There isn’t just one way to become an architect in Washington State. SPSCC’s collaboration with KMB Architects offers a unique pathway to a career in a design firm in Washington State after completing SPSCC’s Computer Aided Drafting/Building Information Modeling (CAD/BIM) program. SPSCC alumna Elizabeth Glenn has worked her way from production to project management and is currently in the final phases of testing to become a fully licensed architect. Glenn is one of several SPSCC graduates on their way to a successful career in architecture. How Elizabeth Sailed and Prevailed · 2003 - Began CAD studies at SPSCC (BIM not available at the time) · 2004 - Started internship with KMB Architects · 2004 - Completed Certificate of Architectural Drafting · 2 005-2013 - Full time employment at KMB while fulfilling internship requirements of the National Council of Architectural Registration Board · 2014-present - Undergoing Architecture Registration Exams The standard pathway to architecture includes earning a bachelor and master’s degree, completing an apprenticeship, and passing required exams to become a fully licensed architect. Alternatively, students can start by earning a CAD/BIM associate degree and securing employment that allows them to fulfill the internship requirements of the National Council of Architectural Registration Board.

For several years, KMB has partnered with SPSCC’s CAD/BIM program by hiring student interns and mentoring them to become productive team members in design, project management, and licensed architects. CAD/BIM program graduates can find employment in architecture, engineering, design, manufacturing, construction, and a wide variety of government agencies. Apply online or in person at the One Stop desk in Building 22, Olympia Campus or in Building 1, Lacey Campus. There is no application fee.
3. DETERMINE FUNDING
Activate your new student email and log in to the college network. Check it daily for important messages from the College.
4. ASSESS YOUR SKILLS
Fill out the FAFSA to apply for financial aid and scholarships. Then visit the Financial Aid Portal to ensure your financial aid application is complete.
Take the College Placement Test or submit your high school or college transcripts. Attend an optional free Test Prep Workshop before the test.
5. ATTEND ADVISING & REGISTRATION (NSAR) Sign up for NSAR 3-4 weeks before new student registration. Sign up ASAP to get an early shot at registering for the classes you want.

FAFSA FIRST The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first and most important step toward affording college. The FAFSA is the base of the financial awards, grants, and loans you can receive. Complete the application at fafsa.gov starting Oct. 1 for the following school year. List SPSCC as your school: School Code 005372.
CHECK FINANCIAL AID PORTAL Be sure that you’ve provided everything necessary to process financial aid. Visit your Financial Aid Portal to find out if anything else is needed from you. spscc.edu/financial-aid
WATCH DEADLINES Completed financial aid applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Submit applications by the deadlines to be notified of your financial aid eligibility before tuition is due. Apply early and check on your status at the Financial Aid Portal.

spscc.edu/apply/runningstart Tens of thousands of high school juniors and seniors around the state are taking college classes during high school. So, what is the big deal about Running Start? Money. Families are saving $8,000 or more when earning an associate degree. Tuition is free and fee and book waivers are available to qualified students. Time. Students seeking a bachelor’s degree can graduate high school and SPSCC at the same time with only two years remaining at a university. Job-focused students are entering living-wage jobs immediately after high school graduation. Independence. Students enjoy handling their own schedule and feel more in charge of their lives—and 81% of students are passing their classes.
SPSCC is seeking families of all types to host our outstanding international students. Weekend, quarter-long, and yearlong opportunities make hosting possible for all families. There is no such thing as a "typical" homestay family. SPSCC’s Dental Assisting Technology program is now accepting applications for a Summer Quarter 2018 start. Apply before April 1. Only 36 spots are available in this hands-on two-year program! Dental Assisting is a stable, growing, and rewarding career. Our graduates are often hired by Olympia area dental clinics before they even graduate. Most enjoy an 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. schedule and are earning $16 to $18 immediately after graduation.

Professor Kip Fulbeck is a pioneering artist, spoken word performer, and filmmaker. Recipient of the UCSB Distinguished Teaching Award, he is also the author of several books. Fulbeck created The Hapa Project which was awarded the inaugural Loving Prize at the Mixed Roots Film and Literary Festival. Fulbeck holds a powerful message for people who identify as multiracial.
