Marina News

As boating season approaches, please remember that SPCC offers full marina services to annual boat slip holders.

If you're interested in docking your boat regularly at the Club or would like details on transient docking (available for a daily fee), contact Erin Erb in the Membership Office.

If you plan to arrive by boat to enjoy the Club for a few hours or a full day, it's important to notify us in advance and provide your contact info. This helps us protect annual slip agreements and manage liability.

As SPCC continues to grow, marina activity will be monitored regularly. Slips are available for the 2025 season, each equipped with electricity, Wi-fi, water, ice, and private restrooms.

For all marina inquiries, pricing, and details, please reach out to Erin Erb in the Membership Office, eerb@spcc1925.com.

Agronomy

Hopefully, with the start of some warmer weather, we are done with the long winter that kept hanging around! With the warmer temperatures, there is a lot going on out on the course with the maintenance team. The irrigation system is moving along, bunkers have been repaired and maintained more consistently, grass is greening up, and we're finally getting the leaves cleaned up from fall and winter. Along with regular maintenance picking up, we've also been able to mow or roll greens most days in March, weather permitting. Our first spray was applied to help with growth regulation, the first fungicide application, and a little fertilizer to start pushing roots for summer. Now is the best time to prepare the turf for the challenges of our hot, humid summer by pushing roots early and using natural defenses along with supplementalinputstogetthroughtheyear.

The irrigation company is making great progress on the new system. Hole 17 is about 90% complete, and finishing it will keep the rest of the operation moving, as we are working from the pumphouse out to 17 and across the 18 bridge. New irrigation heads, isolation shutoff valves, pipe, wire, and quick couplers will be installed hole by hole. Hole 17 is nearly complete and waiting on a few final connections. The importance of this installation can't be overstated, and we truly appreciate everyone's patience. I understand there are occasional hole closures, but it will be wellworthitwhencompleted!

With golf course maintenance getting back into the swing of things and the irrigation project going smoothly, we have also been able to take on some other projects. A new parking area for the driving range has been installed to keep the path open and provide a better spot than grass or mud to park on. New planters have been installed in the parking lot, and mulch is being placed in the flower beds around the clubhouse and throughout the course. Tree work will be ongoing, as several dead trees need to be removed, along with others in certain areas that must be cleared to aid in the health of the turf.

From the Golf Shop

The month of the Masters is here! April has arrived, and golf activity at the Club is picking up. We had a slow start to the first quarter of 2025, but warmer temperatures over the last three weeks have helped. The course is greening up daily as ground temperatures rise. Are you enjoying our “speedy” greens?

By Student Name, Year Level

We played the March 8th Par 3 Challenge (all 22 holes) in windy conditions, making it feel like our February Ice Bowl Scramble. Due to its success, we’ll schedule another Par 3 Challenge in May or early June, hoping for warmer weather and calmer winds. Stay tuned for details!

Our 2025 SPCC Opening Day Four-Player Scramble is April 5th, officially kicking off the Tournament Season. This event is also the first qualifier for the 2025 SPCC Centennial Cup Series. Play in as many of the 15 qualifying events as you can to be part of this exciting new series.

The 2025 Active MSGA Score-Posting Season began March 15th for local play. During the irrigation project, 1-2 holes may be closed at times. When this happens, play 16-17 holes on the Championship Course, then complete your round on the 4-hole Loop. For MSGA scoreposting, members should enter hole-by-hole scores only for the holes played. The USGA/WHS system will automatically calculate an expected 18-hole differential. If you have questions, see a Golf Professional.

We’re excited to see how the irrigation project enhances course health and playability through the warmer months. Once completed, course conditions will improve in quality and consistency. Our team will provide updates and communicate any routing changes throughout April and May.

Registration is now open for the 2025 SPCC Summer Junior Golf Camps, and spots are filling fast! We’ve planned six weeks of summer fun, golf, and swimming. Summer will be here before you know it, so register your junior golfer today. The 2025 Spring Learning on the Loop Clinic, which began last month, runs through early May—an excellent way to shake off the rust and refine your fundamentals for the season.

The 2025 SPCC Golf Information “Blue Book” is available in the Golf Shop and Clubhouse. Pick up your copy next time you’re at the Club!

We will have 8 a.m. starting times on weekdays (except Mondays) this month, weather and course conditions permitting. Weekend starting times will begin at 7 a.m. Our tee sheets are updated to reflect April golf access times online. As always, we will monitor weather conditions and communicate any course access updates each morning and throughout the day.

This is our Centennial Year at the Club! We have some exciting new golf ball logos and other SPCC Centennial branding on the way. We look forward to a great year of golf and memories. This will be a new and exciting chapter in our Club’s history—be a part of it by participating in as many golf tournaments and events as you can.

By Student Name, Year Level

Set (or reset!) your 2025 golf goals and start working toward them—we’re here to help. Spring has begun, and the Masters is just around the corner. Enjoy the tournament next week!

Happy warm weather, everyone!

Thank you to all who showed up for the Guilford Brewery cocktail class. It was a lot of fun, and the two beers everyone voted on to bring in are the Guilford Lager & Czech Ruby. Once the weather gets a bit warmer, by demand of the class, we will be bringing in their Salt & Sea Sour. All three tied in the vote for what everyone liked best. Next month's cocktail class will be Rum! Come see what cocktails we can make with different kinds of Rum. It's been great to start seeing you all coming back in now that it's warmer out!
