over the coming weeks will be to assume the General Manager responsibilities while working with the team and you, our valued members, to identify the opportunities for improving everyone’s experience at the Club. In the coming weeks, I plan to spend my time getting to know our staff, understanding our operations, and, most importantly, meeting as many of you as possible. I want to hear your thoughts and ideas and get a better sense of what makes our club so special to you. Please feel free to stop me and say hello if you see me around the clubhouse or stop by the office upstairs. I will also host Coffee with the Interim GM on Friday mornings at 9:00 a.m. during my tenure here, where we can discuss whatever is on your mind.
Troon is working diligently on the search for a permanent leader. In the meantime, I am confident that our team will continue to provide the memorable experiences you have come to expect from your club.
If you would like to contact me, you may call the office at 410-477-0220, extension 9, or send me an email at mwesolek@spcc1925.com. I am enthusiastic about the future and look forward to meeting many of you in the coming weeks.
Best Regards,
Mark Wesolek

COFFEE WITH THE INTERIM GM FRIDAY MORNINGS AT 9:00 A.M.

SPCC has switched to the JONAS program, and it has been an adjustment for everyone. This means that Clubessentials is officially gone as of October 1. We will help instruct you on the next steps on how to log in to check statements, make payments, and create tee times. Please be patient, as we are learning this new program as well.
With the NEW Jonas system, there will be a NEW payment deadline on statements. Please mark your calendars that all account payments will be due on the 20 instead of the 25 . This means that any payments received after the due date will automatically receive a late fee + finance charge.
• Cancellations or changes to Club Events must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
• Late cancellations or changes may incur fees.
• Taxes and service charges will be added to the listed price. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Erin Erb Membership Director

Thank you for making the SPCC Centennial Celebration ALL that it was!

Dear SPCC Golfers,
Fall is officially here, and so is October. The 2025 Ryder Cup just completed a memorable Tournament, and the Ravens’ quest for their next Super Bowl title has begun. We still have some great golfing weather upon us this month, so get out to the Club. Brian and his GCM Team have been working tirelessly to help the golf course recover from our oppressive heat during the Summer.
We had a busy September of golf tournaments, fitting days, and private golf outings. We have crowned our 2025 SPCC Stroke-Play Champion s, plus hosted our Senior Men’s, Women’s, and MGA 2025 Invitational Tournaments . Our 2025 SPCC Member-Member Tournament is this first weekend of October on the 4 & 5 . If you’re reading this and you haven’t registered yet, grab a partner and register TODAY! Our 2025 Founder’s Cup Matches are into their sixth and final month of competition. Who will be our 2025 SPCC Founder’s Cup Champion? thth
We are into our first full month with our new Club Website. We will help you acclimate to enjoying its new features, plus Starting Time and Tournament Registration access. You can always register for Tournaments/Events in person and/or by calling the Golf Shop.
Please be careful when driving our new Golf Cart Fleet on the golf course when near tree stumps, cart path curbs, and/or any bulge on the ground. Our new Golf Cart Fleet rides lower to the ground, so it’s a lot easier to bottom out and tear off our Fleet’s skid plates from underneath the Golf Cart. When our Practice Range is on our Grass Tee-Deck as well as when using our ShortGame Area, please use the USGA/GCSA-recommended divot patterns to help maximize turf growth, plus efficient regeneration of our warm-weather grasses. If you have any questions, please inquire with the Golf Professional Staff.

Pace-of-Play during busy/peak times is going to be monitored more closely, especially on weekend mornings and afternoons. The maximum time for a Four-ball Group is 4 hrs & 15 mins. Any Groups that fall behind pace (more than one Hole open in front of you) will be asked to immediately pick up their pace and close the gap within three Holes or will be asked to either move to their pace location behind the Group in front of them or let Groups play through them without delay. Post your Scores!! When playing in an attested Group, you are responsible for posting your Scores. If you don’t post your Score after receiving the Club’s Cap Patrol Score-posting reminder, the SPCC Golf Handicap Committee will post a Score of Par for those nonposted Scores.

Given the “ 12 Seasons of Maryland Weather ”, this month looks to be the last full month of consistent weather at the Club. Come play, practice, and/or soak up this month’s weather, plus admire the changing colors of the leaves. Enjoy your October at SPCC!

The recent drop in temperatures has been working in our favor, and we’re seeing significant recovery on the greens. Larger damaged areas have been patched using sod from short course #2, and we’ve begun to overseed the entire green for next season. Bentgrass seed takes a while to germinate and establish, and on a positive note, we already have germination on the chipping greenbythedrivingrange.
To allow for full recovery of both greens, they will be closed, and short course #3 will serve as a designated chipping area for the remainder of the season. In addition to the sod work, we’ve also seeded the smaller thin areas and are expected to fill in by the end of the season, making sure it is healthy and ready forwinterandnextspring.

This is one of my oldest recipes that I still use. It was handed down to me from the late Certified Master Chef CMC Jack Schoop, one of only 69 CMCs in the United States.
[CONFIT: The word comes from the French verb confire, meaning “to preserve.”]
While originally a method to preserve foods like duck legs, the term is used for vegetables cooked similarly in oil or fat. The traditional French method of slowly cooking food, typically meat, in fat at a low temperature for a long period, originally for preservation and now for creating tender, flavorful, and succulent dishes. It can be used on a Jerked or Blackened fish or chicken sandwich; it neutralizes the spiciness of the protein. Use it to off pates it pairs well. Confit is very similar to relish or marmalade.

3 onions, red, julienne 8 oz butter, unsalted 1 cup sugar, granulated ¾ cup red wine vinegar 1 cup red wine vinegar salt and pepper to taste
Add all ingredients except the onion to a thick-bottom pot, bring to a slow boil, add the onion, cover the pot, and lower the burner so the ingredients come to a low simmer. Continue cooking until onions have a glazed look to them. Let cool and place into a container. It will hold under refrigeration for a month.
