General Manager
Dear Members, As I reflect on my first month as General Manager of Sparrows Point Country Club, I want to share how truly exciting and rewarding this experience has already been. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of you, and I am incredibly grateful for the warm welcome from both our membership and our dedicated team. The sense of community here is special, and it’s clear that Sparrows Point is more than just a Club - it’s a place where lasting connections are made.
Looking ahead, 2026 is shaping up to be a year of tremendous opportunity and growth for our Club. We are committed to enhancing the member experience across every touchpoint, and I am energized by what lies ahead. From golf and dining to social events and family programming, there is a great deal to look forward to this season.
I encourage you to join me for “Cookies & Conversation” every Friday at 11 a.m. in the Trophy Room. This is a great opportunity for us to connect in a casual setting. Please be sure to register in advance. I value your feedback and look forward to hearing your ideas as we continue to shape the future of the Club together.
Opening Weekend is right around the corner, and with it leads into a packed season of events that I know many of you are eager to enjoy. Our golf team has been hard at work preparing for the season, and I want to recognize Superintendent Brian Dearstine and the Grounds team for the outstanding effort they are putting into getting the course in exceptional condition, as well as his leadership in the Club's ongoing improvements. You’ll see the results of that dedication as the season gets underway.
We also have several exciting social events on the horizon - please be sure to check out the Event Calendar through the MembersFirst portal and make your reservations soon. Also, be sure to stop by our Cove Resident Open House on April 9th, where you’ll have the chance to meet and connect with our neighboring Cove residential members.

Additionally, I strong s and family, for the PGA Junior League. r the game in a fun and supportive environment led by our PGA Professionals.
Thank you again for the warm welcome and for being part of what makes Sparrows Point Country Club so special. I look forward to continuing to meet more of you and to an incredible season ahead.
Warm regards,
Corey Andrews General Manager | candrews@spcc1925.com

Our typical Maryland spring weather has returned in full force! After a handful of warm days mixed in with the usual cold, we even saw thunderstorms followed by a March snow. Projects that were temporarily put on hold due to the snow have also been slow to resume because of the extremely wet conditions that followed. Despite the challenging weather, we have been able to mow and roll the greens as often as conditions allow, and we are beginning to see some growth as we head toward April and our aerification week.
Spring aerification is scheduled for April 13 through the 15 . This year, we will be using halfinch hollow tines, which will create slightly larger holes than usual. This will allow us to incorporate more sand into the soil profile. Because our greens are still native soil, the additional sand will help improve water infiltration, allowing water to move through the greens more quickly. This will help create a firmer playing surface while also preventing the turf from sitting in excess water, something we experienced during last summer’s heavy rainfall.
Tees and fairways will also be aerified, although not as aggressively. Sand topdressing will be applied to the tees to help continue improving surface level and firmness.
We will also be addressing several weak areas in the rough that were disturbed during the irrigation installation. In addition, areas such as the rough on #6 by the green, which were previously shaded by trees, will now have a better opportunity to establish themselves with the increased sunlight after tree removal. In these locations, the compacted soil will be rototilled, leveled, and seeded to encourage stronger turf growth and playable lies.
Looking forward to the warmer weather and consistent growing and golfing conditions!!

As many of you may know, my time here is ending, and I wanted to take a moment to say thank you.
Being part of this team has truly meant so much to me. From busy brunches and special events to the everyday moments that make this place unique, I’ve been grateful for the opportunity to grow and learn.
To our members - thank you for your continued support and for making this such a fun and enjoyable place to work. It’s truly made my time here all the more special.
I’m excited to be starting a new chapter with TROON in North Carolina, where I’ll continue to grow in this industry and take on new challenges. While I’m looking forward to what’s ahead, I will truly miss being part of this community.
Thank you again for everything - it’s been a pleasure serving you.
Sincerely, Sue Taylor
