Elizabeth A. Dennis Langdell Scholar Award This endowed scholarship was established in 2007 by L. Steve Young ,93 to honor Assistant Dean Elizabeth A. Dennis ,84, who in 1989 established the Langdell Scholars Program, and to commemorate the positive experience he received while participating as a tutor in the Langdell Scholars Program under Dennis’ supervision in the early 1990s. Dickerson-Moore Humanitarian Award Named in honor of the mother and brother of Professor Shelby A.D. Lyndon B. Johnson Civil Rights Award This award, established in 1998 by Beth Sufian and James A. Passamano ,90, is presented each year, along with a bust of LBJ, to the student who has demonstrated academic achievement and an individual commitment to civil rights under law. Aaron J. Lira
Dean’s Citizenship Award The Rockwell Fund, Inc. established this award in 1974 in honor of Joe M. Green, Jr., ,38, a former trustee of the college. Susan Scoble Scholarship Award This award was established in 2011 by Arijit “Sonny” Banerjee ,09 and other members of the Fred Parks Law Library staff in memory of Patron Services Librarian Susan Scoble. As the “library mom” to numerous students employed in the library’s Patron Services Department, Susan played a significant role in their personal development. The award is presented to a student who has worked in the work-study program and has engaged in volunteer activities at organizations that were of importance to Susan. Tyler Ciavarra

Honorable Michael H. Schneider, Jr., Animal Law Society Award The Honorable Michael H. Schneider, Jr. Animal Law Society Scholarship is awarded each year to up to two deserving students who have demonstrated an interest in animal law, animal welfare, or animal rights. This scholarship was established by Judge Michael H. Schneider, Jr., a 1997 graduate of South Texas College of Law. Judge Schneider was appointed to the 315th District Court in Harris County in 2006 by Governor Rick Perry and has served as a commissioner to the Texas Supreme Court Children’s Commission since 2015. He retired from the bench in 2019 and is now a partner with Berg Plummer Johnson & Raval LLP and an Adjunct Associate Research Scientist at Columbia University. Olivia Ekeke 6
Ryan Euan ,11 Memorial Award This award was established in 2012 by the family and friends of Ryan Euan ,11 in memory of his brief but full life. It is awarded annually to a graduating student who, in the opinion of the Dean and faculty, exhibits the qualities of intellect, enthusiasm, and compassion that Ryan demonstrated and who has the personality and character necessary to maintain a balance of work and family life while becoming an outstanding attorney. The Kenesha L. Starling Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2020 by Kenesha L. Starling, ’20, in honor of her family, close friends, and mentors whose support enabled her pursuit of a second career in the practice of law. Their unwavering support, compassion, and words of encouragement empowered her to become the first African American Editor in Chief of the South Texas Law Review and graduate with the highest honors. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Kenesha was selected for coveted internships and clerkships with the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and prestigious Houston law firms, all while raising her teenage son and maintaining a fulltime career. GHBER Bette Stead Ethics Scholarship The Greater Houston Business Ethics Roundtable (GHBER) is a voluntary professional organization dedicated to promoting ethical business practices. PRO BONO HONORS CERTIFICATES The Pro Bono Honors Program is a school-administered voluntary program which serves as the clearinghouse for students’ pro bono opportunities. Interested students are eligible to participate after completing the first 15 hours of law school study. Students are placed with a wide variety of local area service providers, many of whom also participate in the law school’s Academic Internship Program. TRANSACTIONAL LAW PRACTICE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM To earn the Transactional Law Practice Certificate, students must complete three required business law courses (Agency & Partnership, Corporations, and Secured Transactions) and three additional elective business law courses. In addition, they must take one foundational skills course and one specialized transactional skills course (Corporate, Energy Finance, International Business, Oil & Gas, or Real Estate), and they must complete a substantial writing project on a topic related to transactional or business law practice. Certificate students also must achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.333 in all certificate-related courses and an overall law school GPA of 3.000.
