SPCC HOUSE CHARGE
We've recently received several questions about the 20% House Charge that is added to all Food & Beverage tickets. This charge is not new and has been a long-standing practice at the Club. It's important to note that this is not a tip or gratuity. Like many private clubs, we use this additional charge to provide our service staff with a consistent and fair wage throughout the year Due to the seasonal nature of country club operations, this structure allows us to retain a talented and reliable Front of House Team even during slower periods. Unlike traditional restaurants where servers often earn as little as $2.50–$3.00 per hour before tips, our team members are paid significantly more to reflect the unique demands of club service
While additional gratuities are never required, you are welcome to add one at your discretion if you feel your server has provided exceptional service Any extra tip you include goes directly to that individual server and is not shared with the broader service team.
In closing, I would like to thank all of you who continue to support and promote the Club to family, friends and co-workers. It is our biggest opportunity for membership growth and member engagement.
With gratitude,
Michael S. Troyner, CCM General Manager

From the Golf Shop
The calendar turns to May! The Masters is in our rearview mirror. Our Golf Course and Practice Facilities are just about healed from the Spring Maintenance & Aeration Project ... THE 2025 GOLF SEASON IS HERE!
Speaking of the 2025 Masters Tournament, what a rollercoaster of a Final Round for Rory McIlroy! He courageously stared down his Augusta National GC demons to win his Green Jacket, plus becoming the 6th PGA TOUR Golfer to have won the “Grand Slam” of Majors I got to walk the hallowed grounds at Augusta National GC on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday of the Tournament week It’s such a special place I know most of you have “attend The Masters Tournament” on your Golf Bucket List – go as soon as you can, it’s all worth it!
GOLF AT THE CLUB: Our 2025 SPCC Opening Day Four-Player Scramble was on April 5th, which officially kicked off the 2025 Tournament Season at the Club. This Opening Day Scramble is the 1st Qualifier Event for the NEW 2025 SPCC Centennial Cup Series Our MGA’s April 27th Game was our 2nd Event of this new Tournament Series. We have 13 more to participate in via the Men’s Open Division, Women’s Open Division, and Senior Men’s Division Be a part of this new Tournament Series by playing in as many as 15 CC Qualifying Events you can.
MSGA: We started the Active MSGA Score-Posting Season on March 15th for local play. During the Irrigation Project, we will have 1-2 holes closed during play. When we do, please play those 16-17 holes on our Championship Course, then head over to the 4-hole Loop to complete your 18. Play a couple of extra Holes while you’re at it! For MSGA Score-Posting, when we have holes that are closed on our Championship Course, Members need to post their hole-by-hole scores per the USGA/WHS only on those holes played. The USGA/WHS System will automatically calculate an 18-hole differential/expected differential for that Round. If you have any questions about this, please see one of the Golf Professional Staff.
COURSE UPDATE: The Golf Course Irrigation Project is almost completed. We’re excited to see this Project help our golf course continue to grow and be as healthy as possible throughout the warmer periods of the year We will be seeing an improvement in the quality plus consistency of the course conditions after this project is completed. Be on the lookout for continued updates from our Maintenance Crew and Management Team We will continue to announce any golf course routing interruptions, etc., as the Irrigation Project finishes this month.
JUNIOR CAMP: Our SPCC Summer Junior Golf Camps are still open for registration and are beginning to fill up quickly. We’ve planned six weeks of summer fun, golf, and swimming with these Camp Weeks in June and July. Summer is almost here - Register your Junior Golfer today!
LEANING ON THE LOOP: Our Spring Learning on the Loop Clinic Series continues into early May. This Clinic Series is an excellent way to get the rust off your game/swing plus pinpointing specific fundamentals and techniques to start your Golf Season strong Rob Moore’s “Master Your Game” Clinic Series begins the first week of May and runs for six weeks working on some key disciplines of your Game Stop in the Pro Shop for more details

Agronomy
A successful spring aerification is in the books, and we’re ready for play! As usual, we could count on our weather being unreliable over an inch and a half of rain a couple of days before aerification forced us to adjust our plan. Typically, we pull plugs and add sand to the greens to fill the holes. However, because the soil was so saturated, the cores wouldn’t pull cleanly from the greens. Instead, we switched to deep tine aeration and completed two passes
The difference with deep tine aeration is right in the name we punch down over six inches to break up compacted soil layers that reduce water filtration and root growth over time. While it’s a slower process (about half an hour per green), it’s very beneficial to the older push-up greens we have, and it’s less disruptive to play. We also verticut the greens in two directions to remove organic matter from the top layer, providing channels for sand to settle in and improving ball roll and firmness. Despite the weather challenges, aerification turned out to be a success.
As many of you have noticed, there’s a variety of turfgrasses across the fairways and tees. This is where the weather has actually worked in our favor. Coming out of dormancy, bermudagrass usually stays patchy into June. Thanks to the early warmth, it’s greening up faster this year, and those clumpy areas will fill in sooner, leading to better lies. Long-term, we plan to update the fairways and tees with one consistent turf variety.
Short-term, we’ll continue fall overseeding to minim and appearance Course cleanup has also been a pr Tree work around the clubhouse and pool has opened up key areas, improving turf health and allowing for more sun and airflow.
We’ll continue with strategic tree removal and trimming starting with dead trees and then focusing on limbing and canopy thinning to enhance turf health and playability. We’re also trimming shrubs and grasses along the creek edges to freshen up those areas.
Thanks for your support — and we’ll see you out on the course!

Dan Benedix Executive Chef
Chef’s Treat of the Month Cherry-Chocolate Crème Brulee
Ingredients
3 ounces bittersweet chocolate, finely chopped
3 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
8 large egg yolks
3/4 cups of sugar
3 cups of heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
One 16-ounce jar sour cherries in light syrup, drained and patted dry
Instructions / Preparation
Place bittersweet and semisweet chocolates in a medium bowl and rest a fine-mesh sieve on top. 1.
2.
3.
In a large bowl, whisk egg yolks with 1/4 cup sugar until light yellow, about 3 minutes.
In a medium pan, bring cream to a boil, then remove from heat. Slowly whisk one-third of the hot cream into the egg yolks. Whisk the tempered yolks into the remaining cream and cook over medium-low heat, whisking gently without boiling. Once thickened and coating the back of a spoon, immediately pour through the sieve over the chocolate. Stir until smooth, then add vanilla.
4.
5.

Divide cherries among six 8-oz ramekins. Pour chocolate custard over cherries and let cool to room temp. Refrigerate until firm, about 4 hours.
Preheat broiler. Place ramekins on a baking sheet and sprinkle remaining 1/2 cup sugar on top. Broil about 4 inches from heat until sugar is golden and caramelized, or use a kitchen torch. Serve immediately.
Special & Private Events
Prom season is in full swing here at the Club, and our calendar is packed with junior and senior celebrations! It’s been a joy to see each class showcase their unique theme, but one that’s truly dazzled us is a Great Gatsby-inspired night, complete with a signature mocktail

Want to recreate it at home? Here’s the recipe: The Green Eye Mocktail
